August 11, 1976 - Unveiling of WASPuniforms.
WASPMEMORIALS,INC., a texas corpora-tion, was formed in order to locate thefamilies of the 38 WASPswhodied in
service and to raise funds for the beau-tiful plaque to commemoratetheir servicemadeby Jewel Estes. This plaque was
given to the University of Texas, Historyof A.vi.ationCollection in 1975 at a verytouching ceremony. Wedo not knowthecomplete history of this project sinceit was done prior to the start of theterms of the present officers. The Trus-tees whoformed the corporation were:
George Haddaway(President)
Betty Jane Buehner (Secy./Treas.)Charles E. SimonsWinnie Davis WackwitzRuth Wheeler
It was through the diligent efforts of Betty Jane Buehner that WASPMemorials,Inc. have received their tax exempt sta-tus. They have elected to turn thiscorporation over to the Order of Fifin-ella and our Memorial Committeewillcarry on the work they started. Thelegal details of this are being handled by Virginia Hash. At this time we wantto publicly thank the 'lrustees and allthose whoworked &0 diligently to startthis mammothproject. Weknowthat JewelEstes contributed her time and talent inthe making of the plaque which we, whohave seen it, so admire and love. ZiggyHunter also did a great deal to make thismemorial possible. Wewholeheartedlythank each and everyone of these peopleand hope to carry on the work they soably began allover the country.
