Gold Fields Ghana, the country's largest gold producer with mines in Tarkwa and Damang in the Western Region, was presented with a platinum award at the 10th Anniversary of the Ghana-Africa Business Awards, organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.

The Awards recognize the contributions businesses make towards Ghana's development through the promotion of trade, investment, and other economic relations between Ghana and sister African countries.

The company was honoured for its investment promotion in the mining sector, having spent over US$2.4 billion in direct investments since it started operations. This is apart from the over US$26 million that the company has spent on the socio-economic development of its stakeholder communities.

Gold Fields Ghana's award was received by the Executive Vice President and Head of West Africa, Mr. Alfred Baku.

USD$10 Million investment to boost food production and security in Ghana

Indian donates Tata's to Seychelles People's Defence Forces further strengthening friendly relations

Magcor is investing $10 million USD to boost food production and security in Ghana after investing in Agricon Global last year. Magcor has announced further plans to grow more rice, maize and vegetables in Ghana. Mr. Michael Glynn said this joint venture is a pilot farming project of 33 hectares which currently specializes in growing vegetables, water melon, maize and rice.

The project is led by Mr. Alexander Stoica, a successful and experienced Romanian farmer with track records of achievements in big farming projects here in Ghana and overseas. The plan is to roll out

this model project throughout the country. Mr. Glynn commended Mr. Stoica for all the hard work, research and testing carried out in the last 18 months.

Ghana's agriculture sector which is the mainstay of the economy continues to rely on the two major seasons to plant and harvest crops to feed Ghanaians and that has increased the nation's dependence on importation of foodstuffs such as rice, tomatoes and other vegetables from neighboring countries.

Magcor and Fast Fresh farms will use drip irrigation system and other modern farming technology

to ensure all year round availability of fruit, vegetables and rice on the local market at affordable prices to feed the people of Ghana.

In a latest development Fast Fresh and Magcor have won a long term contract to supply fruits and vegetable to all Shop Rite Supermarkets in Ghana and Nigeria. The Managing Director of Shop Rite visited Fast Fresh farms last week to seal the Fruit and vegetable supply deal.

Mr. Michael J. Glynn said that his company is motivated to reach the production target of 2 million tons of rice, maize, fruits and vegetables in 5 years.

He said this is a challenging target set by his company and Investment Consortium to help improve food security in Ghana and neighbouring countries.

In his final words in this interview The CEO of Magcor, Mr. Michael J Glynn said Magcor and its consortium are fully committed to eradicating poverty and improving the quality of life in Ghana and will continue to target investment to achieve this objective.

kenya tourism now in recovery mode

The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) is clearly wasting no time to take the battle

for market recovery and to lure more tourists from the world, by courting existing, new, and emerging markets, as KTB recently announced the dates for their Magical Kenya Travel Expo.

The Kenyatta International Convention Centre will once again be the venue for Kenya’s premier international tourism fair, allowing the showcasing of all of the country’s varied attractions, from the sun-drenched beaches of the Indian Ocean to the shores of Lake Victoria, from Tsavo and Amboseli to Lake Turkana, and from Mt. Kenya to the Masai Mara and everywhere in between, including the UNESCO World Heritage sites in the Great African Rift Valley;

lakes Elementaita, Naivasha, Nakuru, Bogoria, and Baringo; and the conservancies on the Laikipia plains and beyond which are at the forefront of private wildlife conservation.

The dates for the 2014 event were announced as October 8 to 10 inclusive, and this year, some 150 top-rated buyers from the key markets supporting Kenya’s tourism industry will be invited and hosted by the Kenya Tourism Board, to showcase the country as fundamentally safe for visitors and ready to provide that once-in-a-lifetime holiday.

Also invited will be selected international media houses, travel magazines, and travel publications to send their correspondents to get a feel for Destination Kenya and meet some, if not all, of the

120 exhibitors who are expected to sign up for the event, interact with exhibition visitors, and, of course, the buyers who are expected to sign major contracts for safaris and beach holidays with their Kenyan counterparts.

Partner countries Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi, will be standing by Kenya to offer their support for the event, and other tourism boards are expected to exhibit once again from the Seychelles, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and India, which drew large crowds last year. Additional African tourism boards are also expected to come to Nairobi, both as a sign of solidarity with their Kenyan colleagues and as an opportunity to showcase multi-center safari vacations.

Mr. Baku said, 'even in such a tough economic and fiscal environment, the company is still pumping over US$180 million this year into its operations in both Tarkwa and Damang.

In 2013, we paid almost US$218 million in taxes and royalties to the government of Ghana.

We continue to honour our legal obligations to government, and social commitment to our stakeholder communities.'

Gold Fields Ghana established a Foundation in 2004, the first to be set up by a mining company in Ghana, to serve as a vehicle for its social investment in stakeholder communities, focusing mainly on education, agriculture, health, water and sanitation, and infrastructure. For every ounce of gold produced, Gold Fields Ghana donates a dollar to the Foundation, and tops it up with an additional 0.5% of the company's pre-tax profit.

Wassupafrica 03FDIs into Africa projected to hit $80 billion this year

Africa has achieved exceptional economic growth over the past

decade, averaging 4.5 percent a year and underpinned by prudent macroeconomic management. Now we must achieve economic growth that is accompanied by significantly less poverty and greater prosperity for all the people of the continent.

With new discoveries of oil, gas, and minerals seemingly every month, we need to be able to extract, market, and invest the new-found earnings from these resources in higher quality education, health, and other vital development priorities.

As Africans move to cities in ever-growing strength, we must also address unprecedented rates of urbanization and new needs for housing, infrastructure, and agricultural productivity to feed urban residents as well as increase food security in rural areas.

At the same time, these challenges also bring opportunities for joint research that would benefit scientists across the world as well in Africa.

There is scope for similar research collaboration between African and foreign scientists in medicine and biodiversity, irrigation, engineering, mining and other fields.

Thanks to Africa’s recent progress in school enrolment, more and more students are completing primary and secondary school.

External financial inflows as well as tax revenues and regional integration are tipped to remain the key drivers of Africa’s development and growth prospects, according to Africa’s economic outlook 2014.

The report released by the African Development Bank at the ongoing 49th AfDB Annual Meetings in Kigali, indicates that Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) have fully recovered from the effects of the economic crisis and are projected to reach $80b this year.

Over the past two years, FDIs to Africa were $50bn and $56 billion for 2012 and 2013 respectively.

The manufacturing and service sectors will continue attracting a big share of the FDIs into Africa and could fetch up to $67.1b this year, the report indicated.

According to the report, financial inflows have quadrupled since 2000 and are projected to reach over $200b this year. The report also indicates that Africa’s exports grew faster than in any other region in the world, driven by strong commodity prices and attractive trade policies and regional integration.

Intra-African trade with value-added manufacturing grew faster than exports to the rest of the world. However, Africa accounts for just 3.5 per cent of world exports, and this has remained low over the years.

Speaking after the launch of the report, Valentine Rugwabiza, the CEO of Rwanda Development Board, said Africa can further improve its trade by removing bottlenecks to trade and strengthening industrialisation.

“We are already seeing the impact regional integration is having in terms of doing business across the region. There is no doubt that the cost and time of conducting business has immensely reduced, especially along the Northern Corridor,” she said, referring to recent commitments by tripartite countries; Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda to ease movement of goods from Mombasa port to the hinterland.

Mario Pezzini, the director of the OECD Development Centre, said attracting FDIs in the value chain requires targeted trade reforms and policies, efficient trade infrastructure and incentives to support value-added technology.

“The more the economy is integrated in a global value chain, the higher the productivity. This, however, must be carried out at both regional and national levels,” Pezzin said. Today, 80 per cent of global trade is linked to multinational corporations, while 60 per cent of global trade in goods is in form of intermediate products and on average foreign value added makes up 25 per cent.

“Successful integration and upgrading in value chains call for openness and product-specific, sometimes firm-specific, strategies,” Pezzin noted.

However, African states have not participated fully in this import growth, according to Pascal Lamy, the former director general of the World Trade Organisation.

Lamy said there was need for an enabling trade environment to help African suppliers to scale-up involvement in services value chain.

“Regional bodies have launched important initiatives to boost industrialisation and investment in regional infrastructure, but these need to be strengthened by global value chains and Africa’s industrialisation agenda,” Lamy said.

According to the report, in 2013, Africa maintained an average growth rate of about 4 per cent, against the 3 per cent average growth of the economy globally.

Malawian diaspora to offer advice and persuade them to return home with their much-needed skills. “He is a person who is really caring. He’s very open to listening to opinions and ideas, so if you have something beneficial, he’d be very open to listening. It’s not about his say, it’s about what is the best thing that can be developed and implemented. He’s not caught up in the whole status issue. He’s very intellectual, very sharp…you can sit down and discuss anything with him. The most fascinating thing is that Professor Mutharika will give you time, even as a young person,” said James Woods, consultant on African security and development issues, and a family friend of the Mutharikas.

Others close to Peter Mutharika suggest that he is well aware of his brother’s shortcomings, and determined to prevent a repeat performance.

There is evidence to back this up. One of Mutharika’s

closest advisors, the lawyer Allan Ntata, just released a book freely scrutinising some of the things Bingu did wrong, screening that at least some of the people surrounding the new president have learnt the needed morals.

All eyes will now be observing to understand what kind of President Mutharika will become. Despite the fact that his brother’s politics will undoubtedly have shaped the new leader, it rests to be understood whether we can expect Peter’s government to be more like Bingu’s efficacious and positive first term, or his more ominous second.

Malawi currently is in a very diverse place to where it was when Bingu passed away all of a sudden. By most books, the new president is his own man – now he is supposed to prove it and, in doing so, hand over to Malawians the peace, firmness and richness they are worthy of after the last few years of turmoil.

This new generation of young Africans must be equipped with the modern skills and knowledge they need to find African solutions to Africa’s challenges. Earlier this year, at a High-Level Forum on Higher Education for Science, Technology and Innovation hosted by the Government of Rwanda and the World Bank in Kigali, participating countries and partners called for a bold target to double the share of African university graduates in science and technology fields within a decade, by 2025. This is key to transform Africa into a knowledge-driven continent within a generation.

So how can we do it? There are proven steps that can be taken to realign higher education with the needs of the 21st century economy and to brighten the career prospects of young Africans today. Partnership is the operative word, between academic institutions both in Africa and abroad, between universities and the private sector, and with new investment partners in Asia and Latin America.

African universities have much to gain from joining forces with universities abroad, such as through the University of Michigans STEM-Africa initiative which has nurtured young scientists and advanced research networks with institutions in Africa, and also their work in training mathematicians and doctors on the continent. In fact, the African Diaspora

can play a very critical role in advancing science and technology in their countries of origin by helping generate new interest in supporting the STEM fields in Africa. We must mobilize a wide alliance of supporters including policymakers, international financial institutions such as the World Bank Group, and academics, both in Africa and abroad. At the same time, universities in Africa now need to achieve the next level of home-grown excellence.

Students must also be able to apply what they learn once they graduate and look to cross the threshold of the jobs market. Following the example of countries like Kenya and Senegal, ministries responsible for higher education should aim to boost private representation on their university boards and engage with the private sector to strengthen links with employers, including on curriculum design.

The World Bank is working with eight African governments and the Association of African Universities on the Africa Centres of Excellence initiative, which will strengthen 19 centres of excellence in West and Central Africa. This initiative aims to build and sustain excellence in higher education in Africa, particularly in science and technology, by fostering regional specialization, concentrating limited top-level faculty and generating knowledge spillovers.

Africa’s new partners countries

such as Brazil, China, India and Korea can play an important role in building human capital in Africa. These countries have rich experience in developing higher education programs that serve the needs of modernizing economies, and have much to offer by way of lessons learned and active partnerships. The World Bank is working towards building a Partnership for Skills in the Applied Sciences, Engineering and Technology (PASET) that brings together new partners and African policymakers, to catalyse this process especially in high-potential sectors.

Partnership among all of these networks will commit us all to a coordinated, faster approach to advancing science and technology in Africa and helping Africans young people achieve their aspirations. It will also help companies to find young Africans with advanced skills and knowledge locally, allowing them to compete and thrive in international markets.

As more than 11 million young Africans try to join enter the job market every year over the next decade, we need to make strategic investments in their education and other development prospects in order to drive and sustain Africa’s economic transformation.

You might be wondering why we are calling this country as the ‘Geological Miracle’ of

the African Continent. No doubt, after holding a big share of world’s Bauxite reserves, Guinea Conakry is carrying all the strong magnets to attract foreign investors into the country. The country offers fruitful business opportunities with ample of benefits.

Guinea Conakry wraps an area of almost 246000 square kilometers and has population of approx 11 million people. The country shares its northern border with Guinea Bissau, Senegal and Mali, southern border with Sierra Leone, Liberia and the eastern border with Cote d’Ivore Coast. Guinea Conakry has a huge administration network.

Guinea Conakry is a member of big International Organizations like United Nations (UN), African Union (AU), Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Economic community of West African States (ECOWAS) and African Development Bank (AFDB).

The Rewarding Sectors

MiningGuinea is a vastly mineral rich country whose varied potential includes known world-class bauxite which is the major source of foreign currency and iron ore reserves as well as gold and diamonds. Guinea is the second largest producer of bauxite worldwide, having produced around 17 million tons in 2011. It also has less known nickel, limestone, uranium, manganese, graphite and other deposits, most of which are still largely underexploited. In addition, Guinea possesses at least two

unexpected world-class iron ore deposits, Mounts Nimba and Simandou in the southeast of the country. The gold potential of the country is estimated at over 50 million tons.

Investment OpportunitiesThere are several areas of opportunity for investment in the mining sector in Guinea:Mineral reserves for exploitation: Mineral assets have not been fully explored as exploitation activities have mostly covered traditional elements such as bauxite, iron ore, gold and diamond.Concession awards: According to the new mining code, companies finding mineral interests will be able to apply for concessions and transfer their titles, following the due process.Direct and Indirect infrastructure: There will be numerous business opportunities for successful subcontractor who can provide water, energy and other services to the mining firms.

EnergyThe country has a considerable hydropower potential of approximately 6,000 megawatts, with an annual production capacity of 19.3 GWh, only 2% of which is developed. Solar power could also be considerably developed given a mean sunshine duration of 2,700 hours per year. The Government has started working on an electricity development program focusing on the acquisition of power generators, rehabilitation of existing plant, construction of large and small scale das and reconstruction of the energy sector to ensure effectiveness of the management and give incentives for investment.

Investment opportunitiesInvestment opportunities exist in the construction of dams to provide electricity for domestic industries populations as well as for the eventual export to neighboring countries. Benefits of investment in the sector are underscored by the hydropower generation potential of the country, an attractive investment climate, regional cooperation and the opportunity to export, strong demand from the mining sector, and growth potential of industries and households.

Agriculture

Guinea has historically been an exporter of numerous agricultural commodities. The country offers ideal climatic and soil conditions over its four diverse natural regions and as such, has tremendous untapped agricultural potential. This sector employs 70% of the active population and accounts for 11% of exports (cotton, coffee, cocoa, rubber, palm

oil, fruits and vegetables) and 17% of imports (rice and other cereals). The arable land is estimated to be 6 million hectares only 10% of which is cultivated annually.

Investment OpportunitiesIn 2012, the Government seeks to build on the successes of 2011 and broaden the horizon of cooperation by developing new partnerships with private investors and centers of excellence around the globe. The Government envisions a critical role for foreign investors in this endeavor:• In the short to mid-term as provider of technology, equipment and agriculture best practices to local farmers and as promoters of short term commercial crops such as cotton.• In the mid to long-term as promoters of agribusinesses and long term commercial crops in partnership with local investors and / or the Government.

Infrastructure

Guinea offers great infrastructure development opportunities, all because of its abundant natural resources and the Government’s ambitious plans to build a world class modern system of roads, airports, real estate, telecommunications, transportation and energy supply to accompany its current economic boom.

Investment OpportunitiesThe Government is actively seeking partners to build several dedicated seaports for the transportation of minerals outside of the country. In addition, there is a need to increase the number of modern housing units across the country. Partners are also encouraged to invest in the building of fiber optics and other telecommunications networks throughout the country.

TourismThe charming and varied climate, also the high mountains and the long rivers make the landscape

looks very nice. The different tribes with their crafts, dances, songs and traditions add a cultural richness to the natural ones. Besides, there are nice hotels and museum and others famous places in the capital city Conakry. The development of tourism is critical as well as the country has become more attractive to tourists since the democratic election of Professor Alpha Condé.

Investment OpportunitiesGuinea’s immense tourism potential is based on its standing as a country which has formed African history while preserving its exclusively distinct image. It is often dubbed the ‘Switzerland of Africa’ and offers visitors many opportunities to capture the spirit and flavour of the nation, its people, culture, history, colourful costumes, lifestyles and breathtaking scenery.

Over the last four decades, developed countries have observed a steady but foreseeable swing in the emphasis of radio and television

programming. Both private and state-run media outlets were once the primary sources of information, broadcasting the events that affected or even changed lives. Radio and television delivered facts on critical matters of state and other areas of national and international interest.

Newspapers, which had been the leading source of news for 150 years in some countries, fell from the top position in the 1960s and 1970s when media consumers became familiarised to listening to or watching national and world events happening live in front of them as they ate their dinners.

Now, there is an altogether different transferral in the way that news is consumed (primarily toward the Internet). While developed countries’ television and radio networks still broadcast news (including multiple 24/7 channels), their dominance is sliding.

But in the developing nations, the condition is different. The ratio of news and information to entertainment is considerably higher in developing countries. Broadcasting news and information to the rural populations in Asia and Africa is increasing in importance.

No doubt, media can be an influential power for transformation in both developed and developing economies. It is competent enough to efficaciously achieve the functions of watchdog, gatekeeper and agenda setter. Without doubt it can mend governance by educating and nurturing citizen consciousness of social matters, empowering populations to hold their governments to account, curbing corruption, and forming a civic medium for discussion.

But what is the scenario in Africa? What is the standing of media awareness in Africa at present when definite trends in progress towards maturity are steadily being recorded in other parts of the world? Africa is confronted with the challenge to integrate the continent into the information society.

In a recent examination conducted by Balancing Act, an African media consultancy, the firm asked representative samples of listeners from nine SSA countries about the radio programs they listened to on a daily basis. The results show that radio is listened to almost equally for news and music. An average of 57 percent across all nine countries said they listened to the radio daily for news; 58 percent listened to music. These categories are followed by sports (29 percent), religion (20 percent), call-in shows (18 percent), informational programs (13 percent) and talk programs (9 percent).

These figures were predominantly thought-provoking in that the advancement of agricultural strengthening over radio crosses many of these platforms in its relevance to both the program formats (news, call-in shows, informational shows and talk programs) and the peri-urban and rural listening audiences.

One of the key rewards of radio is that it is handy and can be listened to while carrying out other activities. Balancing Act research also noted that news-seeking behavior in North Africa, in particular, favors newspapers much more strongly than in SSA, a reminder of how important radio is in serving poor populations with news and information. It is also a reminder of the economic disparity between the two regions.

In an endeavor to make the continent a strong synergy towards the planned digital migration for 2015, in recent past Channels Television CEO. Mr. John Momoh asserted in a conference at London, “This is the time for us to seize the day in Africa and we believe that Channels Television has what it takes to be part of what promises to be a successful broadcast industry in the continent.” The conference organized by the Association for International Broadcasting, AIB, and Channels Television witnessed discussions on many new chapters that can change the scenario of media in Africa. In its efforts to clutch opportunities in the African media landscape, Mr. Momoh spread the word for its idea to partner with the Pan African News Network, a revolution that needs partnerships, he noted.

However, it was also discussed in the conference that with unfolding of digital migration for 2015, media content and service delivery, the CEO, African Media Initiative, Amadou Mahtar Ba considers that “small content producers can team up together and come up with something totally powerful.” He also noted, “My vision is to work with like-minded colleagues within Nigeria, in Africa and across the globe to create an enabling environment and consortium that would result in the establishment of a credible news and factual programming based television network with intent to enlighten through entertainment, (and) the establishment of low-cost free view DTH (Direct To Home) platform which millions across Nigeria and Africa will be able to afford.”

Worth mentioning, Mr. John Momoh in his endeavor to strengthen the media industry and scenario in the continent asserted, “We have to stop thinking about the limitations we impose on Africa; if the content is good, Africans will buy it.”

In conclusion, a new partnership was signed between Channels Television and the Voice of America for free flow of news and information, as well as joint collaborations in gracious presence of the Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission, Emeka Mba, at the conference.

Channel Television CEO seeks partnership with Pan African News Network

Broadcasting news and information to the rural populations in asia and africa is increasing in importance

General of EAC, he highlighted the critical importance of media by saying “The basis of our government being the opinion of the people, the very first objective should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter.”

The world is very fast undergoing the democratization of the media scenery. This revolution is captivating diverse modes. There is, for instance, the mounting role of mobile phones fitted out with still and video cameras. These devices are ascertaining to be influential allies with the internet in transforming the global media landscape. Consequently, from Morocco, to Pakistan, Iraq, South Korea, Tibet-China and, lately Iran, tape of violent protests, clashes and even terrorist attacks are promptly captured by camera phones and uploaded onto the internet with YouTube, Face book, Myspace and Twitter internet platforms.

In the African continent, as in many other parts of the world, the media acts as an important characteristic in enlightening and notifying the audience a propos the subject matter and happenings. Specifically, during the time of natural and man-made disasters the media frequently has a fortuitous twin role, together with reporting the event itself and performing as a catalyst for evoking responses. Thus, the media is a vital actor for issuing warnings of disasters; for notifying government officials, relief organizations and the public to potential dangers; for collecting and communicating material apropos affected areas; and for easing deliberations about disaster preparedness and response.

This is a significant period in Africa’s history. The story of famine, war, and ailment that was its label in the media for decades has specified an approach to one of hopefulness, development and return on investment. The continent’s middle class is growing with more people predictable to live in urban areas. Industrialized and developing economies are dating the continent. There is accumulative discovery of oil, gas and other vital minerals in the continent. Africa claims of a vast coastline-the Indian Ocean rim, which has become a planned global trade gateway.

How can we forget the endeavors of Government of India to strengthen the multidimensional relations prevailing between Africa and India through Africa-India Forum Summit which is envisioned to reflect the modalities to fortify the cooperation ties between the two partners in the capacities of Economic; Political; Science, Technology, Research and Development; Social Development and Capacity Building; Tourism; Infrastructure, Energy and Environment and Media and Communication.

After meeting an official of AUC, who was in India to adopt the Joint Action Plan of the Enhanced Framework for cooperation of the 2nd India-Africa Forum Summit, the official highlighted the importance of media in the country and expressed his desire to further enhance the level of cooperation on this subject.

All the developments taking place in the continent indicate prospects and intimidations with a long-lasting influence on the public, infrastructure, culture, diet, governance and communication with other continents. It is hence domineering that the continent spends considerably in media studies to allow it to recognize and exploit developing opportunities as well as steer around threats on two levels: continentally

and individual country platform. It is doubtful that the stimulus of the

broadcast media in the developing world will diminish in the coming decades. Billions will rest on radio and television as their major sources of news and information. But there will be a growing number of technological selections that will outline the way these populations get their news.

The Bloomberg Media Initiative Africa will foster collaboration, support professional growth and nurture the leaders who are contributing to the continent’s very bright future.

Television has shrunk the world and has in the process become a great weapon for eradicating ignorance and promoting democracy.

Mumbai is what we lovingly call - the 'City of Dreams'. This marvellous metropolis is not only the financial

capital of India that aids as the center of all trade and investments, but also a cultural center.

It is a place where you can enjoy the most eminent stylish labels and merchandises from various fashion houses that overflow the eventful malls. A place where allure is not a rare word and is imitated brazenly in the Bollywood film industry.

To witness some of God's astonishing wonders- the splendid sunsets over the Arabian Sea, do take a look at the beaches in Mumbai, which is a dream-like vision. In Mumbai, night is when the day truly arises,

which is why Mumbai is also talk about as the 'city that never sleeps'. Once a cluster of seven islands, Mumbai was offered to King Charles II in 1661 as part of the dowry when he married Princess Catherine de Braganza of Portugal.

City of Dreams: Vivacious, thriving, on the move, energetic, amusing - this is Mumbai or as it is still often denoted as - Bombay. The most contemporary city in India, it catches the essence of the shifting pace set by liberalization and modernisation.

Lip-Smacking Choices: It is the capital of Maharashtra state, and its official language is Marathi though English and Hindi are broadly spoken and understood. The fast-paced life has given rise to packs of "fast-food

outlets" on more or less every road, proposing lip-smacking choices of Mumbai's very own: Pau Bhaji, Bhel Puri and Kababs. There is no shortage, yet, of multi-culinary delicacies dished out in high-class restaurants by master chefs.

Shopper's Delight: Mumbai is a shopper's delight with inexpensive buys, élite boutiques, cultural markets and mini bazaars. This eventful city is also the centre of a blossoming cultural life, with an endless stream of concerts in music, dance and drama.

Bindaas Bollywood: Next to Hollywood, Mumbai is world's largest production centre for films. The Film City: 'Bollywood', as it is called, produces the second most number of films in the world every year.

Mumbai for All: Mumbai gratifies to the audacious and the idealistic through its boasting activities, nightclubs, pubs, theatres, beaches and restaurants.

Old and new, rich and poor, classical and modern- it’s all here for you to smell and relish!

The City That Never Sleeps!!

Gateway of india: This 26m-high edifice has four turrets and intricate latticework engraved into the yellow basalt stone. Local people as well as the foreign tourists come down to this place in the evening and take a cool rest from day's tiring work schedules.

WHere to Go???

Marine Drive: It is the place where people hang out to cool down a while from the muggy hurried and busied life. As street lamps systematically line up on the edge of the beach, it is also known as called Queen's Necklace. Stalls on the beach, selling Bhelpuri, Kulfi and Paan make the chowpatty reviving.

Juhu Beach: Juhu is one of the most popular and posh beaches of India. Tourists can enjoy horse and donkey rides, dancing monkeys, acrobats, cricket matches, toy sellers etc. here.

essel World: Essel World offers over 40 exciting rides, games, and attractions. The Water Kingdom is said to be the largest of its kind in Asia. It is a perfect destination for a one-day holiday.

siddhivinayak temple: The temple has a Kalash, which is a pointed dome of 12 feet high Gabhara (sanctum sanctorum) weighing 1500 kg and plated in gold. So, it expedites the 'Darshan' of Sri Siddhivinayak from either the area surrounding the Gabhara or the stage (Sabha Mandap) constructed to conduct pujas and festivities.

Haji ali: Haji Ali Dargah is one of India’s most famed and prominent landmarks. The impressive Haji Ali is both a mosque and tomb. The Dargah is situated on a small island and is reachable through a narrow walking lane.

EyelinerThe soft, gentle, pastel shades of spring-summer attire should be contrasted with bright make-up and pink and orange lips. It’s a relaxed way to shoot up some colour into your summer look, and lively eyeliners are of lower upkeep than a lip colour. Yet, it is indispensable to choose the colour to compliment your clothing and your eyes. If you don’t want to entice too much attention just smudge a little into your waterline, or even just the bottom lash for a flash of colour.

MascaraIf you want to elude that scary-looking metal eyelash curler that seems more like an antique agony devise, go for for a product that encompasses a curling formula. Select the color you want to wear - black, brown or even navy blue. Usually, applying two coats of mascara will give sufficient definition to eye- lashes to really make a difference.

Eye ShadowSubject on the shades you wish to use, you can be to some extent colourful and innovative with the extensive range of products for eyelids on the market. Now you can accessorize your eyes with a beautiful array of powders, creams and glittery dustings. Not sure about colors? Go with somewhat neutral the first couple of times until you get the dangle of it. Put on a light dusting of bronze, tan or other shimmery transparent color for a mild hint of color.

Doesn’t matter if you have black, blue, brown, hazel or green eyes, they have been always raised to as “windows to the soul,” giving those who exchange glances the power to better grasp one’s persona and passions. Eyes expose ecstasy and euphoria as much as they uncover grief, sadness and misery. Now and then thoughtful, naughty or secretive, eyes can let us know those petite secrets we might otherwise miss in dealing with people we know and love.

The President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (Anoca) General Lassana Palenfo has confirmed Algiers as hosts of the 2018 African Youth Games. Palenfo handed over the Anoca flag to Algeria Olympic Committee president, Mustapha Berraf on Saturday at the closing ceremony of the 2014 Africa Youth Games in Botswana.

Anoca Executive Committee decided, by a wide majority, to entrust the organisation of the youth jamboree to Algeria, which presented an impeccable bid. The final decision was made following an inspection tour of several scheduled venues by a high-level Anoca delegation in March this year.

The women volleyball team is one of the most successful and well organized teams in the country. It has produced some of the biggest names like Denise Mutatsimpundu, Brigitte Mutakwampundu and Charlotte Nzayisenga among others.

However, we also have new kids on the block like APR’s Grace Karigirwa who previously featured for Ruhango volleyball club and Lycee de Nyanza (LDN).

As a child Karigirwa did not have any particular interest in sports until she joined secondary school. When she moved to

Ghana's World Cup goalkeepers Fatau Dauda, Stephen Adams and Adam Kwarasey are impressed by Kwesi Appiah's training methods. Kwarasey, who captains Norwegian champions Stromsgodset, overly impressed in tune up match against the Netherlands in Rotterdam.

The African Youth Games target the 14 to 18 age group, and is thought to contribute to the development of African sport and to the growth of Olympic values, as well as act as a trial run for the Olympic Games.

The 2018 African Youth Games will follow other major events that have been held in Algeria, including the 2007 All Africa Games.

Algiers 2018 will be the third edition of the quad-annual Games, following a maiden event held in Rabat, Morocco in July 2010, with the second version taking place in the Botswana capital of Gaborone from May 22 to 31.

It was a splendid night, when the 7th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) T20

tournament came to end at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The Kolkata Knight Riders kept their collective calm in a high-scoring final for the second time in three years to become one of the most successful teams of the IPL.

Manish Pandey’s 94 off 50 balls assisted the side pull off a chase of 200 and even though Kings XI Punjab coming back with several late strikes, Kolkata slipped home in the thriller with three balls and three wickets to spare.

With their ninth win in a row of the edition, Kolkata hinged the Chennai Super Kings, whom

they had crushed in the final two years ago, as the only side to have claimed multiple IPL trophies.

For Punjab, who lost the toss and were asked to bat, the combine of Glenn Maxwell, David Miller, George Bailey and Virender Sehwag, whom reputation and recent history have marked out as match winners, could only manage nine runs between the four of them. Instead, it was Wriddhiman Saha who came up with the most destructive innings in an IPL final so far. The wicket-keeper batsman cracked his way to a 55-ball unbeaten 115 and was helpful in Punjab reaching 199/4 batting first.

If his rigid hitting was just

credible, so was the fact that such a knock could truly end up in a losing cause. It was equally uncanny that Punjab’s Akshar Patel (four overs for 21 runs), the only bowler to have gone at less than six runs an over in a game where 400 runs were scored in less than 40 overs, also did not end the day with his hands around the trophy.

Manish Pandey (KKR) was the Man of the Match. Robin Uthappa (KKR) wins the Orange Cup. Mohit Sharma (CSK) wins the Purple Cap. Glenn Maxwell (KXIP) wins the Most Valuable Player of the IPL 7.Akshar Patel (KXIP) wins the Emerging Player of the Tournament. Chennai Super Kings win the Fair Play Award.

All three are satisfied with the work done by technical team and expressed optimism ahead of the global show piece in Brazil.

'Training hasn't been easy and was totally intense than what we had in Accra I must say,' Kwarasey said. 'It's been really hot here with attention giving to little details.' Dauda also had similar words for the technical team. 'Real work has begun and the technical team has really done well to keep us all on our toes,' he

said. Adams also praised the level of professionalism being displayed by the technical team.

'Training has been great with few challenges. Everybody knows the task ahead and the coaches are leaving no stone unturned as we get ready for the world cup.'

Ghana are currently in Miami, Florida to finalize preparations and will play their final warm-up match against South Korea on 9 June.

In 2008, she played for former league side Ruhango VC before featuring for her school team, Lycee de Nyanza in 2009 and 2010. “Back in the days, I wasn’t interested in sports but when the time came, I went for volleyball, which to me is the best sport,” she told Saturday Sport.

Future plans“I’m still in love

with volleyball, and I feel I still have a lot to accomplish before going for a different challenge. I am happy at APR and I’m even looking forward to more success as far as retaining the league title this year is concerned,” Karigirwa

said when asked about his future plans.

“It would be a golden opportunity if I get a chance to play in a better championship; Kenya is my preference because it would really improve my game,” he added. On plans to retiring he said he is still too young and very ambitious to even start thinking of retiring. “All I think about now is how best I can help my team to achieve more success. I’ll start to think of a different challenge when I turn 30 but now,” she noted boldly.

Lesotho was the Focus Country for the 10th CII EXIM Bank Conclave. How did you conceived that occasion to endorse your country among Indian business houses and investors?

We were indeed honoured to be presented with this opportunity to share with the Indian business community the investment opportunities that Lesotho can offer. We expect this to go a long way in attracting Indian investor and of Asia in general to take advantage of these opportunities.

Ministry embellishes “To create and maintain a more equitable and enabling environment for industrial, agri-business and commercial development”. What strategies and policies are being inherited to achieve this?

The objective of Lesotho is a development strategy to promote and accelerate economic growth along the path that generates decent jobs. Lesotho is the only country in Africa to be using the Catalyst solution with assistance from New Zealand; this as you may know is used in the pacific, Canada and United States to put our registration and other post registration activities online. This is indeed a giant step and meant to make it easier to do business in Lesotho. We hope it will confirm our commitment.

We are also taking deliberate efforts to construct more factory space and other infrastructure to attract a diverse number of industries. The country also has a number of incentives for investors.

Put some light on the investment and multilateral trading system environment of Lesotho.

Lesotho remains a strong proponent of multilateralism to manage globalization and remains active in ensuring that the interests of developing countries especially LDCs are addressed. Lesotho is a member of the WTO and host of other global bodies. And currently work hard to meet the obligations under the Trade Facilitation Agreement and

other Agreements. We are undertaking reform and automating our services, we will this month be launching a trade portal, where all the information for traders will be displayed. Our recent trade policy review shows that Lesotho

as a country and as part of SACU is complying with its obligations under the WTO. The nature of the global competition has changed. Comparative advantage no longer determines success in international trade. A combination of factors, that include self-discovery, purposeful intervention and building of productive capacities are at play.

What are the sectors where Lesotho can provide impressive opportunities for Indian investors?

Faster growing exports in the world today are non-resource based manufacturers, with medium and high tech. investment in human capital, research and innovation and technology, agriculture, agro processing, Plant and agriculture machinery assembly, information and communication technology, pharmaceuticals, textiles and apparel.

How is your country co-operating with its immediate neighbours for strengthening and fostering regional peace?

Lesotho is a member of SACU and SADC, we also have bilateral agreements with South Africa, Botswana and others. Our agenda in the region mainly focuses on building trade and investment relations: building regional markets, enhancing production capacities, cross border infrastructure etc.

How do you see Africa growing and what is your perspective on your country’s role in its development as an economic and political power?

Africa remains the only continent that still has potential for development and we are placing Lesotho appropriately with the reform to make it easier to do business and hence be a leading reformer and improve our trade and investment.

Lesotho offers investors a dynamic and business environment complemented by a healthy Government administered incentive regime which includes a stable social and political environment which is investor friendly. During the last visit of the Hon. Minister, Indo-Africa Times interacted with him and discussed about the healthy business environment of the country.
