Understanding beliefs is central to Sociology because they shape the way we see the world and influence how we live. Sociologists are interested in several key areas within this topic including the social role of religion and the functions it performs for individuals, groups and society. Sociologists are also interested in whether religion has a ‘future’ or whether it is no longer relevant. Furthermore, others are concerned with looking at religion and how beliefs within a larger global context are helping us to understand the role religion plays in conflicts etc.
