We have tracked down many of the big rodeo winners (and their horses!) throughout the different regions of the country. Thirteen pedigrees for you to pe- ruse through and compare you’re champion to! It was an exciting 4th of July and it brought with it an interesting mix of new and old horses and people. Earning the most money over the weekend was Brittany Pharr, which comes as no surprise to any- one following rodeo over the last few years, but one thing to notice is her winnings in Ponoka came on one of her younger horses, Yeah Hes Firen. She also hauled her young- er palamino mare, French Covergirl, around Oregon for a couple of the rodeos (Eugene & Molalla) but of course won a bunch on the great Sixth Vision. She rode “Stitch” at the remainder of her fourth rodeos. Lindsay Sears pulled into the second hole over the 4th on her great mare Sugar Moon Express (Martha). After last year that was sure no shocker. A couple of new faces down the list were Shelley Morgan and her horse My Playboy Champ who won almost $17k together and Jill Miller and her great horse Willie B Rockin who is only a 6 year old. Jill & Willie B Rocking won almost $12k and along the way set an arena record at Cody, WY, which is the biggest one run rodeo of the fourth and one of the biggest one runs of the year! The equine stars of the fourth come from the race track and the ranch as well as great barrel racing programs. For instance, there are two Dash Ta Fames featured, two Cash Not Credits, a Sunfrost, Frenchmans Guy, Alive N Firen, Streakin Six, Dr Nick Bar and along with these there are colts by Doc Quixote, Especial, and Docs Lil Playboy. Congratulations to Diann Bukowski’s and her 14 year old gelding, Adobe Quixote Bar. He was supposed to be a versatility ranch horse but at 10 years old he picked up the barrel pattern and this Doc Bar, cutting bred horse won Livingston. Also, Jessica Routier’s mare, Especials Smoothie, that she won the Mandan, ND rodeo on is out of a mare called Docs Lil Smoothie. This same mare is the dam of the sire, Docs Lil Playboy, who happens to be the sire of Shelley Morgan’s horse, My Playboy Champ. That may be a mare to keep an eye on in a pedigree! There is also a flurry of past futurity horses which made their mark in the futu- rity world and are now lighting up the rodeo scene. They include Frenchmans Jester (Jor- don Peterson), RF Firefly (Kelli Tolbert), Yeah Hes Firen (Brittany Pharr), and Willie B Rockin (Jill Miller) just to name a few. The horses are bred a variety of ways, but I think it can be ascertained all the horses have high quality genetic influence very close up in their pedigrees. IN THE NEWS.......IN THE NEWS......in the news......In the News......In the News.....Broken Bones and Break Neck Speeds at Ponoka Stampede CALGARY, ALTA. – A broken leg wasn’t going to hold Lindsay Sears back. The Nanton, Alta. cowgirl, who fractured the fi bula in her left leg in High River two weeks ago, got a mold fi tted for the leg, brought her championship barrel horse Martha up from Texas, and proceeded to win the fi rst go-round in the ladies barrel racing at the Ponoka Stampede. Her time of 16.93 seconds is thought to be the fastest weave around the barrels in the event’s 73 years. She placed fourth in the fi nals, but wowed the crowd with an impressive fi rst place time in the showdown. Sears also placed fi rst in the aggregate, picking up nearly $17,000 for her efforts at the Ponoka, Alta. rodeo, one of western Canada’s biggest rodeos. And with rodeo season’s busiest few weeks just getting started, Sears also kept her commitments to the Airdrie Pro Rodeo and the Williams Lake Stampede, occurring the same weekend. But, a time of 16.37 seconds in Airdrie, Alta. wasn’t enough to get in on the money, and a knocked barrel in Williams Lake, B.C. tipped over any chances of earnings there. She made up for it at the Reno Rodeo in Nevada. Arriving at the “Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West” on crutches, Sears was bound and determined to fi nish what she started after winning the fi rst go-round two days before her accident. She won that championship round and the average, and the more than $12,000 that went with it. She is set to compete next week at the Calgary Stampede before tak-ing a doctor-ordered rest for at least two weeks after re-injuring her leg at a rodeo in Colorado earlier this week. “I’m back at square one and my doctor told me they’ll get me ready for Calgary, but after that I’m going to have to take a couple of weeks off,” Sears announced. Barrington Loses Great Horse Last week Benette Barrington was involved in an accident during her travels between Williams Lake, BC, Canada and Airdrie, AB, CA. A brake on the pickup locked up causing the trailer to tip over on its side and in the process Benette lost her great On The Money Red horse affectionately known as Red. She had raised and trained Red and ran his mother as well. The other horse involved in the accident incurred some injuries but is recovering. As a testament to the amazing strength and kindness of the rodeo community, the Reichert family called up quickly to offer the services of Andele Cowboy (better known as Marvin) to Barrington while Maegen heals up from her injuries. Benette and Jud Little would like to thank all the people that helped during this tragedy. “Thanks to the many rodeo people who stopped to help Benette, it was just unbelievable,” said Jud Little. “We would like to thank the Walter and Kobold families and the many other friends for your) help and kindness during this time.”

Headin’ For HomeHeadin’ For Home By Mike MorrisonBy Mike Morrison Triple M (Mike Morrison Ministries) Triple M (Mike Morrison Ministries)
There’s a great satisfaction in having your horse yield to you and respond quickly to your cues and directions. You can develop a strong bond with your horses then and
you really become partners. It doesn’t matter whether you’re doing ranch work or arena competition, life is good when your horse trusts you and obeys without hesitation. That’s the way we should be with God. After all, He knows the beginning from the end and He has a good plan for our lives. God has good things in store for us if we only listen and follow Him. When bad things happen, it’s not God. Many times we follow our own desires and God lets us face the consequences. God doesn’t make us fail but we can fail if we’re out from under His direction and protection. Some will say, “How do I hear from God?” Just ask Him for directions and He’ll give it to you (James 1:5). Many times you’ll get a “gut” feeling about doing or not doing something. Many times you’ll feel a prick of your conscience about something. You’re hear-ing from God all the time but you might not be listening! Pray about things. Ask God to direct and take control of your
life. Read His Word to see what He says about things. The Bible has the answers to everything in life. We can help you, too. We have a Bible instruction class every week at our barn church. These meetings are recorded and sent out free of charge to those who can’t make it to the class. It’s part of our teaching ministry and we’re glad to do it. We send out hundreds of these teaching CDs to people all over the United States and sometimes to foreign countries. It’s a good way to help you grow in your faith and to understand what God’s Word is all about. It won’t cost you a dime and you can learn at your own pace. It’s simple. Just send your name and address to: Mike Morrison Ministries, Box 2439, Gillette, WY 82717 and we’ll put you on our mailing list. It will help you plug into the power of God!
Mike Morrison and his wife Sherry are ordained min-isters in their own non-denominational church in Gillette, WY. They also travel widely as circuit riders
