This Week— Seek the Living God: Leaving the Tomb My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Let us start with loving Jesus! This saying should not be lost on us. Jesus is really the only one that can make us feel better and take away all that ails or plagues us. At times our earthly pains may seem unbearable, and I am sure these pains are real for many of us. Here, I want to recall a prominent saying of my parents and grandparents, offer it upwith the understanding that we were to offer up our struggles and pains to Jesus for the poor souls in purgatory. By loving Jesus and trusting in Gods mercy we can alleviate eternal misery. While at times this life can seem endless, the fact of the matter is it will end. So our Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 130) for this weekend, with the Lord there is mercy and fullness of redemptionreminds us that God wants to be a part of our life both now and eternally. What most all parents and grandparents realize about parenting is that most drama and pain in a childs life, while significant to the WE ARE DISCIPLES: LEARNING, LOVING & LIVING CHRISTS MISSION Sunday, March 29, 2020 child often times does not in reality rise to the level of the drama expressed. So teaching them about an earthly and eternal perspective is important. We see in our Gospel (John 11: 1-45) today scenes filled with human frailties. First, in Bethany, we encounter the suffering surrounding a dying man. Lazarus is ill, and his sisters Martha and Mary are concerned about him and send a message to their friend, Jesus. While we do not know from Scripture if they asked Jesus to come or even to cure their brother, we do know the message said, Master, the one you love is ill.Second, we see threats to human safety. Jesus announces that He intends to go back to Judea, and His disciples question Him because the Jews had recently tried to stone him. Jesus is steadfast in His love for Lazarus and his family, and says He must go as Lazarus has died. Interesting side note, that wasnt a part of the message. God always knows our story, even before we do. Ponder that for a moment! if we seek him out. I know that some struggle with this sacrament, while others cling to it. For those who are struggling with the absence of the sacrament at this time I want to remind you of our Church teaching. The Catechism of the Catholic Church # 1452 reminds us, “when it arises from a love by which God is loved above all else, contrition is called ‘perfect’ (contrition of charity). Such contrition remits venial sins; it also obtains forgiveness of mortal sins if it includes the firm resolution to sacramental confession as soon as possible.” Let us offer up to Jesus our lives, our inconveniences, our pains and sufferings for others. After all, to Jesus, we are really no different than I was to my parents and grandparents. So the, let us start with loving Jesus. For with him there is mercy and fullness of redemption.

Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament, pray for us!

Third, we see Martha and Mary, and others mourning

the one they love. We see Jewish neighbors from

nearby villages and towns coming to comfort the

sisters. We even see Jesus, true God and true Man,

filled with emotion, weeping at the loss of his friend.

Finally, we see confusion and misunderstanding. Like us, the disciples don’t completely understand Christ’s mission. See the confusion of Thomas and his bold comment, Jesus takes his time getting to Lazarus, while the sisters bemoan Jesus’ absence. Our human frailty begs one thing from us. Faith! That precious gift given to us in baptism. That faith must be nurtured and cared for as if it was our most prized possession, it is! One way we treasure and nurture our gift of faith is through the Sacraments. The Sacrament of Reconciliation or Penance is worth addressing in light of our readings today. Jesus tells them to untie Lazarus and let him go. Scripture scholars see this as an unbounding from sins. Jesus forgives his sins and ours
