Our Tour

• On our tour of Washington, D.C. we will see 5 locations:• The Lincoln Memorial• The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall• The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool• The World War II Memorial• The Washington Monument

Before we go on the tour, however, let’s learn a little about each site we will be visiting!

The Lincoln Memorial

"IN THIS TEMPLE AS IN THE HEARTS OF THE PEOPLE FOR WHOM HE SAVED THE UNION THE MEMORY OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN IS ENSHRINED FOREVER." These are the words inscribed on The Lincoln Memorial. It is a statue to honor the 16th President of the United States. Abraham Lincoln served as United States President from March 1961 until his assassination in April of 1965.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall was dedicated on November 13, 1982 to the more than 58,000 men and women that died in the Vietnam War. The wall is maintained by volunteers from the 4/9 Infantry Manchu (Vietnam) Association. It is a very powerful memorial made of black granite.

The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool

• The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pools is the largest reflecting pool in Washington, D.C. It is located east of the Lincoln Memorial. Looking across The Reflecting Pool you can see the WWII Memorial and the Washington Monument. More than 24 million people visit The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool each year.

The WWII Memorial

• The WWII Memorial is a memorial to honor the 16 million men and women who served in World War II. It also represents the more than 400,000 soldiers who died in the war. It celebrates the spirit, commitment, and sacrifice of the men and women who fought in World War II.

The Washington Monument

• The Washington Monument was built to honor the first president of the United States, George Washington. You can tour the Washington Monument, including a 500 foot elevator lift to the observation deck. There is also a museum 490 feet up. You must purchase tickets to go on the elevator tour.
