Vinelle is a simple raglan cardigan knit from the bottom up, with two twin lace panels down the front and seed stitch edges. I used worsted weight wool, but cotton and acrylic may also be used.
Gauge: 4.5sts per inch 6 rows per inch
Suggested Yarn: 4 (5, 5, 6, 7, 7, 8) skeins Cascade Heathers 220 Color: 9452 (Light Blue Heather) 220 yds weight 100 grams 3.5 oz Btw(880-1540) yds Materials: US 8 32” circular needles, US 8 dpns, Darning Needle, Buttons
Sizes: 33 (36, 40, 44, 48, 52, 56)
Note: Except for the top buttonhole, I did not include directions for other buttonhole placement because I feel they can be placed anywhere you prefer, as long as they are evenly spaced apart.
CO : Cast On k: knit p: purl k2tog: knit 2 stitches together m1: Make 1 stitch ssk: skip 2 stitches knit wise onto right needle, stick left needle through back of both stitches and knit. Yo: yarn over Psso: pass slipped stitch over Make edge buttonhole: K1, p1, k2tog, yo, k1.
CO 150 (160, 180, 200, 220, 230, 250) sts K 5 rows seed st. Note: As you knit the body, be sure to include 5 seed sts at the beginning and end of every row. Chart A is knit right after first 5 edge stitches and 23 sts before the last 5 edge sts. You may want to place a marker at these points as guides.
Next Row: (RS) k5 sts seed st (edge), K row 1 Chart A (23sts), pm, k 23 (27, 36, 45, 48, 54, 64) pm, k 48 (50, 52, 74, 66, 68), pm, k 23 (27, 36, 45, 48, 54, 64) sts, pm, k23 sts chart A, k5 sts seed. Note: The 1st & last markers serve as lace pattern guides. The Middle 2 markers serve as shaping stitch increase/decrease guides. Knit st, including edges and lace pattern as established, about 4”, or until desired length, 2.5” before your waistline. BEGIN SHAPING (OPTIONAL) The following set of 3 decrease rows 3 increase rows will give your cardigan a subtle shaping. Decrease 12 sts: Knit pattern as est. to 3 sts before marker. Ssk, k1, pm, k1, k2tog, k to 3 sts before next marker, k1, ssk, k1, pm, k1 k2tog. Knit as est. Repeat decreases every 4 rows on RS 2 more times. 138 (148, 168, 188, 208, 218, 238) sts Knit even as est 3 rows. End (WS) Increase 12 sts: Knit to 1 st before stitch marker. M1, k1, sm, k1, m1, k to 1 st before next marker, m1, k1, sm, k1, m1. Knit remainder of row as est. Repeat every 4 rows, 2 more times. 150 sts (160, 180, 200, 220, 230, 250)
Continue knitting pattern as established until .5" from underarm. End RS row 9 of Chart A. Set aside. SLEEVES CO 31 (33, 37, 41, 45, 47, 51) Join in the round. Be careful not to twist your stitches. Place marker. Knit seed st for 1 inch. K 1 row st stitch. Increase 10 sts as follows: Row 1: k1, m1, k to 1 st before marker, m1, k1. Knit 4 rows st st. Repeat rows 1-4 four more times. 41 (43, 47, 51, 55, 57, 61) Knit to .5” below underarm. Place 12 (13, 15, 16, 18, 18, 20) underarm sts on scrap yarn. (sts on either side of marker) Repeat for 2nd sleeve.
