Volume 13 Issue 2 the Shield of excellence October 2019 1 PARAGON BANK Paragon Hosts Second Annual Economic Summit On September 17, 2019, Paragon hosted the Outlook 2019 Economic Summit, our second annual economic summit. Again this year, Paragon worked with the Sparks Bureau of Business and Economic Research at the University of Memphis, which conducted a consumer confidence survey of almost 800 residents of Shelby and DeSoto counties. The survey was enhanced by broadening the geographical footprint of the survey and by including mobile telephones in addition to landlines. The survey questions remained the same, which provided the ability to compare consumer sentiment between the two years. The purpose of the survey was to provide consumer confidence insights that Memphis businesses may use as they make decisions about their businesses. Paragon CEO Robert Shaw briefly reviewed the survey results and moderated a panel discussion. Panelist included Craig Dismuke, Executive Vice President and Chief Economist at Vining Sparks; John E. Gnuschke, Ph.D., Director of the Sparks Bureau of Business and Economic Research; and Ernest Strickland, Senior Vice President for Workforce Development at the Greater Memphis Chamber. If you are interested in obtaining a copy of the study, copies are available at bankparagon.com/study. (l. to. r.) On February 6, Paragon hosted a luncheon presentation by representatives from Reynolds, Bone, and Griesbeck PLC entitled "Know the Rules – Navigating the New Tax Reform Bill."
On June 7, 2019, Paragon tragically lost a member of our Board of Directors, Glenn Cofield. Glenn was a devoted family man, active in his church, a successful financial executive, and an advocate for bettering the City of Memphis. Glenn was an important part of the Paragon family. He was an original member of the Board of Directors, Chairman of the Audit and Compliance Committee, and a member of the Directors' Loan Committee. Glenn helped Paragon raise our original capital and was a big help with Paragon's business development efforts. Hardly a week went by when Glenn was not in a meeting with us. We miss his humor, his wisdom, and his friendship. The thoughts and prayers from the entire Paragon family remain with Natalie, Houston, Scott, Andrew, Kristen, Bess, John, and Mrs. Fisher.

What do you do when you need to pay a babysitter or to split a restaurant bill? Getting cash from an ATM or writing a check are the traditional
methods of payment. Now there is a simple and secure method of making payments with Paragon's Person-2-Person payments.
From online banking, here are the simple steps to take:
1. Click the Bill Pay tab.
**For this example, the payee will be new and paid via email.**
2. Click the Add Payee (+Payee) button.
3. Enter the payee's contact information and click Next.
4. Create a keyword for the payee to verify their identity and click Next.
5. Because a new payee has been created, you must verify their identity and click Next.
6. Retrieve and enter the activation code to finish creating the payee.
7. Back at the Payments screen, locate the payee's name from the payee list.
8. Enter the payment information and click Pay.
The payee will receive an email with a link to finalize the payment. They will confirm the keyword and enter their banking information, and the money will be on its way. Any future payments made to that payee will be sent right away, requiring no intervention by the payee. If the electronic payment is completed by 2:00 pm CST on a normal business day, the funds will be in the payee's account the next business day.
For the steps to take from Paragon's mobile banking app, please go to www.bankparagon.com/p2p.
There is no fee for the service. No account or financial information will be shared with your recipient. To process your transaction, we will share with the recipient your name, email address, phone number, and anything you enter in the optional message field.
If you have any questions, please contact a Paragon team member of our IT Department at 901.273.2900.

Paragon team members at the annual shareholders' meeting on May 28, 2019.
Tennessee's Financial Literacy Week, presented by the Tennessee Bankers Association, was introduced this year. Tennessee BankersAssociation members were encouraged to participate in their community with a financial literacy event. During the week of April 8-12, Paragon led two literacy events. On April 10, Paragon Bank collaborated with the RISE Foundation to present "Rise Up at Paragon Bank"- a free budgeting workshop. On April 11, Paragon team members visited our adopted class at Hawkins Mill Elementary to share a lesson about
"Money in My Community" and a fun-filled activity about financial literacy.

This was also the fifth year our Small Business Capital Group team members helped clean up and repair a house as part of DeKalb County Habitat for Humanity’s home repair program. This program is for low-income seniors, residents with disabilities, and veterans.
In May Paragon team members returned to the Dorothy Day house we helped prepare for occupancy last year. We did spring cleaning and yard work. The Dorothy Day houses provide places for homeless families to stay together.

In June, Paragon had the pleasure of granting the wish of five-year-old Khamil to go to Disneyworld. We recreated an episode of Nickelodeon's "Team Umizoomi" for her to complete activities which concluded in her wish being granted. This was the 14th wish Paragon has granted.
Recently, Volunteer Odyssey launched its "Year to Volunteer" initiative in honor of Memphis' 200th anniversary and as a way to celebrate companies and organizations that are dedicated to serving Memphis. Paragon Bank was honored to be presented with the above pictured award.
Paragon team members drop off school supplies donated by team members to help with United Way's Stuff the Bus drive.
Each year Paragon's executive management team cooks hamburgers and hotdogs for the Paragon team to celebrate Memorial Day. Pictured above on May 23 are (l. to. r.) Andy Taylor, Marshall Talley, Mike Edwards, Robert Shaw, and Lewis Perkins.
For the second consecutive year, Paragon Bank was selected as one of the Best Banks to Work For by the American Banker. Of the 85 banks selected as Best Banks, Paragon ranked number 10. Paragon is the top-rated Memphis-based bank to be featured on the list.
Determining the Best Banks to Work For involves a two-step process. The first step involves an evaluation of participating companies' workplace policies, practices, and demographics. In the second step, employee surveys are conducted to directly assess the experiences and attitudes of individual employees with respect to their workplace. The combined scores determine the top banks and the final ranking. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration, survey process, and data analysis.
