Spring Heifer Validation
I am sure everyone is aware of the requirements set forth by the Major Shows that all heifers exhibited at both
Spring and Fall Majors must be validated in the Texas Heifer Validation system. There will be a Spring Heifer
Validation process for those heifers who have yet to be validated. Please remember that a heifer only has to be
validated once in her show career. The only exception to this is if there is a change in ownership, or the exhibi-
tor wishes to register the heifer under a different breed.
Exactly like in the fall, there will be two stages to the validation process, the first is the uploading of a digital
copy of the ORIGINAL REGISTRATION PAPERS into the database. Please begin emailing digital colored scans of
the heifer’s original registration papers to Stephanie Rudolph ([email protected]) as soon as
possible. The ownership deadline on the registration papers must reflect a date before June 30th. The scanned
image of the registration paper MUST match the color of the original registration paper. No cell phone pictures
of the registration paper will be allowed. Please do not wait until the last minute to work with your breeder
and the breed association to receive the paperwork. We have to have the registration paperwork uploaded
into the database before June 30th, so the sooner we can get your paperwork, the smoother the process will
be.
The second stage of the Heifer Validation process is the physical validation. The physical validation is where we
will check to make sure that tattoos and brands match the registration paper, as well as pull hair for DNA. The
physical Validation will take place on June 25th in Barn 2 of the Fairgrounds. As always, if you have any
questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at the Extension Office.

2015 Washington County 4-H Fair Queen Candidates
It is time to start thinking about who will represent the Washington County 4-H as our Fair Queen Candidates
for the 2015 Washington County Fair. The Fair Queen selection process is outlined in our 4-H Family Handbook
and it reads:
4-H FAIR QUEEN CANDIDATE SELECTION
According to fair rules, Washington County 4-H will have two queen candidates as long as our total enrollment is 300 members or more. Interested candidates should consult the Washington County Fair queen candidate guidelines available from the Fair Office to make sure they meet all of the qualifications. Active 4-H members who wish to be considered as a candidate for Washington County Fair Queen should let their 4-H Club Manager know during their March 4-H Club meeting. If a club has more than one interested candidate, the 4-H Club membership should vote to select one candidate for the club. 4-H Club managers should notify the Extension office after their March meeting if any candidates are selected from their club. In the event that two candidates are interested from the same 4-H Club and no other 4-H Clubs in the county have candidates, then both candidates from the same club can be considered. If more than two clubs have interested candidates, then a special meeting of the County 4-H Council will be called in April to allow the 4-H Council members to vote to select the two candidates that will represent 4-H for Washington County Fair Queen. The vote will be by ballot of the 4-H Council members present at the special meeting. Each community 4-H club must provide at least two Senior-aged members to serve as delegates for the Fair Queen election. (Should a club only have one delegate to the Council, they may send another Senior member as their second). Each club gets a maximum of two votes for Fair Queen. In the event a club sends only one delegate to the Fair Queen election meeting, that club will only cast one vote. In the event that a club does not send any representatives to the Fair Queen election meeting, that club will not be able to cast a vote. Once selected as a 4-H Fair Queen Candidate, candidates will work with the Extension office and the Washington County Fair office to complete the necessary application forms by May 1.
Each club may nominate one young lady as their potential candidate. Nominations can be made by club managers emailing Charles or Nancy at the Extension Office and informing them of who their candidate is. Club managers, please also let us know the names of the two voting delegates from your club. The voting delegates can be your current council delegate and/or council officer. Only the named voting delegates from each club will get to vote.
The meeting to vote on our two Fair Queen Candidates will be held on April 21st at 6:00pm in the VIP Building at the Fair Grounds.
Each club must designate at least two Senior Aged delegates to serve as voting delegates. If a club sends one delegate, they can cast one vote. If no delegates from a club are present for the meeting, that club will not receive any votes.
Each candidate will give a short biography about themselves and why they should be selected to represent Washington County 4-H as a Fair Queen. The delegates will also have an opportunity to ask questions to each candidate.
Two separate votes will be taken, the first will include all potential candidates. The young lady who receives the most votes will be our Queen Candidate. The second vote will include all remaining young ladies, and the candidate that receives the most votes will be our second Queen Candidate.
Walk Across Texas
Walk Across Texas is an eight week program to encourage participants to become more active walking or exercising. At the end of the eight weeks, the goal is to have at least 830 miles (the distance across Texas). This is done by teams of 8 (1 team captain, and 7 other team mem-bers). This is a great opportunity for youth to get leadership by heading up a team and keeping with their team mileage.
Only the team captain needs to register online. I have attached the form for the team captain to fill out. There is also an individual registration form for all members including the team captain to fill out. If you have trouble getting the information filled out online at http://walkacrosstexas.tamu.edu, you may turn the forms in at the extension office and we will help fill it out. Once on the webpage you will go to register now. The team captain will enter in his/her information and then will enter in all the information for each team member.
The goal is to have all of your team members report their mileage for that week. At the end of each week, the team with all of their team member mileage entered in will be entered in-to weekly drawing for prizes. The entire team must have miles entered for that week. You may either enter the miles online or submit them to the office by the beginning of the next week.
At the end of the 8 weeks, whichever team has the most overall miles will be recognized in Au-gust at the annual Family Night Awards Banquet.
The Walk Across Texas Competition for 4H will begin on March 8, 2015 and will conclude on May 2.
