> A Craving of aScientist!
Prof. Who Cares
May, June 2015
Abstract
An old and a young scientists talk on a mirror: The author
reportsits thoughts about a conversation he had, when he was young,
withan older colleague! The topic was: >
a storyline...
In physics, string theory is a theoretical framework in which
the point-likeparticles of particle physics are replaced by
one-dimensional objects calledstrings. String theory describes how
these strings propagate through spaceand interact with each other.
On distance scales larger than the string scale,a string looks just
like an ordinary particle, with its mass, charge, and
otherproperties determined by the vibrational state of the
string.1

Come on guy, we are just writing a fucking stupid introduction
for a fuck-ing stupid journal thats going to index our fucking
stupid work! Thats thefinest best introduction you could ever write
for this fucking stupid document.

Whats this for?
Actually, we were going to write an essay to denounce scientists
in theacademia!
OK, LETS TALK ABOUT IT: >
OK, WHOS A SCIENTIST?
A SCIENTISTS SOMEONE WHO BELIEVES THE WORLDS WON-DERFUL, AND YET
TO BE DISCOVERED!
The older colleague of mine once told me: >3 And I cant that
accept it, if you say you are a scientist, YOU AREA
SCIENTIST!!!4
Ok, little-Scientist, may I ask you a question? If I am to offer
you to livelike John Holmes or Galileo Galilei, What would you
chose? I mean: I offeryou to give up your miserable life and, in
exchange, youll live exactly, fromthe birth, to the death, the life
of either John Holmes or Leonardo da Vinci...Ok, lets state it
better:!!!! If I offer you to revive, in any possible new lifeyou
can imagine, what would you chose?
> repliedAlbert Einstein!5
But, if my offer were real...so, just for speaking: >
I dont know what would say Albert Einstein, but me, myself, I
thinkI would not chose to be a scientist! ...Yes, I like to be a
scientist, I liked
3-I, basically, I am born scientist- says google translator. -I,
me, myself, from the basematter, I have been born a scientist-
would say I.
4Im just a bit sorry about the way, sometimes, I write in
English ordering the wordsas I would speak them in Italian. Reading
it, I notice it might sound strange to a nativespeaker, but,
sometimes, I might like to keep it that way.
5In my englalian fantasy!

the idea, when I was a child, to be a scientist, to discover
something, to beimportant. To discover, when I was a child, was
something really important!
>Who told you to be born a scientist? Would YOU really chose
that for
yourself? And, if not, whos the master that did chose it for
you?
OK, WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DENOUNCE?
Mathematics in science: IT IS A COMMON BELIEF, IN THE
ACADEMIA,TODAY, THAT WHOS NOT MATHEMATICALLY SKILLED COULDNOT BE A
SCIENTIST!6
There are two aspects in science: observation (order data) and
wandering(imagine a possible past, predict a possible future). If
you are a scientist,in the Academia, You do need MATHEMATICS to
state and prove yourclaims... It wasnt just like this, when since
Science and Academia did join!Today, by
self-constructed-reputation, we do believe that Academia
containsthe most talented mathematical minds, keeping them
brilliant...and frying.7
However, nowadays, with a minimal mathematical training you
mightenter the academia and maybe claim yourself a scientist! So
you start doingsuch important experiments that you need to hide
your observations!8 Yes,your research, in the Academia, is so
important that you shouldnt speakabout it with anybody!9 And then,
if you do not find what you were lookingfor, why dont just publish
fake results to support some friendly theory?10
Now, if you are not in the Academia, please, dont worry about
this words,we are speaking here about completely useless theories,
and behaviours thatonly spread their influence on the academic
world. Theres no Science, theresno improvement, theres no real
discovery in the acts of hiding or compet-ing!11
They had a minimal mathematical training, they are counting
somethingelse...They just use MATHEMATICS for strategies and
plans...
6I believe I believe it, Isaac, dont you agree?7When children
pretend to understand so great mathematical formulas they are
ready
to believe the most unbelievable stories...Even if you dont get
the formulas, you knowtheres MATHEMATICS behind those fairy
tales...and brilliant minds you trust!
8What if another team publishes them before you?9What if they
steal your so great ideas!
10And what if somebody else supports it too?11I hope YOU believe
it!!!
4
-
So then, in such a competition, SCIENCE LOSES,
MATHEMATICSWINS!
Sometimes I am thinking about LOVE
Yeah, speak it easy: LOVE WINS, SCIENCE LOSES!
Yeah, I know, sometimes I have thought about the science
ofLOVE...
Yeah, sorry... Id rather say Im really sorry for that, but, you
know... Idont know...12
Ok, Im here, alone with my notebook, questioning myself why the
hell Iam doing all this?
Do I really need this to be published?Do I really want someone
to read this? What is it useful for?Ok, I think Im brilliant, I
really like to share this information with you!
and....YES, I AM BRILLIANT!So, what do you say? Do you like
it?Im just writing to show the whole world that I am
brilliant....and here comes the shadow...13
>14
OK, thanks, I am not so brilliant as I felt...after all...By the
way, isnt LOVE brilliant?
It looks like a final match: MATHEMATICS vs LOVE
And, obviously, the uncorrupted judge for this competition cant
be anyoneelse than a scientist!
12You know, if LOVE WINS and SCIENCE LOSES, why are there still
so many scien-tists around?
13My grandmother once told me: > She meant I was shining by
reflected light: >she used to say, >
14I cant find, at the moment, a better definition of the idea of
BRILLIANT than theone my grandmother told me: Brilliant is
something generating light.
5
-
Lets start an interview:
Question: Are we going somewhere?MATHEMATICS: Yes!LOVE: I hope
so!
Question: Are you afraid?MATHEMATICS: No!LOVE: Sometimes!
Sometimes I think Im going on the wrong direc-
tion...15
Ohu, LOVE is so many things, MATHEMATICS is just tough, how
canwe really judge?
Question: Would you say you are positive?MATHEMATICS: I dont
know, and I really dont care!LOVE: Thats the best I could do!
Trying to be positive, I mean...
Question: What would you say positive means?MATHEMATICS:
Nothing! Really, Im quite sure I dont care!LOVE: Its trusted hope,
its a feeling I like!
So, as long as we are speaking for LOVE: negatives fear,
positives hope!
Question: LOVE, would you say you like being afraid?LOVE:
Nooo!!! I dont think so, but MATHEMATICS made me think
that fear can save my life!
Wait, wait, wait...
Question: Are you both collaborating?MATHEMATICS: Never thought
about it! I dont care!LOVE: Its a slightly trusted hope! Sometimes
I am afraid I could kill
MATHEMATICS, I really enjoyed the idea!
15Today, I saw a cat taking a wrong direction when running from
a car. The drivermanaged to dodge it, but it really looked like the
cat had put its own life in a real dangerby its own choice! From
the speeds they were running I told both were afraid. By theway,
have you ever seen a Turtle running? Its not easy to scare Turtles,
but it mighthappen...they are not that much slower than YOU.
6
-
Question: Are you afraid to be killed?MATHEMATICS: No!LOVE: Yes,
of course! MATHEMATICS killed me so many times!
Question: Are you rival?MATHEMATICS: Never thought about it! I
dont care!LOVE: Yes, sometimes I am really pissed off by
MATHEMATICS!
Question: LOVE, I thought you were brilliant, do you agree?LOVE:
Yes, sometimes I do am brilliant!
Question: If you expect something to happen, does it actually
happen?MATHEMATICS: Yes!LOVE: Ehm...sort of...
LOVE, sometimes, is actually what I think it is; MATHEMATICS
isalways what I think it is.
Judge, it looks like you must chose between something you can
trust andcontrol, and something that controls you and you cant
trust!!!
Theres been pleasure in playing with them, theres been some
pleasure,you know it...
What can I say, thank you both for all of your
time................................ANDA FINAL QUESTION: You think
you are stronger than the other one
and that you might die without the other one?
Community Excellence
Please excuse me for the previous divagation and its doubtful
content, letsget back to academics. My older colleague has been
organizer of many con-ferences and workshops; he has also been
editor, co-editor, invited-editor,special-editor for many journal
issues. In practice, as a voluntary editor, hehad a final word
(either accept or reject) for many many articles. Once,I asked him
if he would ever suggest to read some of these papers to somepeople
not belonging to its academic community.
>
7
-
If you are wandering around communities, just join the one you
think thestrongest, and do what you can!16
So, scientific communities and academic communities...there are
big dif-ferences, you know, in motivation and production!!!
This is what I want you to say: I have a perfectly clear
imaginary ideaof what a scientific merit is.
Of course, you obviously know that, nowadays, the academic
system hasbeen enriched with an evaluation mechanism of merit that
some academiccommunities might easily satisfy, even reaching
excellence, by a joined effortfocused on whatever direction...
THIS IS IMPORTANT: Scientific merit is keeping people with
theirmouth open! (In apparent cataleptic state...) There are
communities thatcan be labelled excellent, and there are single
scientists, in Academic Com-munities, that might be labelled
excellent, and these are just some of thefruits of joint academic
effort focused on a given direction... EXCELLENCEkeeps the mouths
shut!!!
Dilemmas
So, I know that what I have done is, scientifically, complete
rubbish (has noscientific merit), but I also know it helps me and
my community to survive, what should I do???
>
But Science, the Science YOU dream, does it really exist in the
Academia? What should WE teach the youngsters? Should WE exploit
their work
for our bibliometry? Should WE teach them to focus their efforts
on bib-liometry? Should WE really trust bibliometry?
While academics sell themselves to bibliometry, front-line
researchers careabout results! But wheres the front-line research
really carried on?
IS THERE SOMETHING, NOWADAYS, SOMETHING WE DO NOTHAVE, THAT
COULD BE USEFUL ??? 17
16Dont worry, nobodys going to eat you!17I know, I can imagine,
young slavery could be really useful for the older ones...and,
of
course, older ones have got all the power of their
communities...a whip, a trusted whip, could really turn that useful
for scientists all of us...
8
-
Youngster, Just a warning: Your Future is Yours; Bibliometry is
justMONeY, you can get it in many ways and, by the way, do you
really needit? If your efforts are guided just by bibliometry, be
aware, someday, YOUmight want YOU to be dead...18
Figure 1: Via Crucis... >
Science? Whats Science?
Science is experience. Science is knowledge. Science is
observation, Scienceis storytelling, a story you might trust.
Science is an art. Science is satisfiedexpectation. Science is
good, theres no evil in Science but, till Nature is
18If YOU do not deserve it, YOU react !
9
-
stochastic, till scientists discuss about things they dont know,
Sciencesjust another gambling game. And the winner is.... Pain?
Should a scientistsuffer? Shouldnt a scientist experience the pains
of life in the attempt toavoid these pains for all of his kind and
the future of his kind? A scientist, nowadays, is called a doctor.
Who doesnt hope, nowadays, that Sciencecould be a medicine? Yes,
Sciences just another place you can chose to betyour Hope... a
place you should trust...19 But tell me, theoretician, howmany
fairy tales, how many mathematical formulas may match the wholeset
of measures you have piled up? Whos got the power to command:
>.
An experiment
What if I told you, little-Man, that Science, a fruit of your
efforts, has, already, the means to make you immortal, to avoid you
from suffering andageing?
My older colleague once asked me: >. Yes, I replied, if mixed
with some chronicpain, to keep that fear alive, to make death a
relief... >. Nowadays, occidental medicine has got a lot of
trust, I Mightprove it by diagnosing to sane people a deadly
disease, I might also suggest apossible cure, to be assumed
chronically, but such a possible cure, you know, might cause some
pain...
> This I dont know, I cant say nothing more than:
Eventually,he might die...
So, you actually dont know weather just chronic fear xor just
chronicpain might cause a man to die... And what about hope? Might
hope save aman from death?
To test it empirically I might think of experiments dosing fear
(diagnosingyou prone to the disease) and pain (I cut you in pieces
to prevent the disease)in different concentrations on different
subjects...Doctor, I know you dontknow what you are doing, that
your diagnoses are the results of an educationreceived from above,
but, why dont you just tell people they are sane,
19Why dont a garbage can?
10
-
that the pain will pass? Why dont you let them live their lives?
No, youare obliged to wait the definitive cure to be publicly
announced, the trust onyour cares will increase, and then youll be
trained to diagnose new moderndiseases...
>20
It might sound like a provocation, and you know that provocation
is justa dance of fear... The fact is that I am facing you, what do
you want fromme?21 Immortality is not to fear death! Do you really
want to crave forit?

somethingbetter we should go for?
PLEASE, WRITE BELOW!
MONeY can buy you happiness, can buy you pleasure, can buy you
com-fort, but keep in mind that MONeY, substantially, is
unhappiness! MONeYis work, MONeY is slavery! MONeYs just different
garbage! till men trustMONeY, MONeY makes you men garbage-builders
IT might trust! Whatabout happiness when theres no MONeY anymore?
Shouldnt scientists fan-tasise about societies without MONeY? Is
trust something we would needwhen theres no more MONeY around?23 If
you have to discuss about it,trust is just another name for
fear...
Science should aim at sustainable and renewable happiness, but
then, again, we should know better about happiness... So scientists
should exploreeach pleasure they might reach, thats what they have
to learn, to stimulateand spread.
But what if it hails? Whos going to pay to restore the beauty of
yourbeloved car?

No need for MONeY, no need for trust!!! But what if YOU can only
withprostitutes? $: In hoc signo vinces!25
So, lets speak frankly, it is clear that with this document you
want toinfluence morality, you want to divulge a new morality,
doubt and untrust-worthiness. You dont make promises and you just
say: NO MONeY, NOTRUST, SPEAK YOUR THOUGHTS, FEEL...
What about the system, the system who has provided us all sorts
ofcomforts and all sorts of unimaginable pleasures? Will it survive
withoutMONeY? Who will keep it clean and shining? For what
reason?
Real merit is been kept without MONeY to be paid!
Happiness? Whats Happiness?
We met a man once, lets call him HIM, who was really too happy
to betrue...he just believed he was the happiest person in the
world! Yes! Thehappiest!!! Can you believe HIM?
Today scientists are trying to define and measure happiness, but
themeaning we associate the word happiness is peculiar to the
experienceof each single one of us. While happiness is relative,
MATHEMATICS isnot! Scientists, today, do walk around asking people
to rate how happy theyare in a scale between, say, -10 and
+10...
HIM, if asked, would have said, of course, he was happy +10.
Wetalked a lot about HIM... Is he really that happy? was our
doubt...

MATHEMATICS and LOVE: Two Gods living the Pantheon, there is
nothird place left.
Little animals, living on Earth, were the fruits of their
copulation: MONeYand Science!26
OK, its SCIENCE VS MONEY:
MATHEMATICS might use MONeY, to win against Science. LOVE
mightuse Science, to win against MONeY.
Now, man, you have the choice! On Both you might march
strong...orjust perish in slavery!!!
Decide, ASAP!!!27
26Today they are really fighting and might even kill each
other!27And, please, scientist, tell me one thing: How could I
measure my real merit, what
do I deserve, when theres no MONeY anymore? How can I trust any
possible measureif your data affects what you measure? How can I
trust YOU, if your measures done forMONeY?

A Real Disease
You know, speaking to myself like you do...this continuous
questioning ev-erything I might do, this whispers about why Id like
to do whatever Id liketo do...it is a disease, it is the worst
disease YOU ever had... It is reallyreally worse than doing
nothing! You know what to do, start doing it! Theart does never
die, such a disease looking for perfection...the only friend ofyour
loneliness...
Whats a man useful for?
You are dead if you are useless. You need a user to be useful.
Men are justan instrument for the Arts28 to breathe alive! Perhaps
they were asleep, orliving their own life, whatever their
dimension... YOU know the Arts existedbefore existed man. Men got
in touch with them, but LOVE... LOVE mightwant you to die... while
MATHEMATICS measuring the Arts...their last andnew born
breath...
Yes, I believe that MATHEMATICS is an Art, something that
existedbefore mankind, but there are parts of her essence only man
can be touchedby.29 The sames for MUSIC, but thats another name for
LOVE. LOVEsnot a prerogative of humans, but humans might use
symbols, to spread it.Ideas that got a canvas in reading/writing
man. Todays men need symbols,to figure about LOVE...30 I wonder
whether men loved more before thesesymbols, that veil such great
discoveries in feeling old ideals. I might beafraid he has
suffered, the man of the old-times; The fact that we do knowtoday:
HE managed to grow!
Shaking whips, thats been another prerogative of human
beings...Slaveryet al.: I do not care you suffer to get my best
comfort31 The Arts of a DarkWorld called man on Planet Heart!32
28What Plato called Ideas.29Or, maybe, MATHEMATICS is LOVEs most
miserable exorcism in fighting against
FEAR...30A side effect of the really secure system men, and the
Arts above them, have created...31I just might say Thank you!32A
LAWYER, THATS WHAT YOU NEED! THAT YOU DO FEEL IN GUILT, BUT
DONT WANT TO BE PUNISHED !!!

...whats going to happen next?
Systems biology is the computational and mathematical modelling
of com-plex biological systems. An emerging engineering approach
applied to biomed-ical and biological scientific research, systems
biology is a biology-based inter-disciplinary field of study that
focuses on complex interactions within biolog-ical systems, using a
holistic approach (holism instead of the more
traditionalreductionism) to biological and biomedical
research33
THERES A LOT MORE THAN BIOLOGY IN HUMAN BEHAVIOUR
Theres a lot more than biology (at least as regards the biology
we doalready know), in all Arts and human idea(l)s... Theres a lot
of Informationmoving around in the process of spreading the Arts,
controlling mens be-haviour. Whats the nature of this Information,
and how, if at all, does thislot more interact with the biology we
do already know?
Do you really think that something like enthusiasm is the random
prod-uct of firing neurons? Who knows, probably the description of
enthusiasmis the result of a random process, but dont you think
that enthusiasm didexist before the whole process begun? Dont you
think that something likeenthusiasm tells our neurons how to fire?
Dont you see how it intention-ally spreads into the system, for HIM
and by HIM created?
What happened after Renaissance, why did men stop their course
towardsthe Art called beauty? Where did corruption, fraud and
deception comefrom?
Once HIM build a mirror for HIM, to tell him who he was, the
mirrorgave the answer: >
There was enthusiasm, once, flying towards beauty... Then
MONeYbroke its wings!!! Angels became men, craving for the beauty
they oncebelieved to reach.
Do you really believe you have irremediably failed? Do you
believe youvelost your heart?
>And where the hell did the idea of failure did come
from?

documents you might findon the cloud.

Fallen Angels do have childs, sons with healthy wings, why do
you choseto break them too?
The reductionists tell us there are strings looking for a place
where theycan vibe their most enthusiastic tones; the holistic eyes
do show us they arecompeting for the more resonant caves...
...lets wake HIM up...
Amico mio, a chi appartiene la Tua vita, se tu non ne sei la
stella?Lets confess: SCIENTISTS HAVE THE MOST MISERABLE FAN-
TASIES OF THE WORLD, ALL OF THEM DIED MISERABLY.... 34
34- and why should it be different, since since the day of their
birth, the world has alwaystreated them with the sacredness
reserved for the dead?
