Kings Highway Christian
Volume XXXVII Number 42 November 5, 2013
From the Minister. . . . .
I was deeply saddened to hear the news of Rev. Bob Allen’s
sudden
passing. He and his wife Karen served
our congregation on two separate occa-
sions over the years. I had the pleasure
of meeting Bob at the end of his second
term as interim minister here at KHCC.
Shortly after my family and I moved to
Shreveport he came by my house to
welcome me and pass on the church cell
phone. He also took the time during our
visit to sing the praises of Kings
Highway Christian Church and tell me
how much he and Karen had enjoyed
both of the interims they served here. By
the end of our visit I was feeling particu-
larly encouraged and was even more
excited about my first day as your
minister.
In the last eight years Bob and
Karen have visited our church several
times. Our church was blessed to have
him fill the pulpit on more than one
occasion while I was out of town, and he
was one of the ministers who presided at
the funeral of Rev. Dave Farmer six
years ago. With all of this, I still didn’t
have the chance to get to know Bob as
well as I would have liked and I envy
those of you who were here during his
time of service and had the chance to
experience his ministry.
Please keep his wife Karen and his daughter Kirsten in your
prayers in the
days and weeks ahead. Services for Bob
will be this Wednesday, Nov. 6th in
Arizona. Karen and Kirsten have re-
quested that instead of flowers, donations
be made to the Susan G. Komen Founda-
tion (you may contact the church office
for details).
Many times during Bob’s years in
ministry he read the following verses in his
booming voice; I can almost hear him.
“I have fought the good fight, I have
finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Henceforth there is laid up for me the
crown of righteousness, which the Lord
will award to me on that day, and not only
to me, but also to all who have loved the
Lord.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8
In faith,
David

KHCC STEWARDSHIP
ISN’T IT STRANGE?
Isn’t it strange how a $100 dollar bill seems like such a large
amount when you donate it to the church, but such a small amount
when you go shopping?
Isn’t it strange how endless an hour seems when we are serving
God, but how short it is when we watch a Football game for 60
minutes?
Isn’t it strange how 2 hours seem so long when you’re at the
church and how short they seem when you’re watching a good
movie?
Isn’t it strange that you can’t find things to say when you’re
praying, but you have no trouble on thinking what to talk about
with a friend?
Isn’t it strange how difficult and boring it can be to read one
chapter of the Bible but how easy it is to read 100 pages of a
popular novel?
Isn’t it strange how difficult it is to learn a fact about God
to share it with others, but how easy it is to learn, understand,
extend and repeat gossip?
Isn’t it strange how we believe everything that magazines and
newspapers say, but we question the words in the Bible?
Isn’t it strange how everyone wants a place in heaven, but they
don’t want to believe, do, or say anything to get there?
Isn’t it strange how we send jokes in e-mails and they are
forwarded right away, but when we are going to send messages about
God, we think about it twice before we share it with others?
IT’S STRANGE ISN’T IT? Are you laughing?
Are you thinking about it? Spread the word, and thank God,
because he loves you.

“SAVE THE DATE”
“On the street I saw a girl cold
and shivering in a thin dress,
with little hope of a decent meal.
I became angry and said to
God: ‘Why did you permit this?
Why don’t you do something
about it?’ For a while God said
nothing. That night He replied
quite suddenly: “I certainly
did something about it.
I made you.’”
