EVOLUTION:

Why & how I came into this?

Page 3: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EVOLUTION:

2010

During the first automatedelections in the Philippines, the Cyberspace started tobecome a popular medium forelectoral campaigns...

...as well as, for commonFilipinos to express theiropinions, feelings or attitudestowards a certain politicalcandidate, particularly the...

PRESIDENTIABLES!

Page 6: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EVOLUTION:

2010

These aspirants for the highestexecutive position in ourcountry created their ownwebpage wherein they canbetter present themselves to

the masses. A popular &

effective mass medium during

that time was Facebook!

Page 8: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EVOLUTION:

2010

Each presidentiable has his/herown Facebook page! Throughit, the masses were able toexpress themselves by likingor by giving comments.

Page 9: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EVOLUTION:

2010

I, as a neophyte to thatinteresting medium ofcommunication, gave mybrave, careless comment to apresidential candidate...

Page 10: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EVOLUTION:

2010

by giving a comment implying

that I don’t like someone like a

“Warcraft Abomination” to

rule our country.

Page 11: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EVOLUTION:

2010

To my surprise, someone

replied that the one I’m

targeting with that comment

might slaughter me!

Page 12: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EVOLUTION:

2010

Such words really struck me.Although the netizen whomade that comment didn’tmention my name, it’s obviousthat it was meant for me bcoz

Page 13: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EVOLUTION:

2010

his/her comment followed after

my comment! (wasn’t able to

screenshot)

Page 14: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EVOLUTION:

2010

My Warcraft comment was notaccompanied by any picture. It’s pure text. And also, Ididn’t mention the name ofpresidentiable Noy2x Aquino.

Page 15: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EVOLUTION:

2010

For me, the message I made

was indirect. And so, the

feedback to my message was

also indirect!

Page 16: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EVOLUTION:

I have 4 more examples...

Page 17: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #1

Page 18: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #1:

2011

I was employed in Capiz StateUniversity as a teacher. In oneof my classes, I commentedsomething about a politicianwho endorsed a laundry soap.

Page 19: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #1:

2011

I told my students that it was

ridiculous for a politician to

become a product endorser.

Page 20: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #1:

2011

The following day, as I was

walking along the corridor, a

group of students were talking

and didn’t greet me. I overheard

one of them saying...

Page 21: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #1:

2011

“Dapat guid man labhan jang

mantsa (That stain should be

washed away).”

Page 22: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #1:

2011

With that, I remembered my

“laundry soap” comment &

couldn’t help to relate that to

it. It was again told indirectly!!

Page 23: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #2

Page 24: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #2:

2012

I created this amateur

painting...

Page 25: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #2:

2012

This masterpiece has no name, but it illustrates a person (me)who tried to sail from oneplace/political party toanother.

Page 26: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #2:

2012

To interpret, the blue land with

yellow pyramid & a sphinx

represents Capiz & the Liberal

Party. (Note: Capiz is the birthplace & stronghold

of the Founder of LP in the Philippines)

Page 27: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #2:

2012

The land at the oppositedirection represents a rivalpolitical party and my LandPromised (Las Piñas). Iwanted to be there!...

Page 28: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #2:

2012

But the painting depicts that I

was tossed back again to the

land of the Liberals... I posted

this artwork on my FB wall.

Page 29: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #2:

2012

On Sunday of that week insidethe church, there was this guysitted on the direction facingwhere I was facing. He waswearing a t-shirt with letters

Page 30: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #2:

2012

enough to be seen from the

distance where I was. It says,

“Out of the blue!”

Page 31: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #2:

2012

Has it something do again withthe artwork I publicized just afew days ago? It seems that itwas again meant for me?... Amessage sent indirectly!!!

Page 32: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #3

Page 33: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #3:

2013

Earlier this year, I had heavyfeelings towards my liberalsuperiors. So one time, Iwasn’t able to stop myself toexpress that feeling.

Page 34: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #3:

2013

I made it by making anecdotes

in the form of text messages

which I forwarded to some few

students.

Page 35: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #3:

2013

In that story, I compared mysuperiors to cruel (yellow)dogs and I was the poorhousemaid being growled atand gnawed to death.

Page 36: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #3:

2013

On February 2, 2013 (Saturday),I was sent by my superiors toDumarao Central School foran extension activity. Duringmy turn of

Page 37: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #3:

2013

speaking, a teacher interruptedfor awhile and told the pupilsan anecdote about certainhouse & farm animals. Shesaid that dogs

Page 38: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #3:

2013

are useful guards against

animals like goats & pigs

tending to mess up with their

master’s yard. (Oh I have started tobecome fat again during this time...)

Page 39: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #3:

2013

Whether or not it hassomething to do with mycellphone messages, thepattern of messages was thesame – fabled anecdotes...

Page 40: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #3:

2013

And I consider it a response to

my “yellow dogs” anecdote

which I sent to my students.

Another indirectness!!!

Page 41: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

WRONG TURNActually, upon my unwillful return to the blue land

of yellow masters a few months after my FBcomment against the now President BenignoSimeon “Noynoy” Cojuanco Aquino III (August2010), I have started to monitor any subliminalmessage which I can connect to the horrifying“slaughter” comment received from thepresident’s FB page during the campaign periodof year 2010. Understanding “between-the-line”verbal & written messages can increase one’sheedfulness and avoid EXPLOSIVE assails toboth physical and moral being. Because of it, I’vewritten every words I could get from thetelevision, internet & daily life interactions which Icould connect to that unforgettable comment. Anotebook was born out of those reckonings. Butsad to say, due to some unspeakable pressures,

Page 42: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #4

(EXPLOSIVE eXPERIMENT)

Page 43: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #4:

2014

Back again to where it all

began... Facebook!...

I conducted a dangerous

experiment...

Page 44: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #4:

2014

I created a Facebook Accountnot bearing my real name &identity. I used this account tocreate an EXPLOSIVEmessage against another “L”

Page 45: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #4:

2014

...person. I’ve known her for

years and she also knows me

personally. She is superior to

me.

Page 46: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #4:

2014

For security purposes, allow

me not to reveal to you this

EXPLOSIVE message I’ve

composed...

Page 47: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #4:

2014

...because as expected, it again

gained negative replies which

included grave threats (just

like my 2010 FB mishap).

Page 48: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

EXAMPLE #4:

2014

My only point to that fourth

example is that... This

experiment verified the

foundation of this principle:

Page 49: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

1st Principle of the Volcanic Eruption Communication Model

“There are messages indirectly

sent (Tamis).

There are messages indirectly

received (Tamir).”

Page 50: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

2nd Principle of the Volcanic Eruption Communication Model

“Not all messages are directly

sent (Nomads).

Not all messages are directly

received (Nomadr).”

Page 51: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

That simple realization remindsme of the CommunicationModels I’ve learned in college.Yet, it seemed that none ofthose bears the framework Ihave concocted:

Notice the figures?

(Seems like a natural

phenomenon...)

Page 55: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

Obviously, it’s also a natural

tendency of human beings...

Page 56: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

...to communicate indirectly!

(paralanguage, subliminal

messages, etc.)

Page 57: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

...and respond to EXPLOSIVE

messages!

(especially if intended upwards)

Page 58: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

DISCLAIMER: I didn’t mean to go against Liberal Party nor against my co-

workers in CapSU. They have just been part of my 4 years of discreet

vigilance and reckoning. I don’t want to be their enemy nor of anyone else!

The last experiment, though it gained attention, was only posted on the

wall of that secret account. It was not even spread. Even the witnesses to

that explosive message can testify that such post was not shared to anybody

else’s wall. It was not tagged. The experimenter did not mean to spread

that message. Again, it was posted on the wall of that secret FB account

only. And it was deleted after 10 minutes. Yet, the violent comments lasted

for about 6 hours. I just tested if someone could notice my explosive post on

that account because out of hundreds of FB friends, only few of them (not

even exceeding 20) made likes on my former positive posts prior to that

explosive message. I just wanted to know if my FB friends can really see

my posts or are just ignoring it. LESSON LEARNED: NOT ALL FB

FRIENDS ARE REAL FRIENDS. THERE ARE FB FRIENDS WHO ARE

FOES!

Page 59: Volcanic Eruption Communication Model (Final Revision)

Before I conclude, let me share

to you my poem which bears

the name of my

Communication Model...

THE VOLCANIC ERUPTIONCOMMUNICATION MODEL POEM

Volcano, the sender

Pyroclastics, the message

From the inner and under

Explodes the great rage!

Space, the medium

Sky, the receiver

Of this mad pandemonium

Towards up, up, up there!

But touched not directly

The target of utterance

And pyros echoed to thee

With unforestalled exuberance!
