Strand was U.S. Poet Laureate from 1990-91 and win-

    Advent

As we return from the Thanksgiving holiday with much to do before the end of the semester, Univer-sity Ministry invites you to enter into the season of Advent. Advent, from the Latin adventus which means “arrival,” is a Christian tradition intended to help us prepare for the coming of Christ into the world. It stretches across the four weeks prior to Christmas and is designed to foster a greater sense of expectation, longing and hope. As it can also help us

slow down, pay attention and be mind-ful of how God wants to enter into our lives, Advent comes at just the right time. In order to help us move into the season, University Ministry has created a web page that contains the readings of the day along with a very brief re-flection composed by a USD communi-ty member. We hope you will visit www.sandiego.edu/advent for a few moments each day to be inspired by the wisdom of students, faculty, staff and alumni. Also, please join us for any or all of the following Advent events and USD traditions:

The event will give an overview of op-portunities offered by Semester at Sea including voyages, courses, financial aid and shipboard life. The event will in-clude a presentation, a chance to speak with key shipboard community mem-bers, and a tour of our living and learn-ing community aboard the MV Explor-er. Open ships are a fantastic way to see and experience first hand the Semester at Sea program. Don’t miss the chance to come to this Open Ship event and learn about the value of a truly global education. We look forward to welcom-ing you to our campus! Registration deadline is December 29, 2014 (must pre-register per Port Authority/Customs). More info & registration form at: http://www.semesteratsea.org/event/open-ship-san-diego-ca/.
