Over $100,000 at Charmayne James EquiGames Race The Cash Payout for the Thunder EquiGames Open Barrel Race, presented by Charmayne James, has risen from $40,000 last year to over $100,000 this year, not including the prizes. The payback is 125% of the total entry fees at this point. As is, 57% of the racers will receive a check. The race has recently undergone a payoff change. After some subtle urgings from contestants, Denny and Charmayne agreed that the average payoff was out of balance with $50K to fi rst place. Thus, earlier this week they asked if the contestants wanted to stay with a front-loaded race, or to take the actual added money and do a regular added-money distribution. The response was overwhelm-ingly in the favor of the regular added-money, with 1st place still paying at least $20,000. So yes, the Open Barrel Race will do a normal payoff calculation with the $41,000 added. Also there is a reduced late fee of $100 to encourage more entries and get more money into the pot. Also, there are no late fees for those adding a second horse if you are already entered. All entries that come in from this point forward will be added to the average. With enough new entries, 1st place may get up to over $25,000 with standard payback. To see the updated payout information and contestant list, visit www.equigames.com.

Mental Mastery With Tammy Fischer and Jymmy Kay Davis Want to conquer your barrel racing fears? Need help staying moti-vated when barrel racing seems more like a battle than a blast? Want to fi nd that elusive “zone” where things just keep going your way? Join Barrelracingbuzz.com for an uplifting and defi ning lecture on mastering the mental aspects of barrel racing with Jymmy Kay Davis and Tammy Fischer on Sunday morning, November 22 at 9:30 a.m. in the Dodge Pavilion Arena, Waco, TX. Both ladies have endured daunting personal tragedies, yet the two have maintained their presence in the 1D at some of the toughest barrel races in the country. A multiple Texas Circuit Finals qualifi er and former president of the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association, Jymmy Kay did what many thought was impossible. Her fi ght to save the identity of the oldest women’s professional sporting organization in the United States came at a high personal price. Though “World Champion” and “National Finals Rodeo qualifi er” may not grace her resume...yet, it was through her leadership that the present generation of barrel racers might obtain those very titles under the WPRA’s ban-ner. No matter what odds were against her, Jymmy Kay never lost

her positive attitude. Nor did she let the outside world affect her performance in the arena. Multiple National Finals Rodeo qualifi er and aged event cham-pion Tammy Fischer is by far one of the coolest customers going down the road when it comes to mental toughness. Having endured what no parent ever should, Tammy has persevered when a weaker individual may have crumbled. Tammy’s hard-charging style belays her dauntless character. The tribulations of injured horses, broken down vehicles and personal tragedy have forged a champion that will forever be in our hearts.

2004 Racing World Champion Be A Bono Retires to Kentucky Be A Bono earned American Quarter Horse racing’s top honor when he was named the World Champion of 2004. He also earned champion 3-year-old and champion 3-year-old gelding honors for 2004. Owned and bred by the late Spencer Childers of Fresno, Califor-nia, the sorrel gelding was trained by Dan Francisco. Be A Bono was foaled February 22, 2001, and retired from racing as a 7-year-old. A true homebred, Be A Bono was the result of Childers’ breeding program that has spanned more than six decades. The gelding was sired by Childers’ homebred Bono Jazz and out of his homebred Be Peacefull, a Raise A Secret mare who has produced two stakes winners and a stakes-placed runner. “AQHA is proud to have a true World Champion join the Ken-tucky Horse Park Hall of Champions,” said AQHA Executive Vice President Don Treadway Jr. “As American Quarter Horses compete at the 2010 World Equestrian Games at the Kentucky Horse Park, Be A Bono will be a great ambassador for the breed. I’d like to thank Vince Genco for making Be A Bono’s transfer to Kentucky possible.” Be A Bono is the fi rst world champion sired by Bono Jazz. The blaze-faced gelding fi nished his career with 14 wins in 26 starts and earned more than $1.3 million. In his fi nal start, Be A Bono fi n-
ished in a deadheat for the win in an allowance race December 22, 2007, and left the sport as the 19th-richest American Quarter Horse of all time. Be A Bono is the only horse to fi nish second twice in the Cham-pion of Champions -- losing both races by a nose. Childers’ homebred won the fi rst seven races of his career. His big victories included consecutive renewals of the Vessels Maturity (G1), the Golden State Futurity (G1), the Los Alamitos Winter Derby (G1), the Los Alamitos Super Derby (G1) and three consecutive wins in the race named after his owner-breeder -- the Spencer Childers California Breeders Championship Handicap (RG1). Headin’ For HomeHeadin’ For Home By Mike MorrisonBy Mike Morrison Triple M (Mike Morrison Ministries) Triple M (Mike Morrison Ministries)
Do you ever have days when everything seems to go wrong and nothing seems to be right? There is even a saying and a song that says, “Some days are diamonds and some days
are stones.” You might say, “How can I have a thankful attitude today when my horse went lame, the water pump quit and we won’t have any water until I get a new one. The alternator went out of my pickup and it’s sitting by the side of the road, my trailer needs new tires and my youngest son needs braces on his teeth!” Yeah, some times things come in bunches. The thing to remem-ber is not to lose heart. Take a deep breath, put a prayer on your lips and tackle the problems. Jesus said He’d never leave you nor forsake you. He said in this world we would have trials and problems but to cheer up because He has overcome the world. (John 16:33) He tells us to have peace and trust in Him and He will see us through. God can open doors for us and make things happen that we never imagine.
Scripture tells us to be thankful at all times in Ephesians 5:20 and First Thessalonians 5:18. It might seem hard at fi rst but you can always fi nd something to be thankful for even if it’s everyday things like food on your table, a roof over your head, your family, living in a free country and so on. Or, you can be like the man who said he knew how to cheer himself up and give thanks when he was having a bad day. He said he just looked in the mirror and thanked God that wrinkles don’t hurt!! So don’t say you have nothing to be thankful for. Some of us have more wrinkles than others do so I guess you could say, even during a hard time, some of us have more to be thankful for!
