Section 1: Overview
Village ward is located to the east of the Borough and borders the London Borough of Havering. Most of the Ward is residential housing which comprises mainly of terraced or semi detached houses, however there are a number of Flatted Accommodation Estates including Ibscott Close, Millard Terrace, the Leys (Wellington Drive and Birdbrook Close) and the high rise tower block of Thaxted House. Flats have been demolished in Birdbrook Close and will be replaced by new affordable homes. There is also quite a lot of open space in Village Ward including Old Dagenham Park, the Leys, Beam Valley Country Park and the Southern end of Eastbrookend County Park. Heathway Shopping Centre on the Heathway is also located just inside Village Ward. The Dagenham Library and One Stop Shop opened on the Heathway in October 2010.
At the 2011 Census, the population of Village ward was 10,787. The 2011 Housing tenure figures show that Village ward has the highest percentage of households that are rented from a housing association or registered social landlord and also has a high percentage of privately rented housing.
A detailed description of the ward’s demographic characteristics is given in appendix 1.

Section 10: Consultation
LB Barking and Dagenham use a number of consultation and engagement tools to gather the views of our residents and inform how we deliver services in the borough. This takes many forms including Tenants and Resident forums, parents forums in Children’s Centres, youth engagement activities, face to face consultation, events and online engagement.
We can conduct online engagement in two ways.
1. Surveys are sent directly to specific residents. This is useful to conduct targeted consultation e.g. customer satisfaction surveys, or to identify issues in a specific geographical area
2. Open surveys for all residents and stakeholders. These are placed on the engagement portal so a resident can find all the surveys that are currently being conducted.
The public consultation portal can be found by clinking on the link on the front page of the Council website. The direct link is: http://barking-dagenham.limehouse.co.uk/portal
