Version: June 2011 Page 1 of 2 VOLUNTEER ROLE DESCRIPTION Role: Welcoming Team Service: Saturdays at 5.30pm. Reports to: Service Coordinator (Steve Kryger) “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.” Romans 2:913 Purpose: Welcoming Teams exist to provide a warm, friendly environment as we gather together each Saturday night. Welcoming Teams place a particular focus on the newcomer, connecting them with regulars and ensuring they feel welcomed, removing any barriers that exist to their fellowship with us. More than ‘writing nametags’ or ‘saying hello’, our welcoming teams are at the core of our mission at Church by the Bridge: As we serve one another, welcome the newcomer, provide a means of fellowship, and put the needs of others before our own, we are turning this mission statement into a way of life! Responsibilities and Duties: Welcoming Teams are responsible for the following: • Setting up inside church before the service (placing cushions at the end of pews, switching on lamps, tidying any mess, ensure sharp pencils are available in the pews). • Preparing Bibles with handouts. • Greeting people out the front of church. • Writing nametags. • Keeping an eye out for new people, welcoming them to church, giving them welcome packs (to be developed), and connecting them with regulars. This takes place particularly before the service, but also during the midservice break and after the service. • Handing people Bibles as they walk into church. • Ushering newcomers to their seats (e.g. especially when they arrive late). • Tidying Bibles and handouts after the service (i.e. returning leftover handouts to the white trays, and Bibles to the bookshelf).
