Amarjit Singh welcomed our keynote speaker R’ann Anupam Jain, Director, MMC Computers and Skill Foundation, Chandigarh and HARTRON Franchisee. She is the wife of Rtn. Rakesh Jain who is the owner of Nikka Mal Babu Ram Jewellers. R’ann Anupam Jain R’ann Anupam Jain who was introduced by R’ann Urmil Luther, is the Director of MMC Computers and Centre Head of HARTRON (a State Govt. Undertaking) approved workstations at Chandigarh and Panchkula. She has done MA Economics (Hons.) from Panjab University, Chandigarh and MBA (women entrepreneurship) from ISB (Hyderabad). For the last 25 years she is managing IT training and skill development centres. She has many awards and recognitions to her credit, including being facilitated by UNESCO Headquarters at France on May 23, 2016 by Ministry of Skill Development of India and Europe. She is also active social worker as member of Inner Wheel Club, Family Planning Association of India and other NGOs. In her audio visual presentation Anupam said, “Skilling India is the biggest challenge for India today.” Currently very small proportion of India has formal skill training. Not surprisingly several sectors of our economy face shortage of skilled workforce and at the same time large section of country’s youth are looking for better livelihood and employment opportunities, so there is a huge mismatch between current education and skill sets that industries and business needs. There is a huge gap between degree and knowledge which result in unemployment. So skill department has become a key priority area of our country. Govt. of India has put in lots of efforts in this direction by adding many skill department programs out of which PMKVY (Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna) plays an important role as it involves number of established training institutes as authenticated training partners. PMKVY is the flagship scheme of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). In four years (2016-2020) 10 million youth are expected to benefit with allocated budget of 12,000 Crores. The aim is to scale up skill training activities without compromising quality. Anupam explained, “World and India needs skilled man force. Earlier only IIT’ians got job opportunities abroad. But now India wants to exploit world’s needs of skilled manpower. This cannot be fulfilled by IIT’s alone, so we need more ITI’s rather than IIT’s.” Governor of Punjab visits our Rotary Sarai H.E. Singh Badnore, Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh visited our project Rotary Sarai Aasra at GMCH-32 on January 19, 2017. He appreciated the efforts of Rotary for providing accommodation and food at very subsidized rates. Mr. Parimal Rai, IAS, Advisor to Administrator UT, Chandigarh, Mr. Anurag Aggarwal, IAS, Home Secretary-cum-Secretary Health and Dr. Atul Sachdev, Director Principal of GMCH-32 were also present on this occasion. Our Club was represented by President Rtn. Amarjit Singh, PP Rtn. B.L. Ramsisaria, PP Rtn. D.P. Khandelia, PP Rtn. Prem Anand, PP Rtn. Deepak Sood, PE Rtn. Dr. Rita Kalra, PN Rtn. Ashok Puri and Secretary Rtn. Sundeep Sawhney. For skill training we need to target school and college dropout students who should be enrolled in vocational courses. Govt. has introduced skill courses in all sectors and people are actually being benefitted. In the presentation there is a message of Prime Minister Mr. Narinder Modi who says, “Skilling is building a better India. If we have to move India towards development then Skill Development should be our mission.” Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Mr. Rajiv Pratap Rudy says, “We are a youthful nation. Our youth are our strength. The world and India need a skilled work force.” Skilling is the biggest challenge for India at the moment. In this direction MSDE along with National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC) has developed a platform under which citizens of India will be motivated to develop their skills. In MMC Computers and Hartron approved workstation established since 1991, Mrs. Anupam Jain has trained 25000 students till date and all are placed very well in Govt. and private jobs. Out of this 5000 women candidates have been skilled free of cost from rural area in past 5 years and 3500 students have been skilled last year under various skill development schemes. PP Deepak Sood thanked R’ann Anupam Jain for her very interesting and useful presentation, which was followed by an interactive discussion with Rotarians, and there was a strong feeling that we need her active support in our club’s skill development programs.

H.E. Mr. V.P. Singh Badnore, Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh visited our project Rotary Sarai Aasra at GMCH-32 on January 19, 2017. Projects Budget

Rtn. Sanjay Bhatia presents the budget

Treasurer Rtn. Sanjay Bhatia presented the Projects Budget in our regular meeting. This had earlier been circulated amongst the Board Members and subsequently circulated amongst all members by email. Sanjay gave summary of budget expenses under different avenues of service and corresponding sources of funds. The budget for the year stands approved by the house.

Sanjay thanked all members and Board for their patience and cooperation and expressed gratitude to PP Rtn. B.L. Ramsisaria from whom there is no end to learning.

WinS program

In our endeavor to Rotary India’s WinS Program on January 20, 2017 our club handed over a Hand Wash Station to Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Manimajra Housing Complex, U.T. Chandigarh. School Management lauded the efforts being made by Rotary towards health and hygiene.

RI Theme 2017-18

Rotary International President elect Ian H.S. Riseley, a member of the Rotary Club of Sandringham, Victoria, Australia, announced the 2017-2018 RI theme, Rotary: Making a Difference, at the International Assembly in San Diego, California, USA, on January 16, 2017.

Whether we are building a new playground or a new school, improving medical care or sanitation, training conflict mediators or midwives, we know that the work we do will change people’s lives — in ways large and small — for the better. Whatever motivation each of us had for joining Rotary, it is the satisfaction we find in Rotary that causes us to remain, the satisfaction of knowing that week by week, year by year, we are part of Rotary: Making a Difference.

Awareness of rights under PWD Act

On 21st January 2017 a legal advise session was carried out by Vice President Rtn. Salil Bali to the disabled employees of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh at Shri Amb Sahib Gurudwara, Mohali. They were made aware of their legal rights under the

Persons with Disability Act and other various Service rules governing them. This session was attended by number of disabled persons with Mr. Harmesh being the chief coordinator who is very active in our Rotary Community Corps of Dadumajra.

Disabled persons who are self empowered, encounter some legal issues in their day to day life, and initiative taken Rtn. Salil Bali is expected to bring justice for these special persons.

New RCC at village Maloya

Our club had formed a new Rotary Community Corps on 18th January 2017 at Maloya village. This event was attended by Guest Farmila, a newly elected Councilor of Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, President Mr. Bejinder Kumar along with other RCC members and girls students of our literacy centre. Our Club was represented by President Amarjit Singh, PP Vinod Jawa and Rtn Ashok Puri, DCmS. President Amarjit explained the purpose of RCC and other details of Rotary. President of RCC gave his action plan of works/projects. Ms Aarti, a teacher and member RCC gave vote of thanks and lauded the efforts of Rotary to serve the community for the betterment of village Maloya.
