VOLUNTEER POSTING INFORMATION POSITION TITLE: UOIT BOARD DIRECTOR: SOCIAL SCIENCE & HUMANITIES POSITIONS AVAILABLE: 1 DATE POSTED: DECEMBER 12, 2016 POSTING EXPIRES: JANUARY 6,2017 POSITION TIME: VOLUNTEER TRAVEL REQUIRED: SOME (BETWEEN CAMPUSES) PRIMARY LOCATION: DOWNTOWN OSHAWA WILL TRAIN APPLICANT(S): TRAINING WILL BE PROVIDED POSITION SUMMARY A BOARD DIRECTOR: - Manages, or delegates the management, of the affairs of the Student Association (SA); - Represents the interests of the Members; - Sets the strategic vision of the Student Association through the Letters Patent and Board’s Ends Policies; - Oversees the services and activities of the Student Association; determines the advocacy priorities of the Student Association; - Oversees the annual operating budget for the Student Association; - Is responsible for all assets and liabilities of the Student Association; - Approves and amends Governance Policies; - Monitors the President’s performance by ensuring compliance with Governance Policies; - Proposes changes to the By-Laws to a Meeting of Members, as needed; - Establishes permanent and / or ad-hoc committees to assist the Board in achieving its objectives; - Conducts referendums in accordance with the Referenda Policy. SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: - Candidates shall be eighteen (18) or more years of age; shall be a Member at the time of appointment and shall otherwise be qualified under the Act to hold such office. - Candidates must provide a clear Criminal Record Information Request. - Candidates must be a current full-time student at UOIT at the downtown campus and must be a full member of the Student Association (paid the SA fee). EXPECTATIONS: • Regularly attend meetings of the Board (1-2 meetings per month, usually lasting 3-4 hours, ending April 30, 2017 • Candidates must provide a clear Criminal Record Information Request. • Candidates must be a current full-time student at UOIT at the downtown campus and must be a full member of the Student Association (paid the SA fee). RENUMERATION: Recognizing the significant preparation required for board meetings, Directors shall receive an honorarium of thirty-five ($35) dollars per meeting.
