The vSphere Agent performs centralized virtual machine backups without installing any software in the VMs running on a Host Server. The agent uses Changed Block Tracking (CBT), enabling a full and incremental backup regime. With CBT, an organization can schedule frequent incremental backups (ex. every 15 minutes) so that with point-in-time recoveries, any virtual server data loss would be minimized to minutes rather than hours or days. AGENTLESS The vStorage APIs are directly integrated with UltraBac, enabling the agent to back up every virtual machine on a host without any installed software. Licensed per socket, the vSphere Agent has no limit to the number of virtual machines it can protect on a Host. FILE / FOLDER / VM LEVEL RESTORES Recover guest OS files, folders, virtual disk files (VMDKs), or a full VM from UltraBac’s one pass backup. For single file restore, simply mount a virtual machine backup as a local drive letter enabling fast, easy retrievals. CHANGED BLOCK TRACKING CBT keeps track of the blocks of a virtual disk that have changed since a set point-in-time. The vSphere Agent uses this feature to perform an incremental backup of all the changed blocks of a virtual disk since the last backup. After each backup, CBT is reset to accurately track the next period of time’s changed blocks to be included in the next incremental backup. Using CBT technology, the vSphere Agent allows frequently scheduled VM backups (ex. every 5, 10, 15, 30 minutes). Setting up frequent incremental backups not only minimizes data loss, but also saves space with just changed blocks being backed up. Restoring from a point-in-time is a snap by simply selecting the incremental backup to begin the restore process – the vSphere Agent automatically does all the work. For organizations that use VMware with CBT turned off, the vSphere Agent performs full VM backups. NON-WINDOWS VM PROTECTION The vSphere Agent can be used to back up any non-Windows VM (e.g. any flavor of Linux, etc.). Non-Windows VMs require a complete restore. vMOTION Backups are not affected by vMotion, which can move VMs betwen host machines for load balancing during the backup process. RELIABILITY The vSphere Agent uses VMware’s vStorage APIs (VADP) as the base for its data protection solution. Guest VMs are backed up and restored in their native format. Native backups are more efficient, and recoveries faster, by eliminating the need for any conversions. FAST RECOVERY No other framework is necessary. Native integration with UltraBac provides users with the ability to back up virtual machines without additional steps or software. Full and incremental image backups and restores of VM’s hard disks are done directly to and from the datastore. Only one backup is required for image and file-level recovery. In just a few minutes an entire VM can be restored, or an individual file can be recovered from any virtualized application. EASE OF USE Backups and restores can be performed from one centralized location (backup server). No agents or services are necessary inside guest VMs. Using UltraBac’s advanced features (Backup Scheduler, Centralized Management, etc.), backups and restores are easily managed by administrators. LAN FREE BACKUPS Off-host centralized backup removes the burden from vSphere hosts by consolidating the backup load and management onto a central backup server using SAN / iSCSI transport mode. AUTOMATED DATA CENTER FAILOVER The vSphere Agent saves all configuration parameters for each VM, and has a utility that enables the quick re-creation of a virtualized data center by listing every VM backed up and each new virtual host machine. An administrator need only check which of the backed up VMs are to be assigned to a new host from the list to totally automate migrating, configuring, attaching, and powering up the selected VMs. BACKUP AND DISASTER RECOVERY SOFTWARE FOR BUSINESS vSphere Agent for VMware Infrastructure WWW.ULTRABAC.COM 15015 MAIN STREET .
