We have also had a great deal of parent / guardian support for excursions, incursions and interschool sports which is wonderful. Whether you help on a daily, weekly or once a term basis, we truly appreciate the support parents / guardians provide and recognise the value that parent / guardian involvement adds to our school and programs. On 1 August 2017, a series of changes will be introduced to the Victorian Working with Children (WWC) check. The biggest change is that while volunteers were not previously required to have a WWC card if they were directly supervised, under the new legislation they now will need to obtain a WWC card regardless of whether or not they are directly supervised. As a result, if you wish to volunteer at school in any capacity that involves direct contact with students, you will need to provide a current WWC card.

Principals Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
There is absolutely no question whatsoever that like all schools, Westbreen’s
core business is the planning and delivery of high quality curriculum designed to
improve each and every child’s abilities, with a particular focus on the areas of
literacy, numeracy and wellbeing.
Schools, of course, do much more than this, by also playing a pivotal role in each
child’s broader educational, social and emotional growth and development.
At Westbreen this is facilitated at the curriculum level through the delivery of
daily literacy and numeracy blocks, well planned integrated curriculum and a
broad range of programs including Science, Platoon Physical Education, Art,
Music, Library, Italian and crucial support and enrichment programs including
Personalised Learning Support and EAL (English as an Additional Language).
It is the next layer of activities and programs, many of which are closely linked
to our specialist programs that have contributed to our growing reputation in the
broader community. Programs like our Family Engagement Activities which
include Family Time, Playgroup, and Parent Voluntary Class Helpers.
The School Council and Staff of Westbreen are committed in continuing to
strengthen our links with our Parents, Guardians, Local Community members
and the Community in general. Working With Children Checks (WWCC)
We are very appreciative of all the parent support we receive for all manner of school activities at Westbreen Primary School. It is a delight to walk around the school and see parent / guardian helpers in so many of our learning sessions.
Therefore, a reminder that if you would like to work in the classrooms or attend excursions, or if you are already one of our valuable helpers, you must have a current Working with Children card. Online forms are available and applications can be made at the following website; https://online.justice.vic.gov.au/wwccu/onlineapplicationhome.doj There is no cost to anyone applying for a Working With Children check in a voluntary capacity. Once you receive your card, please make sure you bring it to the office for us to keep a copy on file. I f you have any questions regarding WWC or would like assistance with applying for a WWC card you can contact Ms. Michelle Brooksby via the School Office.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
Have a wonderful Week
Tony Cerra
Principal.
PREMIERS’ READING CHALLENGE Just a reminder for all children to keep up with their reading for the Premier’s Reading Challenge and to make sure that all books are entered on the computer. The Challenge must be completed by 8th September.
Some students have a large number of books listed as ‘Started’ – These books cannot be verified and counted in the challenge until they are listed as ‘Finished’. How to change a book from ‘Started’ to ‘Finished’ 1. Go to the reading list.
2. Tick the boxes next to the books you have finished reading. 3. Click ‘Finished’. Congratulations to Jackson I and Mavi P from 2B, Nathania C from 2M and Izyan A from 1T for completing the challenge. Well done!

Our Weekly Recap Last week in Before and After School Care we settled back into our routine with
some of our favourite activities.
We began our week updating our About Me profiles to update our wall display in
our room. We got our hands messy using paint to create hand print trees.
Wednesday we became mini Masterchefs and whipped up Chocolate Truffles, which
we got to take home and share with our families.
We finished off our week playing group games and enjoying some much needed
sunshine outside.
