goal of reducing harm to all Alaskans.

Prevent sexual trauma and provide comprehensive, collaborative crisisintervention, advocacy, and support to victims/survivors, their families, andour communities.

CORE VALUES:

Every year, our Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®event has successfully raised financialsupport for STAR, and awareness about theimportant role men play in the prevention ofviolence against women and girls. Our 2020event was canceled due to the pandemic.

Here's the good news - we found a way tobring it back as safely as possible - outside! We ask that you will join us on Saturday,July 24 at the Cuddy Family Midtown Park,to what is sure to be a fun, uproarious event.

Funds raised from the Walk will supportSTAR's critical services for survivors of sexualtrauma here in Alaska. STAR provides 24/7support to over 1,000 people each yearthrough our Crisis Line, immediate response,advocacy services, therapy and long termsupport as well as community preventionand education programs.

Having faced significant funding cuts thisyear, we need your help in being able toprovide care and prevention programs forour community. We hope you can join us.

Every 7 hours, another Alaskan is sexually assaulted. The most common age offemale victims in Alaska is 15, and for male victims it is age 5. (State of AlaskaDepartment of Public Safety 2019 Uniform Crime Report @https://dps.alaska.gov/statewide/r-i/ucr).

This event calls attention to the fact that sexual violence is widespread andimpacts every person in our state. Rape, sexual assault, and sexual harassmentharm our community, and statistics show that for too many years, Alaska has hadthe highest rates of sexual assault in the nation.

STAR is the only agency in Alaska specializing and focusing solely on sexualtrauma prevention and response. Whether someone comes forward about arecent trauma or something that happened to them decades earlier, STAR meetsthem exactly where they are to support them on their healing journey. STARoffers a variety of services that include legal advocacy, court and medicalaccompaniment, safety planning and emergency assistance (such as emergencyrelocation, rapid rehousing, protective order application and hearing support),trauma therapy, support groups and art therapy.
