Specification of Use: A fall arrest anchorage device for single or multiple users. May be used for horizontal line applications, provided the system is designed by a“qualified person”( OSHA definition). For engineering purposes, the CRA has a maximum strength of 10,000lb (4,536kg). May not be used to support scaffolding, window washing or hoisting equipment. Single and Multiple User Specification / Fall Arrest: The CRA is rated for a single person with a maximum weight of 310lb (140kg) including tools and equipment. For single or multiple users OSHA1926:502(d)(15)(i)(ii) specifies that the anchorage device and structure to which it is attached, must be capable of supporting twice the intended fall protection load and designed by a qualified person. For example: the MAF (max. arrest force) for the shock absorber is 900lb (408 kg) x 2 workers= 1,800lb (816 kg). A safety factor of 2 = 3,600lb. (1,632 kg). The CRA is specified to withstand a 5,400lb (2,449kg) force load when attached to a wood structure or steel deck as shown in fig.4 and fig. 7. In this example the structure must be capable of supporting a 3,600lb load thus allowing two workers to be tied off to the anchor. SAS-CRA Commercial Roof Anchor Instruction / Specification Manual 08 Description: Hot dip galvanized steel anchorage device with a 3”(77mm) tubular Riser welded onto a 3/8” (9.5mm) 16” x 16” (408 x 408mm) base plate, fig.1. The 1/2”d. (13mm) U-bar at the top of the riser accepts all types of lifeline connecting hardware. The Storm Cap, shown in fig. 3, has an inside diameter of 3.5” (90mm). The Flashing Base, shown in fig. 2, covers the anchor fasteners providing a smoother finished roofing surface. Each anchor includes: 40 ea. #14 x 2.5” (5.5 x 64mm) hex head screws. Attach the backer board to the primary sheathing using the same fastening pattern and screws. Note: deck screws are not supplied by SAS. Anchor Fastening Specification: Attach the anchor using 40 -2.5”x #14 (5.5 x 64mm) hex head screws. The fasteners must penetrate the backer board. Do a visual inspection from the underside to verify. For top chords spaced 24”(610mm), center the anchor as shown in fig.4 and 6. For top chords less than 24” (610mm) two backerboards must be used and the anchor centered over the top chord as shown in fig. 5. Steel Decking Minimum 20 Gauge Required:Center the anchor base plate fastener holes over the raised channel of the steel decking as shown in fig. 8. Drill 3/32” (2.5mm) pilot holes. Attach the anchor to the metal deck using 36 #14 x 2.5”(5.5 x 64mm) hex head screws.Take care not to over tighten fasteners. Decking less than 20 gauge: Attach a second layer of metal decking 36” x 36” (915 x 915mm) as shown in fig.11 (in red color), over the primary metal decking shown in black. Attach the second layer to the primary using #14 deck screws, 8” (204mm) on center through all raised channels of the metal decking. Or attach a pressure treated plywood backer board to the underside of the steel decking as shown in fig.10 and secure with the specified grade 8 bolts. Metal decking over steel purlins or web trusses. Attach using the same method specified for Steel I Beams shown in fig.12. Drill through the metal decking and bolt the anchor base to a steel backer plate. Center the anchor riser over the top of the truss or purlin.

Steel Decking with Wood Sheathing:Using the fastening method shown in fig.8 and 9, position the anchor over the wood sheathing so the hex head screws penetrate the raised channel of the metal deck. Secure with 36 #14 x 2.5” (5.5 x 64mm) hex head screws.

Rigid Insulation Board with Wood Substrate:As shown in fig. 10, bolt the anchor base to a 3/4”x 24” (19 x 610mm) square PT-plywood backer board on the underside of the primary sheathing. Drill through the insulation board, primary sheathing, and backer board. Use 8 each 1/2” (13mm) grade 8 bolts of sufficient length and secure with lock nuts and washers. Position bolt holes over raised channels if possible.

Concrete Slab:Attach the CRA through the 9/16” (14mm) holes as shown in fig. 13, using 8 each 1/2” (13mm) 6,000lb (2,722kg) tensile strength bolts rated for concrete impediment. The concrete must be a minimum of 4” (102mm) thick, rated at 2,000 p.s.i.. A margin of 1/2”(13mm) between the bottom edge of the concrete slab and the bottom of the bolt, is required. The concrete must be cured sufficiently to withstand the intended fall protection load before using for fall protection.

Steel I-Beams / Wood Beams:As shown in fig. 12, the CRA, may be attached onto a steel or wood beam. Use 6 each 1/2” (13mm) grade 5 all thread or grade 8 bolts to attach the anchor base to a 3/8”(10mm) thick steel backer plate that is 16” x 16” (406mm) or larger, drilled to mirror the anchor base plate attachment holes being used. When using the 3/8”(10mm) holes, a minimum of 8 bolts are required. Contact SAS for factory fabricated backer plates.

Horizontal Line Rigging:The horizontal lines used between anchor points must be engineered to withstand the intended fall protection load. Do not use a lifeline that is rated for vertical personal fall protection as a horizontal line. Contact SAS for custom fabricated horizontal lines, rope grabs and connectors.

Anchor Location / Spacing:The recommended spacing between anchor locations as shown in fig. 14, is no more than 20ft (6m) apart and 6-10ft (2-3m) from the leading edge.
