WHY JOIN? WHY ME?

One of the greatest things about Key Club is that ANYONE can join! Key Club does not dis-criminate between race, gender, religion, GPA points, whether you have green polka dots on your skin or even red stripes. We want YOU to join, but only on one condition: you have to love helping others. Something that we all have in common is that we all love to help build our home, school, and community. The more friends you have that join, Key Club becomes that much more fun! When you’re with your friends, it doesn’t feel like work at all. We are all a family here, and Key Club tries to lend a hand and spread the power of love and friendship as much as possible. The more people we have that join in on the mission, the closer we are to making the world a better place!

COOL BEANS! HOW DO I JOIN?

Key Club sends out applications year-round, but you can join anytime! Prior to joining the club, you need to pay $25 worth of dues, which seems a bit pricey, but no worries! VICE PRESIDENTCALVIN LUU

Yo, I’m Calvin, your Key Club Vice President and I also happen to be the only male officer, haha.

Along with the rest of the officers, I’m really looking forward to the next school year to put

North Garland’s Key Club on the map. Besides Key Club, I’m also Student Body Parliamentarian, I love cars, and I play

tennis and (used to play) violin. I love to sleep and eat, so if I were an animal, I’d be a panda. I’d like to think of myself as a really social per-

son, so please come talk to me if you need anything at all!

SECRETARYLINH NGUYEN

Wassup, Key Club! I’m Linh Nguyen, your fabulous secretary, here for all your clerical needs! I’m the one who keeps records of everything that goes down in this club, the one who keeps track

of hours, the one who knows where you live… Pretty much, you don’t want to mess with me. And when I’m not slav-

ing away under Michelle’s distressing tyranny, I’m likely doing some-thing theatre or science related – my two babies, y’know, right after

Ryan Gosling. And Batman – pre and post DCnU.

TREASURER ANDREA TRINH

Hi, Key Club! My name is Andrea and I’m your Key Club Treasurer! I handle all the money that

comes through Key Club, and I promise that I’m reliable and trustworthy enough to keep all the

money organized and updated. While I care a lot for Key Club, I’m also Beta Club Vice President. I’m really passionate about working hard in school and giving back to the community, so I

hope I fulfill my duties as Treasurer.

WEBMASTEREMELY VILLEDA-PRINCIPE

Hi, my name is Emely Villeda-Principe and I’ll be serving as your new Key Club Webmaster. I really love sculpture, music, and anything artistic, which is why I’m in art, choir, and drama club. I plan to one day have a career in Digital Graphics, so this

new job will seriously put my skills to the test! Although I’m involved in some other clubs, I don’t plan on letting any of them get in the way of

my work. I look forward to this new year!

PRESIDENTMICHELLE PHAM I’m Michelle Pham, your 2012-2013 Key Club President. I’m super duper excited to be a part of the board—I have so many plans in store for the incoming year, so I hope you guys are just as thrilled and plan to stay year-round. I’m involved within

theatre and, in the future, newspaper and youth & government; I love devouring novels, eating, sleeping, volunteering, just about anything and everything aesthetic, and Key Club. And Starbucks—I love my Starbucks. Feel free to come to me for anything!

2ND VICE PRESIDENTKIMMY PHAMSalutations! My name is Kimmy Pham, 2nd Vice President of NGHS Key Club. I’m an outgoing, yet quite awkward chicken lover with a mild case of OCD and a pinch of F-U-N. Snoozing and chowing down scrumptious food are my hobbies, and doo-

dling hideous creatures on other people’s papers is a favorite activity I enjoy to do too! I also love to chat with my fellow friends and slapping smiles on their faces while spreading my “wings” to embrace everyone. Along with my fellow officers, I hope to be able to fulfill my duties as 2nd VP in order to spread the glory of Key Club and helping the community.

PARLIAMENTARIANBAOCHAU TONHi, I’m Baochau, your Key Club Parliamentarian! I’d like to believe that I’ll rule the world one day, but as for now, I’ll have to start off as Parli, who keeps the meetings under control and follows Parliamentarian Procedures. I’m very involved with

theatre, to which I am Drama Club President. I love Doctor Who, shop-ping, acting, and meeting new people. I hope to be the best Parliamentarian as I can be!

EDITORANGELINE TRAMHey, Key Clubbers! I’m Angeline, your fierce Key Club Editor! I’m in charge of all the publicity for Key Club—meaning that I design any posters, flyers, or newsletters (COUGH COUGH) that you might see (that's also submitted for competition!). Other

than Key Club, I’m also the Student Body Vice President and play percus-sion. I like DC Comics, watching TV (How I Met Your Mother, Legend of Korra, Supernatural, etc.), and making people laugh with my sassy humor.

MEET YOUR OFFICERS!

MAY 18 EPIC BOOK DRIVEWhat: Donating books to low-income families. Any books are fine as long as they’re in good shape! When: All books are due May 18thNote: 8 books = 30 minutes! So 16 books = 1 hour!

MAY 22 OPERATION BACKPACKWhat: Volunteers of America packs backpacks for homeless children in New York City and it is one of the main projects for Key Club. We assemble a backpack that’s filled with basic supplies (toothbrush, toothpaste, crayons, etc.) to ship off toNew York. When: All items are due May 22ndNote: Sign up for what you want to donate! Hours vary on what you bring (size, cost, etc.), so hurry up and claim your item! You can sign up for multiple items, as many as you want to bring.

MAY 28 PIC-NIC-ATHON!What: We’re holding a picnic with Division 2 (North Garland, Garland, Sachse, and Terrell High School) and Division 37 (Carrollton—that whole area). When: May 28th (Memorial Day), 10:30 AM to about 4 PMWhere: TBA (We’re trying to find some middle ground between us, Terrell, and Carrollton)Note: Sign up to bring items to the picnic! You get hours for bringing items and FOR EVEN GOING (extra hours for drivers!). This is an easy hour opportunity and it’s also the last one for the 2011-2012 school year, so take advantage of it!

BEFORE THE SCHOOL YEAR ENDS RECRUITING!What: Recruit as many members as possible! For every member you get that turns in their application WITH their $25 for dues, you will receive 1.5 hours. So, if you recruit 4 people, that’s already 6 of the hours you need to earn for the next school year! When: It ONLY applies during THIS 2011-2012 school year. We WILL NOT have this hour opportunity during the next school year.Note: Talk to ANY of the officers to grab a few applications to hand out to your friends. This is an EASY hour opportu-nity, mainly for the old members, but new members who have just signed up are allowed to recruit members as well, and it WILL rollover for the next school year. Both the application and dues aren’t due until fall of the next school year, but the sooner you sign up, the sooner you can start getting in your hours! You CANNOT start getting hours until you turn both the application and money in! Remember, we WILL NOT have this hour opportunity next year; if anything, it will be 10-20 minutes per person instead of 1.5 hours. The more friends you have that join Key Club, the more fun Key Club will be!

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’?

Many events are still in the works right now, but these are the confirmed events/hour opportunities for you guys! We will most likely have events during the summer, and the next school year is CHOCKED full of super fun events!

I pledge, on my honor; to upload the objects of Key Club International; to build my home, school and community; to serve my nation and God; and combat all forces which tend to undermine these institutions.

Did you know?Key Club is sponsored through Kiwanis International, also known as the Kiwanis Family. Through the Kiwanis, Key Club isn't only for high school! In fact, elementary students can already start participating in community service through K-Kids, then move up to the Builders Club for middle school and junior high students, then Key Club for high schools students, then Circle K International (CKI) for the university level. (That’s right, Key Club doesn’t stop after high school!) Because of the Kiwanis, students will always be able to give back to the community.

KEY CLUB SPOTLIGHTThe North Garland Key Club newsletter recognizes any member who shows devout dedication and an astounding attitude. Hard work and being friendly does not go unnoticed in our eyes, so check the monthly newsletter for the Key Club Spotlight and see if you’re in it!

So, without further ado, we would like to recognize Bryan Vu, a freshman here at North Garland High School, for his remarkable dedication to this club. Bryan has consistently been to as many Key Club meetings and events as he can, and is actually the very first member to meet his 50-hour requirement. On top of that, Bryan is always extremely friendly and warm to anyone and everyone! His positivity and willingness to help others is contagious, so we would all like to thank him for being the epitome of what Key Club is all about.
