For single or multiple users OSHA1926:502(d)(15)(i)(ii) specifies that the anchorage device and structure to which it is attached, must be capable of supporting twice the intended fall protection load and designed by a qualified person. For example: the MAF (max. arrest force) for the shock absorber is 900lb (408 kg) x 2 workers= 1,800lb (816 kg). A safety factor of 2 = 3,600lb. (1,632 kg). The CRA is specified to withstand a 5,400lb (2,449kg) force load when attached to a wood structure or steel deck as shown in fig.4 and fig. 7. In this example the structure must be capable of supporting a 3,600lb load thus allowing two workers to be tied off to the anchor. The primary sheathing must be fastened to the top chords and all perimeter edges, 8”(203mm) on center using at least 21 each 2”x#14 (5.5 x 50mm) deck screws. Secure a sheet of 3/4” x 48” (19 x 1,220mm) plywood backer board as shown in figs.4 and 6, cut to fit between the inside width of the top chord spacing. Attach the backer board to the primary sheathing using the same fastening pattern and screws. Note: deck screws are not supplied by SAS. Anchor Fastening Specification: Attach the anchor using 40 -2.5”x #14 (5.5 x 64mm) hex head screws. The fasteners must penetrate the backer board. Do a visual inspection from the underside to verify. For top chords spaced 24”(610mm), center the anchor as shown in fig.4 and 6. For top chords less than 24” (610mm) two backerboards must be used and the anchor centered over the top chord as shown in fig. 5.
