Faculty Support
Successfully worked with the Provost’s office to create a retention package one
of our highest achieving faculty members who had been offered a position at one
of the country’s most prestigious music schools.
Submitted a nomination letter (one nomination allowed per College) for a
College of Music faculty member to receive one of the university’s highest
awards, the UNT’s President’s Excellence Award. The faculty member was
selected and will be recognized at UNT’s largest donor event in April, 2017.

Accreditation
Ensured College of Music compliance for re-accreditation with the Southern
Association of Schools and Colleges, the university’s accrediting body (2016)
Primary leader for the successful NASM re-accreditation process (2011). This
was a multi-year process that culminated in a 260-page written document (plus a
portfolio of supporting documentation) and an Optional Response.
Curricula
Created a dual-credit program with Arlington ISD, located between Dallas and
Fort Worth, for students in the top 20% of their class to take music courses for
credit.
Developed an at-risk program for the College of Music. This program identifies
students early in their program who show potential risk of academic decline or
dropout. It has been highly successful and has resulted into Freshmen-
Sophomore retention rates between 88-92%.
Supported new course development at UNT’s satellite campus in Frisco, TX
Worked with the Director of Undergraduate Studies to navigate changes in the
University Core and their impact on College of Music semester credit hour
generation. Currently working on development several new courses that will be
proposed for approval in the UNT Core.
Facilitated an agreement between UNT’s Health Science Center in Fort Worth
and the College of Music to allow a Doctor of Osteopath to provide free medical
treatments for students suffering from performance injuries
I have reshaped the College of Music’s enrollment through various changes in
advising procedures and prerequisites for Music Theory I. Student success in
these large-enrolled classes (150-200 students) has increased significantly as a
result of these changes.
Priddy Fellowship in Arts Leadership: This was a collaborative program
between the College of Music and the College of Visual Arts. Each year, five
graduate students in music and five graduate students in visual arts were accepted
to this highly competitive arts leadership program. I was involved in the final
meetings that led to the $2.2M gift from the Robert and Ruby Priddy Charitable
Trust. I was a member of the Priddy steering committee that developed this
program, which led to a Certificate in Arts Leadership.
Related Fields in Arts Leadership: I developed two related fields options for
graduate students in Performance and Composition. The 9-credit or 12-credit
related field includes course work in the College of Visual Arts and the College
of Music.
Additional Administrative Leadership Positions
Chair, UNT Academic Planning Council (2006 – 2009). Appointed by the Provost
The Academic Planning Council was created to oversee and implement the UNT Academic Plan,
which was approved by the University in 2004. The chair position was appointed by the Provost.
Membership of this committee includes three Deans, one Associate Dean, two Directors of
academic support programs, a member of the Faculty Senate Executive Committee, a member of
the Provost’s staff, a member of the Staff Council, and five at-large faculty members.

The Division of Music Education
The Division of Music Education is one of the largest in the United States, serving nearly 350 music
education majors seeking B.M., M.M., or Ph.D. degrees in Music Education. The Division serves as a
leader in music teacher preparation by offering innovative and cutting-edge programs designed to
accommodate traditional and non-traditional students seeking teacher certification. The Division offers
several outreach programs that serve both the community and pre-service teachers.

Improved communication and strengthened relationships with the other seven divisions in the
College of Music
International curricular initiative. Developed relationships with the Liszt Academy (Budapest)
and the Universität Mozarteum (Salzburg) that led to music education study abroad trips to study
at the Kodály Institute and the Orff Institute. Enrollments: 8 – 2007; 20 – 2008; 12 – 2009; 20 –
2010; 17 – 2011.
Founder of Music Education Lecture Series. This series brings in leading educators from across
the country to conduct lectures and workshops for our undergraduate and graduate students. Past
guests include David Elliott, Edwin Gordon, Andrew Litton (Conductor of the Dallas
Symphony), Cindy McTee (UNT faculty member and nationally recognized composer), and
Chris Azzara (Eastman School of Music). Although I no longer oversee this series, the events
continue to flourish.
Facilitated the development of a Division Mission Statement that brings focus to our commitment
to uphold and enhance our contextually-driven curriculum
Growth of Division Outreach Programs. The division currently offers the Owsley Project (for
disadvantaged children), the Early Childhood Music Program, the UNT String Project, the
Mariachi Angualis, and the New Horizons Senior Band (for senior citizens)
Founder/Director, UNT Early Childhood Music Program, 1996 – Present. The UNT Early
Childhood Music Program provides music instruction for nearly 100 children and their parents
each semester. The program was founded to provide a research setting for early childhood music
education, to enhance the UNT music education curriculum, and provide a service to the
surrounding communities
FACULTY TEACHING ASSIGNMENTS As Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, I teach one class per semester with consistently
outstanding student evaluations.
Fall Semesters:
I lead a study abroad trip to Europe, alternating each year between Austria and Hungary. The course
counts as an upper level Music History elective. The course studies the historical and musical contexts of
Austria and Hungary through the lens of the composer/pedagogues Carl Orff or Zoltán Kodály. The
course was conceived and created by me, and it has resulted in ten study abroad trips that have included
approximately 125 music education students.
Spring Semesters:
I rotate graduate courses every spring semester. The courses include:
College Music Teaching, designed for doctoral graduate students from any music
discipline who are seeking positions in higher education. Average enrollment is 22
students. Feedback on the course has been outstanding.
Arts Leadership, designed for master’s and doctoral students who are interested in issues
related to leadership and the arts. Average enrollment is 22 students. Feedback on the
course has been outstanding.
Ongoing Work: Master’s Thesis and Doctoral Dissertation Advising
I continue to be invited to serve on thesis and dissertation committees. In the past five years, I’ve served
