Each year, we ask our church to recommit themselves to uphold the church with their prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness. This booklet will help you fulfill the “service” part of that commitment.

First Methodist Grapevine has over 170 ministry opportunities for you to consider when deciding where to serve. It is our hope that in finding your place to serve, you will realize that you ARE the church. Through our ministries we are touching and changing lives in our community. And by being a part of a ministry team, you will experience supportive relationships with others who are excited to be a part of something great!

1 ADULT BIBLE STUDY LEADER Purpose: To help adults grow spiritually. Duties: Facilitate an adult Bible study group. Work with the pastors and staff to determine what classes are needed, when they are to be offered, and provide information needed to promote your class. Time Requirements: 1-3 hours per week, depending on the study, plus prep time. Skills Needed: Ability and willingness to lead a small group through lessons and discussion.

2 ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER Purpose: To help adults grow spiritually. Duties: Fill in as a teacher for Adult Sunday School classes as needed. Your name will go on a list to be distributed to adult Sunday School classes. You will be contacted by individual classes as they have need for a teacher. Time Requirements: Varies. Skills Needed: Ability to create a lesson, present it, and lead discussion.

3 IRON MEN Purpose: To provide opportunities for the men in our congregation to come together and enjoy Christian fellowship, discipleship, and mission. Duties: Participate with other men in fun and faith-building activities, including: Golf Tournament, Chili Bowl, Father/Child events, fishing trips, hunting trips, and service projects. Guest speakers, dinners, and Bible studies are held at various times throughout the year. Time Requirements: Varies. Skills Needed: None.

4 SINGLES’ MINISTRY LEADERSHIP Purpose: To recognize and meet the particular needs of single adults. Duties: Assist with planning events and opportunities for singles to experience spiritual growth through social gatherings, support, study groups and service. Time Requirements: Varies. Skills Needed: Willingness to serve and an understanding of the needs of singles.

5 SPANISH BIBLE STUDY Purpose: To help adults grow spiritually. Duties: Facilitate a Bible study group. Work with pastors and staff to determine what classes are needed, when they are to be offered, and provide information needed to promote your class. Time Requirements: 1 hour per week, plus prep time. Skills Needed: Ability and willingness to lead a small group through lessons and discussions in Spanish.

6 UNITED METHODIST WOMEN Purpose: To know God through study and application of scripture, as well as participation in local and global ministries of the church. Duties: Participate with other women in one of the church’s UMW Circles: The Guild Circle, Wesley Friendship Circle, Susanna Circle or Spanish Circle. Church-wide unit meetings are held at various times throughout the year for fellowship and study. Time Requirements: Varies. Skills Needed: A desire to develop a creative, supportive fellowship with other Christian women.

7 THE WELL Purpose: To assist women in experiencing God's love through a time of fellowship, teaching, and connecting with a multigenerational group of women periodically throughout the year. Duties: Participate in the Thursday evening fellowship dinners 4-5 times a year for replenishment and growth. Time Requirements: Varies. Skills Needed: An open heart and an inviting spirit to bring others to relationship with Christ and other women, both within and outside our church family.

8 CAMPUS ANGELS Purpose: To maintain contact with the church’s college students. Duties: Send e-mails to college students monthly, and make contact via any other means. Mail cookies or other goodies periodically. Assist with assembling and sending “care packages” during finals. Time Requirements: 30 minutes per month. Skills Needed: Access to e-mail and willingness to write. Knowledge of events going on within the church to help keep students connected.

9 COLLEGE NIGHT OUT COORDINATOR Purpose: To coordinate a night out for college (age 18-23) students during school breaks. Duties: Work with Louis to coordinate night out for college age students. Time Requirements: 1 hour monthly until event. Skills Needed: Access to e-mail and willingness to contact support people and reserve location for the event. An open heart and an inviting spirit to foster our connection with our college age students.

10 COLLEGE MISSION TRIP COORDINATOR Purpose: To coordinate a college (age 18-23) mission trip abroad in the late spring of 2012. Duties: Work with Louis to coordinate trip. Time Requirements: 5 hours monthly. Skills Needed: Access to e-mail and willingness to correspond. Develop a working knowledge of mission trip development within the church to help keep students connected. An open heart and an inviting spirit to bring college age students to relationship with the Church.

11 YOUNG ADULT COUPLES’ NIGHT OUT Purpose: To coordinate a much-needed night out full of fun and fellowship for young adult couples (ages 23-35). Duties: Work with Louis to coordinate night out. Time Requirements: 1 hour weekly until event. Skills Needed: Access to e-mail. Willingness to contact people and reserve location of event. An open heart and an inviting spirit to foster our connection with our Young Adult Couples

12 YOUNG ADULT SINGLES’ GAME NIGHT Purpose: To coordinate a night out for our young adult singles (ages 23-35). Duties: Work with Louis to develop a game night, night out, etc. Time Requirements: 1 hour weekly until event. Skills Needed: Access to e-mail. Willingness to contact people and reserve location of event. An open heart and an inviting spirit to foster our connection with our Young Adult Singles.

13 ADULT COUNCIL FOR YOUTH MINISTRIES Purpose: To assist Jenny in the youth ministry. Duties: Discuss youth events and how others can assist. Time Requirements: This board will meet once per quarter. Skills Needed: Compassion for youth and a passion for youth ministry.

14 BOY SCOUT VOLUNTEER Purpose: To work with Cub Scouts and/or Boy Scouts chartered by FUMC. Duties: To serve as Den Leaders/Asst. Den Leaders/Pack Volunteers for Cub Scout Pack 817 in the Grapevine Elementary vicinity; or to serve as Merit Badge Counselors or Troop Committee Members for BSA Troop 700 at FUMC. Time Requirements: 1 to 2 hours per week or activity. Merit Badge counselors will be contacted by the individual scouts after which it may require 1 to 2 hours per week over a 1 to 2 month period. Cub Scout Den Leaders/Assistant Den Leaders require 1 to 2 hours per week over about a 7 to 9 month period (normally September through March). Skills Needed: Merit Badge Counselors for Troop 700 should have specific skills related to the merit badge(s) available. Troop Committee members assist with troop activities, campouts, driving, etc. Den Leaders/Assistant Den Leaders should be willing to work with a group of approximately 8 to 10 young boys ages 7 thru 10. Specific training will be provided. BSA background check and BSA Youth Protection Training required.

15 CONFIRMATION MENTOR Purpose: To provide guidance and leadership for members of the Confirmation Class. Duties: Meet with the Confirmation Class during Sunday School to discuss the given curriculum. You will lead a small group of 5-6 confirmands (mostly 6th graders). Time Requirements: 1 hour per week, plus prep time. Skills Needed: Willingness to lead by example. Safe Sanctuary training.

16 COSTA RICA PLANNING TEAM Purpose: To plan the Spring Break mission trip to Costa Rica. Duties: Meet with Jenny to help plan and organize the mission trip. This includes the fundraising, paperwork, VBS materials, etc. that need to be executed for the trip. Time Requirements: As needed. Skills needed: A passion for seeing the love of Christ taken to Costa Rica. Organizational skills.

17 DONUT DELIVERY Purpose: To provide youth with breakfast at the beginning of the Sunday School hour. Duties: Pick up donuts at Kountry Donuts on Main Street and deliver them to the table in the Family Life Center by 10:00 AM Sundays. Donuts are pre-paid - just sign the receipt and leave it on the youth pastor’s desk in the HUB. Time Requirements: One Sunday per month for about 20 minutes. Skills Needed: Need to be able to drive to the donut store and to the church.

18 DRIVER Purpose: To provide transportation for youth special events. Duties: Be willing to be called upon to drive on an as-needed basis for youth events. Be able to drive your own vehicle one way or both ways. Be available more often in the summer time. Time Requirements: 1-4 hours per event, depending on the location. About 2 times per month in the summer; varies during the year. Skills Needed: Must be 25 years of age or older, have a valid drivers license and car insurance. Need a vehicle that can carry at least three additional passengers. Safe Sanctuary training.

19 FUNDRAISER COORDINATOR Purpose: To plan fundraisers throughout the year for the youth. Duties: Plan and set up fundraisers throughout the year for the youth. Work with Jenny to provide opportunities for the youth to raise money for mission trips and other events we offer the youth. Time Requirements: 1 hour per fundraiser. Skills Needed: Organizational skills. Safe Sanctuary training.

20 HERITAGE YOUTH MINISTRY VOLUNTEERS Purpose: To assist with youth ministries on the Heritage Campus. Duties: Assist the youth leader with the growth and development of youth. Time Requirements: 3½ hours on Sunday, 2½ hours on Wednesday. Skills: Love working with youth. Must be 23 years or older. Safe Sanctuary training is required.

21 HIGH SCHOOL BIBLE STUDY COORDINATOR Purpose: To locate homes for High School Bible Study for each Wednesday night. Duties: Find host homes for High School Bible Study each Wednesday. During the summer we need homes with a pool but not necessary during the school year. Have the host homes commit a month in advance. You will be provided with contact information for homes. Time Requirements: Approximately 30 minutes a month. Skills Needed: Organizational and communication skills.

22 LOCAL MISSIONS COORDINATOR Purpose: To provide local mission opportunities for youth. Duties: Contact organizations/individuals in our community that the youth could serve once per month. Come to the youth gathering to help carry out the mission opportunity. Time Requirements: One Sunday per quarter for 1½ hours plus prep time. Skills Needed: A desire to reach our community and a heart for youth. Safe Sanctuary training.

23 MIDDLE SCHOOL BIBLE STUDY COORDINATOR Purpose: To arrange snacks and drinks for Middle School Bible Study for each Wednesday night. Duties: Contact parents a month in advance to schedule snacks and drinks for Bible Study. Time Requirements: Approximately 30 minutes a month. Skills Needed: Organizational and communication skills.

24 MISSION TRIP SPONSOR Purpose: To work alongside our youth on summer mission trips. Duties: Go on the mission trip (high school or middle school or both) and be a work team leader and assist in evening worship/activities. Drive a van with your work team (2 adults per team) from the church to the mission trip location and then during the week to your worksite. If you are a young adult volunteer, you will assist your co-leader during the week on the worksite and the evening worship/activities. Time Requirements: Attend the pre-trip meeting (approx. 1 hour) and then the trip one week during the summer. High School - June 9-15, 2013; Middle School - July 14-19, 2013. Skills Needed: To drive a van, you must be 25 years of age or older. To be a young adult volunteer you must be 21 years of age to attend High School Mission Trip and 18 years of age to attend Middle School Mission Trip. Safe Sanctuary training.

25 SPECIAL EVENTS: BACK TO SCHOOL PARTY Purpose: To provide a fun event for the youth the Sunday before school begins. Duties: Organize and plan a party for the youth the Sunday before school begins that will attract youth and their friends. Time Requirements: Approximately one hour of planning. Skills Needed: Organizational skills and the ability to plan fun events.

26 SPECIAL EVENTS: CHRISTMAS PARTY Purpose: To plan a fun and meaningful Christmas Party for the youth. Duties: Organize and plan a fun Christmas party for the youth and their friends. Time Requirements: Approximately 1-2 hours of planning. Skills Needed: Organizational skills and ability to create a fun event.

27 SPECIAL EVENTS: SENIOR BREAKFAST COORDINATOR Purpose: To honor graduating seniors with a breakfast during the Sunday School hour. Duties: Organize, plan and execute the Senior Breakfast. Send invitations to seniors, recruit volunteers to assist in preparation and serving breakfast. Time Requirements: 3-5 hours of prep time, plus the morning of the breakfast. Skills Needed: Must be the parent of a Junior youth.

28 SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER Purpose: To teach Sunday School on a rotating schedule during the summer. Duties: Be a part of a teaching team during the summer months for our youth. We have three classes each Sunday during the summer. You will be provided with curriculum. Just come prepared for the morning you teach. Time Requirements: 1 hour of prep time and 1 hour on Sunday mornings. Skills Needed: Willingness to work with the youth and prepare a lesson for them. It is not necessary to be a Bible Scholar! Safe Sanctuary training.

29 SUNDAY NIGHT DINNER COORDINATOR Purpose: To organize a meal for Sunday night youth. Duties: Contact and organize groups or individuals to provide a meal for the youth on Sunday nights. Time Requirements: 15 minutes a week. Skills Needed: Organizational skills and communication skills.

30 SUNDAY NIGHT YOUTH VOLUNTEER Purpose: To be available for youth events on Sunday evenings. Duties: Help with welcoming and connecting new youth to others. Help serve supper with those who brought the meal and/or organize and lead games after worship. Time Requirements: Sunday evenings for approximately 2 hours. Skills Needed: Willingness to invest in the lives of youth. Safe Sanctuary training.

31 SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER Purpose: To present a prepared lesson for youth. Duties: Adequately prepare the lesson for the Sunday you are designated to teach (curriculum provided). Present lesson to the youth and lead discussion. Time Requirements: 1 hour on Sunday morning, plus prep time. Skills Needed: Willingness to work with youth and prepare a lesson for them. It is not necessary to be a Bible scholar! Safe Sanctuary training.

32 SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER SUBSTITUTE Purpose: To present a prepared lesson for youth in the event that regular teachers are unavailable. Duties: Adequately prepare the lesson for the Sunday you are designated to teach (curriculum provided). Present lesson to the youth and lead discussion. Time Requirements: 1 hour on Sunday morning, plus prep time. Skills Needed: Willingness to work with youth and prepare a lesson for them. It is not necessary to be a Bible scholar! Safe Sanctuary training.

33 TRANSPORTATION COORDINATOR Purpose: To provide transportation for youth events. Duties: Coordinate drivers who meet the transportation volunteer requirements to take youth to and from youth events. Time Requirements: ½ hour per event. Skills Needed: Organizational skills.

34 WEDNESDAY BIBLE STUDY

VOLUNTEER Purpose: To assist or lead Bible Study messages for high school and middle school youth. Duties: Rotate leading the Bible Study message with the other adult volunteers. The Wednesday that you are not leading the message, assist youth pastor with crowd control! Time Requirements: Wednesday evenings plus prep time. Middle School Bible Study meets from 5:30 to 7:00 PM in the HUB. High School Bible Study meets from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in youth homes. Skills Needed: A willingness to connect with this generation of youth, a desire to see youth grow in their relationship with Christ, and patience as the youth begin to discover who God has created them to be. To volunteer with the high school youth you must be at least 21 years of age. To volunteer with the middle school youth you must be at least 19 years of age. Safe Sanctuary training required.

35 ACOLYTE SCHEDULE COORDINATOR Purpose: Maintain schedule for acolytes serving in 8:50, 10:10, and 11:15 services. Duties: Work with parents to create serving schedules for each service. Time Requirements: One hour per week; more time needed at beginning of school year to create initial schedule. One year commitment. Skills Needed: Safe Sanctuary training. Knowledge of Excel. Ability to work with acolyte helpers.

36 ACOLYTE TEAM LEADER Purpose: Coordinate activities of Acolyte team and volunteer families. Duties: Assist schedule coordinator, supply coordinator; plan training and appreciation event. Time Requirements: 1-2 hours weekly, as needed for training and appreciation event. Skills Needed: Safe Sanctuary training. Ability to work with Acolyte Team and helper parents.

37 AT HOME HELPER Purpose: Assist Children’s Ministry with special projects. Duties: Work on projects under supervision of Children’s Ministry Assistant. Time Requirements: Flexible. Work can be done at home. Skills: Craft preparation.

38 BIBLE BLAST AUDIO/VISUAL TEAM Purpose: Run sound and audio-visual system for Children’s Sunday School Bible Blast. Duties: Run sound board, do sound checks. Prepare wireless mikes for speakers. Play DVD for morning program – intro, worship, exit. Complete brief training with Bible Blast Team in sound operation. It’s easier than it sounds! Time Requirements: 1 hour per week, 10:05 to 11:00 AM on Sunday (rotating schedule based on how many volunteers we have); 10 minute training with member of Bible Blast Team. Skills Needed: Ability to learn how to follow instructions and learn basic chapel sound board operation. Safe Sanctuary training.

39 BIBLE BLAST HOST/STORYTELLER Purpose: Share Bible stories with children. Duties: Using provided curriculum, tell children Bible story, lead skits and object lessons; introduce and monitor small group games and activities led by teachers. Dismiss classes to classrooms for parent pick up. Time Requirements: Approx. 50 minutes per Sunday – 10:05 to 10:55 AM (rotating schedule based on how many volunteers we have). Skills Needed: Ability to speak in public, work with children. Safe Sanctuary training.

40 CONFIRMATION BRUNCH TEAM Purpose: Fifth grade parents plan and execute a nice brunch for our Confirmation class and families. Duties: Plan and execute a brunch for the Confirmation class and their families on Confirmation Sunday. Make arrangements with a caterer and decorate for the event. Time Requirements: 1-2 hours of prep time and 1-2 hours on morning of brunch. Skills Needed: Organizational skills. Must be the parent of a 5th grade student.

41 HELPING HANDS – BRYAN’S BUDDIES Purpose: Provide people with disabilities the opportunity to learn and grow in their Christian faith through a loving and nurturing environment adapted to accommodate their special needs. Duties: Be with the children during Bryan’s Buddies respite care events and provide a safe, fun environment. Time Requirements: 2-3 hours one Friday per month. Skills Needed: A willing and understanding heart. 18 years of age or older. Training will be provided. Safe Sanctuary training.

42 HELPING HANDS – SS BUDDIES Purpose: Provide people with disabilities the opportunity to learn and grow in their Christian faith through a loving and nurturing environment adapted to accommodate their special needs. Duties: Be with a designated child during Sunday School and assist him/her with anything they may need. Time Requirements: One hour per Sunday per month. Skills Needed: A willing and understanding heart. 18 years of age or older. Training will be provided. Safe Sanctuary training.

43 HERITAGE CHILDREN'S MINISTRY Purpose: To enlighten both the children and yourself as you both grow with the teachings. Duties: Serve as teachers on Sunday mornings to the children of the Heritage Campus. Time Requirements: This requires 1 hour per week on the weeks that you signup to teach. Also there will be training provided to teach the curriculum. Skills: Love working with children. Safe Sanctuary training is required.

44 HERITAGE WEDNESDAY NIGHT CHILDREN'S TIME Purpose: To minister to the children of the Heritage campus on Wednesday nights while making young disciples. Duties: Preparing the lesson for that week through stories, games, and crafts. Time Requirements: 1 ½ to 2 hours on Wednesday evening. Skills: Love working with children. Safe sanctuary training is required.

45 NURSERY WELCOME TEAM Purpose: To make new families to the church feel welcome and to welcome new babies to the congregation. Duties: Welcome and direct new families on Special Event Sundays, help plan and implement Blessing of the Babies. Time Requirements: Varies. Skills Needed: Safe Sanctuary training, member of FUMCG, 18 years old or older.

46 SPECIAL EVENTS VOLUNTEERS Purpose: Help children grow in Christian community through fellowship and to emphasize special events in the church calendar. Duties: Plan and put on events for groups; supplies provided. Children’s minister provides guidance and help as needed. Time Requirements: 2-3 hours on day of event, plus planning; prep as needed 30-90 days in advance, depending on the event. Skills Needed: Willingness to work with children and a team of adults. Safe Sanctuary training.

47 SUNDAY SCHOOL—SUNDAY MORNING COORDINATOR Purpose: To provide assistance to the Sunday School classes and make children and parents feel welcome. Duties: Greet and register new children and get them to their class. Monitor the hallways to see that everyone gets to their respective classes. Collect offerings and take them to the church office. Monitor children to see that they all have nametags and are checked in. Time Requirements: 1-1½ hours (during the Sunday School hour) once a month, 9:45 to 11:00 AM. 1 year commitment (January-December) Skills Needed: Have friendly attitude toward children and adults. Safe Sanctuary training.

48 SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER Purpose: Help young children to experience and share God’s love. Duties: Prepare and teach a lesson in teams of two or more adults using the supplies and curriculum provided. Develop a nurturing relationship with the children and group. Verify that children are checked in and have name tags. Time Requirements: 30 minutes to 1 hour per week for lesson preparation, plus 1 hour on your designated Sundays to teach, 9:45 to 11:00 AM. One orientation meeting each fall and spring. Fall/Winter/Spring commitment is September through May. Summer commitment is June to August. Skills Needed: Desire to work with children and a team of adults. Safe Sanctuary training.

49 SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER— SUBSTITUTE Purpose: Fill in for Sunday School teachers when they are unable to teach on their scheduled Sundays. Help kids experience and share God’s love. Duties: On your Sunday, check in at Sunday School Coordinator table at 9:45 AM to see if substitutes are needed. If a substitute is needed, report to the class assigned by the Coordinator and co-teach that day's lesson with teaching partner. If no substitutes are needed, you are free to go. On a rotating schedule based on how many volunteers there are. Time Requirements: One hour of Sunday School class time per four weeks as needed. One year commitment (September-August). Skills Needed: Ability to interact with children. Safe Sanctuary training.

50 TWEENS MISSION TRIP SPONSOR Purpose: To work alongside our tweens (4th/5th grade) on a summer mission trip. Duties: Go on the mission trip and be a work team leader and assist in evening worship/activities. Drive a van with your work team (2 adults per team) from the church to the mission trip location and then during the week to your worksite. If you are a young adult volunteer, you will assist your co-leader during the week on the worksite and the evening worship/activities. Time Requirements: Attend the pre-trip meeting (approx. 1 hour) and then the trip one week during the summer. Skills Needed: To drive a van, you must be 25 years of age or older. 51 VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL – CRAFTS COORDINATOR Purpose: Teach Bible lesson through hands-on experience. Duties: Review craft lessons from curriculum; make adaptations as needed, draw up supply list, recruit craft helpers as needed; lead craft activity station during VBS. Time Requirements: As needed the week before VBS, periodic meetings in the 90 days prior to VBS, VBS week (6/24-28). Skills Needed: Safe Sanctuary training; ability to work with children’s crafts; ability to work with craft teaching team.

52 VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL -

Time Requirements: Wednesday evenings, 5:30 PM pick-up and 7:00 PM departure to return children home. Skills: Must be a licensed driver, 25 years of age or older with a clean driving record and insurance. Ability to drive a 15-passenger van. Safe Sanctuaries training required.

66 CHOIR ROOM VOLUNTEER Purpose: To perform weekly music preparation for choir rehearsals and restore order in the music rooms after Sunday worship services. Duties: Straightening the choir room. Filing music that was performed on Sunday. Straighten the stoles on the robes. Pick up hymn copies from the church front office. Put copies in the music folders and put folders on chairs for Wednesday night rehearsals. Time Requirements: 2 hours per week, which may be broken out to one hour on Mondays and one hour on Wednesdays or combined on Wednesday afternoons. Skills Needed: Willingness to serve. Organizational skills helpful.

67 FIRST CHURCH CHORALE Purpose: To lead worship and provide special music at the 10:10 AM service located in the main sanctuary. Duties: Attend rehearsals every Sunday morning from 9-10 AM prior to singing for the 10:10 service. Time Requirements: 2-3 hours per week. Skills Needed: Willingness to participate regularly at rehearsals and the 10:10 worship. Ability to learn music quickly, whether or not you have music reading ability. 82 ALTAR GUILD - FOUNDERS CHAPEL Purpose: To prepare for communion services. Duties: Check the Altar candles to be sure they have plenty of wax. Bring 2 loaves of bread on your Sunday, pour the juice and prepare the altar for communion. Clean up the altar after the service and leave unused loaf for the Spanish service. Take the dirty napkins home to wash. Instructions provided. Time Requirements: One Sunday a month or as a substitute. Arrive about 15-20 prior to service to prepare the altar and stay after service to clean up the altar. Skills Needed: To be able to perform all the tasks stated above.

83 ALTAR GUILD - SANCTUARY Purpose: To prepare for communion services in the Sanctuaries of the Downtown or Heritage Campus. Duties: Fill cups with juice. Prepare table in sanctuary for service. Clean-up, wash and dry trays. Refill trays with clean cups for next service. Wipe Communion rails. Time Requirements: 1st Sunday each month - 1 church service (your choice). Approximately 15 to 20 minutes before and after each service (except after the 11:15 service at the Downtown Campus, which requires about 45 minutes to get everything back in place in the Sacristy). Each person can choose which month to serve on a rotating basis. Skills Needed: Ability to maneuver the steps from the Sacristy to the communion table with filled trays. Enjoy working with 3 to 4 people in a quick, efficient, manner.

84 COMMUNION SERVER Purpose: To share God’s love by serving worshippers communion once a month in one of our worship services. Duties: Serve communion during worship. Time Requirements: Approximately 20 minutes per month, this is scheduled according to your availability each month. Normally, communion is on the first Sunday of each month. You may be invited to serve communion at other seasonal services such as Christmas Eve or Easter season services. Skills Needed: Willing heart and be physically able to walk, bend over to serve and manage communion trays.

85 PEW BACK TEAM Purpose: To prepare the Sanctuary and Founders Chapel for Sunday morning services. Duties: Walk pew to pew and remove trash. Make sure books and informational cards are in their proper place and straightened. Restock and straighten any items that are needed and notify office of supply needs. Time Requirements: Team of 2-4 people work 1-2 hours per week, once a month. This work can be performed at any time during the week when the church is open. Skills Needed: No special qualifications or skills needed.

86 SEASONAL DECORATING Purpose: To beautify our churches as seasons change. Duties: Provide help decorating the sanctuaries and surrounding areas. Time Requirements: 3-4 hours on a seasonal basis. Skills Needed: No requirements necessary although interior design experience is a bonus.

87 GREETER - DOWNTOWN Purpose: To share in the ministry of hospitality by welcoming members and guests to worship services. Duties: Arrive and be in place 20 minutes before worship begins and stay 15-20 minutes after. Greet as many people who have come to attend worship as possible. Direct known first-time visitors to an Usher. Greeters may greet at more than one service each Sunday, or during the month. Time Requirements: 1-1½ hours a month. Skills Needed: Cheerful, friendly disposition and ability to communicate to strangers.

88 GREETER - HERITAGE Purpose: This welcoming Ministry consists of teams that help make guests feel welcome. Duties: The Greeters are responsible for meeting people at the front door with the warmth and love of our faith. Bulletins are handed to the guests and directions provided to classrooms, nursery or facilities. Time Requirements: 30 minutes before service. Skills: Familiar with the layout of the church and have a friendly personality.

89 SEASONAL PARKING ATTENDANT Purpose: Welcome visitors on special Sundays and guide them to empty parking spaces. Duties: Arrive 45 minutes before worship begins on Easter Sunday, Christmas Eve, etc. Direct cars to open parking. Watch for visitors and direct them to nursery and/or the location of the Sanctuary or Chapel as needed. Time Requirements: 1-4 hours, 2 or 3 times per year Skills Needed: Friendly disposition, ability to communicate to strangers.

90 USHER - DOWNTOWN Purpose: To share the ministry of hospitality by serving as an usher. Duties: Arrive 20 minutes before worship begins. Hand out worship bulletins to those entering the sanctuary for morning worship. Assist guests with seating. Assist late arrivers to vacant seats. Collect the offering. Assist the Head Usher in bagging registration forms and offering in official secure location. Ushers may serve more than one service a Sunday, or more than once a month. 91 HEAD USHER (DOWNTOWN) Purpose: To lead the Welcome Ministry Team volunteers (Greeters, Ushers and Welcome Center volunteers) for a particular Sunday morning Worship Service. Duties: Provide consistent leadership to the members of a specific Welcome Ministry Team (Greeters, Ushers and Welcome Center volunteers) who are assigned to a particular service. Assist Team members in finding replacements if unable to serve. Bag and place registration forms and offering in official secure location with assistance from another team member. Time Requirements: 2-3 hours a month; includes actual service and phone or email communications. Skills Needed: Management, scheduling and communication skills. 92 USHER - HERITAGE Purpose: To share the ministry of hospitality by serving as an usher. Duties: Usher people in and out of the sanctuary, prompt the acolytes, collect the offering and prepare for the next service. Time Requirements: 10 minutes before service, 10 minutes after service. Skills: Friendly personality, familiar with acolyte materials, familiar with collection procedure and church set-up.

93 WELCOME CENTER HOST (DOWNTOWN) Purpose: To share in the ministry of hospitality by providing information to worshippers on Sunday mornings before and after all worship services. Duties: Answer questions about basic church activities and class locations (brochures and maps provided). Hand out gift bags from the Welcome Booth in the foyer to first-time guests/visitors. 96 GALA & AUCTION TEAM Purpose: To plan and stage the annual church Gala and Auction which helps fund major missions in our church. Duties: Meet together to determine a theme, venue and missions which will receive our financial support. Collect items for the Silent, Big Board and Live Auctions. Time Requirements: Monthly meeting for planning and many fun hours collecting items and cataloguing them. Setting up the day of the event and follow-up, thanking donors. 97 NEW HORIZON Purpose: This senior group hosts a bimonthly social on the 4th Tuesday evening of every-other month, from September through May, for members and the community. Duties: Help with New Horizon gatherings by calling for reservations and/or decorating tables. Time Requirements: Varies. Skills Needed: People who like to call others for reservations and table centerpiece decorators.

98 PILATES Purpose: To stay fit and fellowship with other women. Duties: Work-out group meets weekly in Room 2001 (time and day to be announced). $5 per session pays for certified instructor. 99 SOFTBALL - MEN OR CO-ED Purpose: Fellowship with others in our church & Grapevine Adult Softball League. 107 CANCER SURVIVOR SUPPORT GROUP Purpose: To provide a forum in which survivors can share experiences with others in a confidential social environment. Duties: Offer one-on-one and group support for those undergoing treatment and those impacted by a cancer diagnosis. Time Requirements: Varies. 111 LAY CHAPLAIN TEAM Purpose: To work in partnership with our pastors by assisting in visitation of church members and others who are patients in area (D/FW) hospitals. Duties: Make assigned pre & post surgery visits, hospital room visits, and follow up visits. Time Requirements: Initial Training: Attend 4-6 hours of training led by one of our pastors. Care Giving: 2-3 hours a day, 1-2 days a week, based on availability of the volunteer. Continuing Ed: 1 hour, 2-3 times a year. Skills Needed: Must have a heart for pastoral care, and willing to develop appropriate/approved skills. Must be comfortable in a hospital setting. Must be able to present oneself in a professional manner, and be able to maintain strict confidentiality according to national, state and United Methodist Church laws, rules and regulations.

112 PRAYER MINISTRY TEAM COORDINATOR Purpose: Coordinate the efforts of the Prayer Ministry Team as it responds to the needs of the congregation. Duties: Schedule and lead monthly Prayer Ministry meetings and organize church participation in the annual National Day of Prayer. Time Requirements: Varies, but averages about 1 to 1 ½ hours per week. Skills Needed: E-mail access, light organizational skills, as well as a dedication to caring about others through prayer.

113 PRAYER MINISTRY TEAM Purpose: To pray regularly for the needs of the congregation and for the individual prayer requests received by the church or the team members. Duties: Pray for prayer requests provided to you through the church. Attend monthly prayer team gatherings if your schedule allows. Time Requirements: Varies. Skills Needed: A dedication to caring about others and a willingness to pray for them on a regular basis.

114 STEPHEN MINISTRY Purpose: Provide one-on-one Christian care to the bereaved, hospitalized, terminally ill, divorced, unemployed and others facing a crisis or challenge. Duties: Submit formal application; interview with Stephen Ministry Leader Team; meet with assigned care receiver for one hour a week until care no longer needed; attend supervision and continuing education meetings two times a month; must keep strictest confidence. Time Requirements: Attend 50 hours of training (20 meetings – 2½ hours each, starting in September of each year). Care giving – 1 hour a week to assigned care receiver. Supervision / Continuing Ed. – 2 meetings a month (5 hours total). Two-year commitment (after completion of training). Skills Needed: Ability to devote all time required. 115 VISITING ANGELS TEAM Purpose: Keep in touch with persons who cannot attend church, whether temporarily or permanently. Duties: Contact designated person by phone or visit at least once a month. Provide devotional materials or tapes of worship services, as requested, which are provided by the church. Time Requirements: 2-3 hours/month; team members schedule their own time. 116 MINISTRY MILE INVITATION TEAM Purpose: To strategize ways to invite and include the residents of our Ministry Mile in our church’s ministries. Duties: Be a part of a team that invites our neighbors to worship and to participate in different church ministries. In the past this has included door hanger blitz events, distributing flyers in the community and placing posters in strategic locations. Time Requirements: Flexible; varies according to season and your availability. Skills Needed: Advertising/marketing knowledge is a plus; spirit of invitation and willingness to strategize with other team members about creative, grassroots methods for inviting.

117 PARKING LOT HOSPITALITY TEAM Purpose: To be invitational and hospitable when our campus parking lots are used for outside events. Duties: Gather periodically to welcome school children and parents who park on the Heritage Campus lots, distribute snacks and invite them to worship with us. Put invitations on cars at the Downtown Campus during Grapefest, Main Street Days, Christmas Parade and other city sponsored events. Pass out free water and hot chocolate as a way of saying "welcome" to people who park in our lots. Time Requirements: 1-2 hours per event, according to your availability. 126 BLANKETS OF HOPE

Purpose: To provide handmade blankets to adults, ages 18 to 80, admitted to local rehabilitation facilities for substance abuse treatment. Each blanket will be cut and sewn with thought and prayer for the recipient, providing a symbol of Christian love and support in what often seems like a hopeless situation. Duties: Provide fleece fabric and/or make blankets according to directions provided. Time Requirements: Flexible, as needed. Skills Needed: Volunteers that will be sewing must have their own sewing machine and ability to do simple, basic stitches. Other volunteers need no special skills. We believe the most important step in making these blankets is the love and prayer that go into each one.

Purpose: Plan the quarterly blood drive. Duties: Coordinate with Carter Blood Care in setting blood drive dates and submit to the church office for calendaring and room reservation/setup. Work with Carter for whatever needs they have to prepare for the event. Provide information to the church office in order to advertise the event and allow people to sign up for the drive. On the day of the event, confirm final room setup, greet and direct Carter team. Time Requirements: 2-3 hours per drive, 4 times per year. Skills Needed: Organizational skills. Ability to work with church staff and Carter Blood Care staff.

128 BLOOD DRIVE DONOR Purpose: Provide needed blood to Carter Blood Care. Duties: Participate in the church blood drive, which occurs quarterly. Sign up prior to each Blood Drive on Check-In, online, or by contacting the church office. Time Requirements: 45 minutes per drive. Skills Needed: 18 years of age or older.

129 CHIP/MEDICAID TEAM Purpose: To aid families in obtaining affordable healthcare for their children. Duties: Assist families with completing the necessary paperwork to qualify for CHIP or Medicaid benefits. Time Requirement: Varies; flexible. 130 CONNECT Purpose: To coordinate the acquisition and distribution of resources between providers and economically disadvantaged students within GCISD. 131 COSTA RICA MISSION TRIP Purpose: To share God’s love with those beyond our church community by traveling to Costa Rica and providing assistance through holding Vacation Bible School for children, construction, and creating a computer lab at the Methodist Church in Las Juntas, Costa Rica. Duties: Provide help through construction, medical or educational programs. Time Requirements: Approximately one week for the trip. Cost: Approximate cost of $1,500 per person. This includes airfare, lodging, meals and transportation while in Costa Rica. Skills Needed: General construction, computer expertise, desire to work with children OR willingness to serve others. Spanish language skills are not required but are very helpful.

132 ESL TEACHERS Purpose: To teach, co-teach or substitute teach basic skills in English as a Second Language with the goal of aiding communication. Duties: Work with other ESL teachers to plan and facilitate a risk-free learning environment. Time Requirements: 1 hour per week, plus prep time. Skill Needed: Willingness to serve others.

133 FEED OUR KIDS Purpose: To provide lunch and love to children in our community through GRACE’s Feed Our Kids Program. Duties: Plan for and shop for lunches, prepare lunches at the church, prepare games/activities or books, or deliver lunches and play with the children at their apartments/trailers. Time Requirements: One week during the summer (date to be determined) ; 1 hour (Church) to prepare lunches, 1 hour (complexes) to serve lunches, read, do crafts and/or play. If licensed, help with urgent plumbing or electrical work. Help move large or heavy items. Time Requirements: 1-2+ hours occasionally when you are available. 141 JUSTICE FOR OUR NEIGHBORS Purpose: Minister to people who come to JFON for legal assistance with immigration issues. Office hours are Monday-Thursday, 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Skills Needed: Clerical skills for the office; a heart for helping others; speaking Spanish is a plus but not required.

142 KAIROS PRISON MINISTRY Purpose: To bring Christ’s love and forgiveness to all incarcerated individuals, their families and those who work with them. To assist in the prisoner's transition to becoming a productive citizen. Duties: Volunteers are needed throughout the year to provide service through participation in Kairos weekends, prayers, baking cookies, and/or financial support. Time Requirements: Varies according to availability and level of service. Skills Needed: Heart for compassion.

143 KENYA AIDS ORPHAN SPONSORS Purpose: Pay cost of education, pay cost of school uniform, provide food, provide medical care to God's children in Kenya whose parents are deceased or incapacitated by AIDS. These children are considered family within our church.

145 LOCAL MISSIONS PLANNERS Purpose: Be one of two planners who make it all come together for Spring into Missions and/or Fall into Missions (the morning we help our disabled or elderly neighbors with yard and home repair projects). Duties: Contact potential project recipients to identify projects, ensure publicity is done, assign volunteers and do overall project coordination. Procedures / guidelines are available. Time Requirements: Up to 10 hours per week for 4 to 6 weeks prior to the weekend (April and/or October; dates to be determined). Skills: Good organizational skills. Some experience working on youth or adult mission trips is helpful.

146 LOCAL MISSIONS WORK DAYS Purpose: To provide general maintenance and repair work on homes in the local community for those who are unable to do the work themselves due to health, age or financial difficulties. Duties: Perform lawn work, painting, general repair and maintenance, electrical or plumbing tasks for people within our community. Coordinators are also needed. Time Requirements: 3-4 hours on Saturday morning in April and/or October (exact dates to be determined). Skills Needed: Willingness to serve. Duties: Perform general home / yard repair and maintenance; help financially; coordinate; or be a "willing spirit" volunteer for multiple support tasks. Time Requirements: Flexible commitment level from 4 hours to multiple all-day weekends. Projects are every 2-4 months during the year. 157 THE SLAB HOMELESS MINISTRY Purpose: Serve breakfast and distribute clothing to the homeless of downtown Fort Worth on the third Sunday morning of each month. Duties: Serve the breakfast prepared by The SLAB’s staff to the homeless. Distribute clothing from the clothing closet. Collect used clothing and personal-size hygiene items to take to the SLAB. Carpooling to Church on the SLAB is usually available. Time Requirements: 3-4 hours/month. Skills Needed: Willingness to serve the homeless as brothers in Christ.

158 THE SLAB MINISTRY COORDINATOR Purpose: To coordinate between FUMCG and The SLAB ministry team to ensure our monthly responsibility to the homeless is fulfilled. Duties: Coordinate volunteers from Heritage and downtown campuses to serve at The SLAB. Ensure there is awareness of The SLAB’s needs and communicate them. Collect items from the Thrift Shop weekly and ensure donations are transported to The SLAB for the third Sunday service. 159 THRIFT SHOP VOLUNTEER Purpose: To provide low cost clothing and household items to the general public with proceeds going to support various ministries of our church and community. We also need people that can substitute periodically for volunteers. Skills Needed: Customer service, handling, organizing merchandise for sale. 160 WEEKEND FOOD Purpose: Provide children who are on free lunch in GCISD a supplemental bag of food to take home for the weekend. We currently serve over 900 children a week during the school year. Duties: You can help with this ministry in the following ways: school coordinator, pickup/deliver bulk food to church, bag individual food bags, deliver food to schools, donate food items (see web page for needs), financial donation. Time Requirements: 1-2 hours / week, depending on task. Skills Needed: Desire to help feed kids in need. If delivering to schools, must have time during school hours. 167 OFFICE VOLUNTEER Purpose: Assist the front office staff with general office duties. 168 PHOTOGRAPHER Purpose: Record church history by taking photos at events. Duties: Take photos at church events. Skills Needed: Photography skills (ability to capture smiling faces and activity in a way that clearly tells a story). Helpful if you own a digital camera, although you may use the church’s camera if needed.

169 SUNDAY OFFICE VOLUNTEER Purpose: Provide a “real person” on the other end of the phone line on Sunday mornings. Duties: Answer the office phone on Sunday mornings and answer general questions that the caller asks. 170 WRITERS Purpose: To write feature articles for the periodic e-zine. Tell stories about the church’s ministries and missions. Duties: Interview volunteers and recipients of ministry efforts to create a compelling story about a particular aspect of the church’s outreach. Write article(s) based on a deadline provided by the Communications Director. Time Requirements: Varies depending on the story. Our goal is to publish one e-zine each quarter. Skills: Excellent writing skills; ability to interview and glean pertinent information from people to tell a story.

171 VAN DRIVERS Purpose: Pick up people from various neighborhoods and bring them to worship, Bible study and other activities at the Downtown Campus. Duties: Pick up individuals from their homes, take them to the church, and return them home afterward. Rotate responsibility with other team members. Time Requirements: Sunday mornings, 9:00 AM pick-up and 12:30 PM return. Wednesday evenings, 5:30 PM pick-up and 7:00 PM return. Other times as needed. Times are approximate. Skills: Must be a licensed driver, 25 years of age or older with a clean driving record and insurance. Ability to drive a 15-passenger van. Safe Sanctuaries training required for pick-ups involving children or youth.

172 VIDEOGRAPHER

Purpose: Record church history by shooting video at events. Duties: Shoot video footage at church activities and events. Provide video in digital format to the Communications Director to be used on the church website and for future promotions. Time Requirements: 1-4 hours (or less) depending on the activity or event. Skills Needed: Videography skills (ability to capture usable footage with correct lighting and speed in a way that clearly tells a story). Helpful if you own a video camera.
