    Section 5.1.3 General

Each AC Motor used on the equipment is de-sign.ed to operate at a speed best suited to itsparticular application. These squirrel cage, in-duction-type motors provide maximum torqueimmediately upon starting and continue to de-liver required torque under varying loads. Anintegral electromagnetic brake sets automaticallywhen electric power is interrupted, releases when

electric power is applied. AC Motors are mountedon gear boxes. Their output pinions are support-ed by the motor bearing installed in the gear boxcover. In some cases, an endbell may be atfachedto the drive end of the AC Motor to support therotor. Always refer to lubrication instructions forproper lubrication and interval of lubrication.

Section S.2.S.M GeneralThe No.4 Primary Gearbox installed on the equipment is located between electric motors and themedium of power application such as a driving pinion or cable drum. The gearboxes are boltedon, although in some instances, primary gear box cases may be welded to the structure or the lidsof the secondary gearboxes. There are two reduction gears in the primary gearbox, both mount-ed on tapered roller bearings. The primary gear roller bearing can be adjusted with an adjust-ing nut located on the gearbox lid.

INSPECTION AND SERVICES ASSEMBLYSection 5.2.5.3. General - Far re-assembly simply reverse the disassembly procedure. Use the following outlinefor special instructions in addition to knowledge gained during disassembly.a. Clean the gearbox case, lid, gears and bearings._b. Examine them for burrs, nicks, broken teeth or other damage.c. Examine output shaft oil seal and replace if worn.Note: Some gearboxes also have an "0" Ring on the output shaft which may require re-

placement.Note: Small burrs or nicks can be dressed out, but damaged bearings Or broken gears must be

replaced. The gear set is designed so that individual gears may be replaced.

    ADJUSTMENTSection 5.2.5.4

    a. Tighten the output shaft nut until a slight extra drag is obtained on the bearing. The drag isdetermined by rotating the output shaft by hand. Continue tightening nut until a lock screwcan be installed to secure nut.

    b. Torque primary gear adjusting nut. (Refer to Note below.)Note: To adjust an adjusting nut, determine first the torque required to overcome resistance of

its nylon locking plugs. Add this figure to required torque (350 ft. Ibs.) Torque nut to thesum of these two figures. Rotate bearings as torque is applied.

    INSTALLATIONSection 5.2.5 .5

Steps (a) and (b) apply to bolt-on gearboxes only.a. Attach adequate hoisting device to the primary gearbox.b. Hoist gearbox into well and secure it in its mounted position.c. Fill gearbox to proper level with specified lubricant (Refer to Lubrication.)d. Replace Electric motor. (Refer to AC or DC Motor Installation.)e. Connect electrical leads to the control switches of the gearbox limit switch as tagged or in-

dicated in Wiring Code or the Wiring Diagrams.f. Install cable on cable drum and apply cable load or load output pinion of the primary gear-

box whichever is applicable for the installation._ g . Adjust limit switches if necessary.

    3-LEAF REVERSINGSWITCH

    - . BUS BAR

    Section 5.4.5 General

THE 3-LEAF REVERSING SWITCHES are spe-cially designed to carry the heavy currents andhigh amperages present in the circuits duringthe periods when AC Motors are being started, stopped, or reversed. These switches are heavyduty, line switches which are aperated by elec-

t romagnetically holding coils. Each switch has12 silver alloy contact points. Six of these pointsare stationary and six are moveable. The switchis mechanically locked in its neutral position un-til current is applied to one of its two holdingcoils.
