By virtually every electoral measure – including age, sex, race, religion, income and region –

McCain lost ground won by George W. Bush four years ago

Barack Obama won overwhelmingly among blacks, Hispanics and voters under the age of 30 and he made critical

inroads with swing groups like Catholics, suburbanites, political independents and even veterans

Hispanic voters represented greatest electoral shift. Nationwide, they voted 67% for Obama and 31% for McCain.

In 2004, 53% went for John Kerry and 44% voted for George W. Bush
