Michael Stephens was a middle school band director for six years prior to attending Kent State University for his Masters studies. After completing his doctoral work at the University of Pittsburgh, Stephens joined the faculty at Chadron State Col- lege in 2007. His compositions have been performed by the Pitts- burgh Symphony Orchestra, the Ion Sound Project, David Rus- sell, Diba Alvi, and his own jazz fusion group, Osmosis. Ste- phens performed with numerous jazz, rock, and popular music groups in Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania, and Osmosis opened for Spyro Gyra, Chuck Mangione, and Blood, Sweat, and Tears. Stephens also performed back- ing jazz greats Clark Terry, Bill Dobbins, and Marian McPartland. The Band will play full band arrangements as well as songs that will demonstrate the different instruments that students may choose to play when they join the Be- ginning Band program in the fall. The section feature songs include: “Flute Fancy”, “Clarinet Boogie”, “Saxophones on the Run”, “Slide Advantage”, “Bugler’s Holiday”, and “Madcap Mallet Mania”. The concerts will be held on Tuesday, May 1st from 9:00 - 9:30 a.m. and on Wednes- day, May 2nd from 8:45-9:15 a.m. in the BMS Cafetorium. Parents are also invited to attend.
