Dallas, Texas-As the years go by

it’s unbelievable just how much

manufacturers have added the

quality of their vehicles. One

such vehicle is the all new 2013

Lexus RX 450h 5-door SUV

with all the trimming and still

priced less than $54,000. This

new Lexus is powered by a

proven 3.5 Liter 24-valve,

DOHC V6 with VVT with front

electric drive motor with Lexus

Hybrid Drive. Producing 30

miles per gallon in the city an 28

on the highway, this engine is

mated to an electronically con-

trolled continuously variable

transmission with (ECVTi). Plus

electric power rack and pinion

steering for further handling

enhancements. The new Lexus

also has four-wheel power

assisted ventilated front and

solid rear disc brakes. All this

rolls to the ground on P 235/60R

18” All-Season tires circulating

around a set of 18” Aluminum

Alloy wheels.

It seems like only a few years

ago when Lexus introduced the

first crossover vehicle and since

that time these Hybrid models

have set a new standard when it

comes to affordable quality in an

automobile. Yet the automaker

has been able to keep the price

down as the quality continues to

rise.

Inside the new Lexus you see a

refreshed interior layout and

safety galore this model. Dual

advanced front airbags, driver

and passenger, knee airbags,

front and rear side curtain

airbags front and rear seat

mounted side airbags to name a

few. A 10-way power driver seat

and a power tilt and telescopic

steering wheel helps make you

comfortable complete with

adjustable head rest.

When it comes to stopping your

new Lexus you’ll have just as

much fun as taking off. Thanks

mainly to four-wheel anti-lock

braking system with EBD, BA

and vehicle stability controls as

well as smart stop technology.

Energy managing crumple

zones, side door beams helps to

protect you if you are unfortu-

nate enough to be in an accident.

Sounds comes from a 12-speaker

Premium Audio Package with

single DVD/CD player with HD

radio with iTunes tagging and

navigation system with voice

command, backup camera and

Lexus Enform screen multi-

media display. This also offers

destination assist and App suite,

Sirius XM NavTraffic Stocks,

Sports and weather for one full

year trial subscription.

Let me also add the new Lexus

is equipped with a Theft

Deterrent system with engine

immobilizer giving you peace of

mind. Leather trimmed interior

and one touch open/close moon

roof, power-folding electron-

ichromic heated outside mirrors

to round out some the key

options equipment.

$100 Million Investment to

Create Approximately 400 Jobs

North American Job

Announcements Total 1,500

This Year

ERLANGER, Ky. - Toyota

Motor Manufacturing Canada

Inc. (TMMC) announced today

that it will invest more than

$100 million and hire approxi-

mately 400 team members to

increase Lexus production at its

Cambridge, Ontario facility.

Overall Lexus capacity will

increase by 30,000 vehicles to

104,000 units, including 15,000

RX450h vehicles, the hybrid

electric version of the popular

Lexus.

Toyota is targeting early 2014

for expanded Lexus production.

“This is a big and ambitious

project with new technology,

exacting standards and tight

timelines,” said TMMC

President, Brian Krinock. “Our

team members have demonstrat-

ed time and time again that they

thrive on these kinds of chal-

lenges.”

TMMC currently manufactures

the Toyota Corolla, Matrix,

RAV4, RAV4 EV models and

the Lexus RX model in plants

located in Cambridge, ON and

Woodstock, ON. The company

currently employs approximate-

ly 6,500.

“The team members at TMMC

have shown tremendous dedica-

tion to creating high-quality

Lexus vehicles,” said Mark

Templin, Lexus General

Manager. “With rising demand

for our RX 450h hybrids, mov-

ing that production to an award-

winning North American plant is

great news for Lexus. We look

forward to partnering with

TMMC to continue the tradition

of manufacturing outstanding

RX luxury utility vehicles.”

Today’s announcement is the lat-

est in a string of Toyota North

American production increase

announcements since February

at plants in Indiana, West

Virginia, Kentucky, Alabama

and the second in Canada.

Cumulative investment total is

approximately $745 million and

more than 1,500 jobs are being

added.

"This Lexus production

increase, and the several

announcements before it,

reflects our growing optimism

for an improving North

American market and our intent

to localize more production,"

said Steve St. Angelo, Executive

Vice President of Toyota Motor

Engineering & Manufacturing

North America, Inc.

Toyota continues to hold on to

the lead in Hybrid Synergy

System production with more

than four million units on the

road today. The 2012 Toyota

Camry Hybrid XLE Sedan is

clearly one of the world’s finest

buys. The vehicle is powered by

a 2.5 Liter-four-cylinder DOHC

16V with VVTI and an electric

continuous variable transmis-

sion. This generates 40 miles per

gallon in the city and 38 miles

per gallon on the highway. The

expected mileage will be

between 31 to 45 miles per gal-

lon depending on the driving

habits of the person behind the

wheel.

Power rolls to the pavement on

P215/55R17 17 inch tires

wrapped around 17 “Alloy

wheels. The handling is further

enhanced by electric power

steering and power assisted front

solid rear disc brakes with inte-

grated regenerative braking.

Anti-locking brakes with brake

assist and smart stop technology

as well as electronic brake distri-

bution. Or in laymen terms this

baby stops smoothly and swiftly

on demand.

When it comes to safety the new

Toyota Camry is again at the top

of the class. It starts with a five

star rating for driver in frontal

crashes and a four star rating for

passengers in frontal crashes. On

the side crashes the Camry gets

five star rating for both front and

rear seat riders and a four star

roll over rating by the NHTSA.

With 10 air bags including knee

and side seat mounted air bags

to make it clearly one of the

safest vehicles in its class.

Once you are inside the new

Camry you see a nearly perfect

layout with easy to read gauges

and the knobs and driver friend-

ly. A dual-Zone auto climate

control display audio 6.1 touch

screen with Am/FM/CD with

MP3/WMA with auxiliary jack,

USB with iPod connectively and

Bluetooth. The optional JBL has

a seven-inch touch screen with

10-speakers and 90-day free trial

satellite radio and much more in

the works when it comes to nav-

igation and backup camera.

The leather package includes

leather trimmed with ultra-suede

seats and door trim with seat

back pockets.

Other feature of the Camry

includes Multi-stage heated driv-

er and passenger front seats with

four-way power adjustable front

passenger seat. A power tilt/slide

moon roof and wheel locks

rounds out the special optional

equipment.

In closing let me add this vehi-

cle comes in just over $34, 00

and that’s amazing!

“I am excited to be appointed

the Chief Diversity Officer at

General Motors and to bring my

experience in promoting diversi-

ty and inclusion to this world-

class organization. For me,

Diversity and Inclusion is all

about improving the business.

To be the best, you need to

attract and empower the best

and brightest talent – and lever-

age that talent to drive innova-

tion and optimize workplace

performance.

To that end, it is critical to

attract, recruit, develop, mentor

and retain a diverse workforce.

Diversity encompasses all the

different traits, attributes and

perspectives each one of us

brings to the organization. It is

not just counting heads, but

making heads count. Being

empowered to bring differing

perspectives forward, spawning

new ideas and driving innova-

tion is where the next game-

changer will come. Positioning

General Motors to capitalize on

the diversity drivers inherent in

our global workforce is essential

as we move forward.

Again, it is great to be joining

GM’s winning team! I look for-

ward to building on the solid

diversity and inclusion founda-

tion GM has set in place, as well

as meeting the employees, cus-

tomers and other key stakehold-

ers that keep GM driving for-

ward.”

Hey Houston are you fed up

with your love life? If your love

life is not what you want and

you feel no love life is better

than being involved, you are not

alone. I received a letter from a

young lady, and I say young, she

was in her upper twenties. She

kept stating that she could not

stand men, and that all men are

dogs, and she had some pretty

choice words and seem to be

sticking to her guns. Her way of

dealing with it at this point was

to have a stiff drink with her sis-

ter and take men out of the

equation all together, and every-

thing would be just fine. That

maybe OK for the evening, but

tomorrow is a new day with new

situations. Sometimes not being

in a relationship for awhile can

help, as sometimes we need to

just focus on ourselves, our chil-

dren and our family. Believe it

or not a man or a woman is not

a necessity. It is essential for a

normal love life, but not for us

to love life. Sometimes our self

esteem can be ruined because of

some jerk. In her letter she

recalled an incident where she

talked to a guy over the phone,

when they met in a public place

which happened to be a club, he

acted and talked like he was

really into her but later to find

out he had blew her off to be

with some other female he just

met, and did it without remorse

in front of her as if she didn’t

exist. Has this ever happened to

you? I know it’s happened to me

so it’s not just men who can be

jerks, and I know it can hurt.

There will be times that every-

thing goes right with our rela-

tionships and quest for love,

then with the roses also comes

the thorns and you are bound to

get stuck sooner or later. You

can’t let one or two bad apples

ruin the whole barrel if you

know what I mean. And you

can’t go into another relationship

bringing baggage from a previ-

ous one. When you meet some-

one new you have to give them

the benefit of the doubt or it will

never make it off the runway

and into the air. So I can under-

stand taking a break from time

to time to regroup, but you can’t

give up and hate all others of the

opposite sex. Hmmm... what’s

the alternative - sometimes you

have the same problems, if you

catch my drift.

Recently on “In The Love

Corner” which you can listen to

every Wednesday at 8:00 pm, we

talked about why Women cheat?

This sensitive subject lead to a

very detailed and interesting

extensive conversation. Some of

the points to name a few were

that some women are just

cheaters, some do it for revenge,

lack of attention and lack of inti-

macy just to name a few. For an

evening of great music and love

talk join me and my co host EZ

and special guest on Wednesday

nights on AM 1430 KCOH.

The top love songs of the month

are 1. Get Here Oletha Adams 2.

Sparkle Cameo 3. I will Always

love you Whitney Houston 4.

Baby I’m Ready Gerald Levert

5. Easy Commodores.

Also like to thank Htown, GI

and Shazam for stopping by the

studio and letting us be one of

the first to play their new release

# One Facebook Friend. You can

check it on KCOH nightly.

So until next time

Houston, Texas-While in town

for the 103rd convention of the

NCAAP, the executives from

General Motors put together a

fantastic dinner at Quattro

Restaurant inside the Four

Season Hotel. Thanks to Jocelyn

K. Allen, GM Grassroots and

Diversity Communication, the

dinner was great plus and

allowed those smaller publica-

tions like A King-Size View an

opportunity to take part in the

process. Among the people from

GM who were present was

Gloria Tostado from the GM

South Central Region

Communications office in Dallas

as well as Vivian Rogers Pickard

who’s President GM Foundation

Director of Corporate Relations.

All very pleasant people to talk

with us and we look forward to

building a strong working rela-

tionship with the big automaker.

Certainly Dan Moon is doing a

wonderful job of handling the

logistics for GM product line at

ESI in Dallas. However this

night was for GM to introduce

their newly appointed Chief

Diversity Officer Ken Barrett.

The 28 year Naval Officer is hit-

ting the ground running and we

were impressed with his opening

remarks. Making it clear inclu-

sive is the word they want to

hear a lot of from this newly

created position and GM has a

good reputation as it relates to

the small segment of the market

place. It certainly brings back

memories for me when I see the

new Malibu and Impala on the

road and in the coming edition

we will have more news from

GM on some of the people who

are involved in the designing of

these new and exciting products.

We must admit this is a great

feeling seeing GM in this light

and we hope to make the most

of it.

We are honored to announce that

our King-Size Mover and

Shaker for the month of July is

Mr. Ronnie Coleman. After a

successful career in the NFL,

Ronnie met and married the lady

of his dreams, Mrs. Julia

Coleman. They have been mar-

ried for 27 years and have five

children. He and his wife are

both ordained ministers.

Together they have several min-

istries to include: a Relationship

Ministry and an Outreach

Ministry. Both ministries are

very powerful and effective. Mr.

Coleman and his wife have also

traveled extensively in Africa

and in 1982 they visited Haiti

during the reign of Papa Doc

Duvalier.

Mr. Coleman stated that “he has

also been an educator and retired

after 25 years of service”. His

career in education started at

Strake Jesuit. After his time

there he spent many years in the

Houston Independent School

District, where he taught and

coached at Wheatley,

Washington High School, and

Welch Middle School. He also

stated that he “worked in the

Alief, Katy, and Spring Branch

school districts before he

retired”.

Currently, Mr. Coleman is busy

helping two of his children pro-

mote a song they wrote entitled

“Go and Vote”. They have also

written several books together in

an effort to get young people out

to vote and to help re-elect our

president. Mr. Coleman added

that “the sales from the song and

the books will help with voting

rallies across the nation”. For

anyone who would like to pur-

chase a book or volunteer in

their voting efforts, he provided

the following email addresses:

[email protected] and

[email protected].

In the future Mr. Coleman stated

that “he would like to expand

his role in the NFL by mentoring

young professional football

players”. He also plans to com-

plete his own book “Third

Down and Goal”. The book is

about how at 10 years old he

started drinking homebrew

and now he has been sober for

28 years. He added that “yes it

would include some details

about his football playing days

with the Houston Oilers”.

Missouri City, Texas-For the

fourth time retired technical

engineer Ronald Odom has won

the King-Size View Name This

Car Contest. Odom who has

been a long time reader of KSV

says he is glad the paper in on

line and it gives him something

to do and he just loves taking in

the prize money and shopping at

Fiesta as well. “I started reading

A King-size View when my chil-

dren were at Willowridge High

School and the paper has such

great high school sports cover-

age”. Mr. Odom noticed the Car

Contest where you can simply

name the year, make and model

of the vehicle in the photo and

win $125.00 and $50.00 in Gift

Cards to shop at Fiesta. “It’s a

good feeling reading all the pos-

itive news in this publication

and I enjoy it very much”. Mr.

Odom went on the air with

Tommy D. Armstrong and told

the Saturday evening listeners he

is looking forward to try his luck

at the next car as soon as the

paper comes out.

With a struck of luck rolling for

him Mr. Odom won a Mini-

Cooper in a TV 39 and radio sta-

tion when he guessed correctly

and then was lucky enough to

have the keys to the new car in

the T-shirt he won.

But we now have our first win-

ner in the Dallas Metro-plex as

King-size View expanded to five

more Fiesta stores in the

Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Remember all you have to do is

simply give us the name, make

and model of the vehicle in the

photo and you win. It’s just that

simple. If you are the first to

guess correctly you win. The

number to call is (281) 999-

4244. Go ahead and pick-up the

phone because you could be our

next winner!

Memphis, Tennessee-On

Wednesday August 1st at the

Memphis Hilton Hotel the Jus’

Blues Music Foundation will

hold their annual “Night of the

Living Legends” award cere-

monies celebrating Blacks in

Blues. This year the group have

selected Houston’s A King-Size

View publisher (King) Arthur

Prayther as the President’s

Award winner.

The publication is in its 15th

year and is sponsored by Fiesta

Mart Inc. and is primarily circu-

lated at 16 Fiesta Stores in

Houston and five more in the

Dallas Metro-plex. This month

the publication increased it out

put to 35,000 copies as well as

the World-Wide Web presence at

www.kingsizeview.com.

“When we received the email

from Mr. Charles Mitchell we

couldn’t believe it” said King

Arthur. “This is a pleasant sur-

prise to say the least and we are

honored to be in the presence of

such musical legends”. But for

those of you, who know the

King, knows he will make the

most of the opportunity and

bring back interviews to

Houston, Texas.

After meeting Soul and Blues

legend Ernie Johnson in 2007,

the King and E J have come

together on several projects.

The most of which is Johnson

and his big nine- piece Hot and

Steamy Band doing a series of

tributes to Soul and Blues greats

who have gone on to Glory

Land. It’s all part of Fiesta

Black History Celebration each

year in February with the honors

done for Johnnie Taylor, Otis

Redding, Wilson Pickett, Sam

Cooke and Tyrone Davis, with

plans of doing more. In addition

to that Johnson and the King

have also worked together to

produce some catchy radio spots

for Fiesta. Johnson also has a

song “Congratulation Mr.

President” praising President

Barack Obama for the passing of

the Health Care Bill.

Interested parties can go to

www.kingsizeview.com and

click on to Fiesta Festival per-

formances and see one of the

latest shows E. J. paying tribute

to Tyrone Davis back in

February 2012.

Please take a look at some of the

photos that kind of gives you an

ideal of just how the King has

been involved in the community

over the years we think it will

bring back memories!

Plain and simple, nothing makes

me happier than the end of July.

This means dear readers that

August begins another football

season and hopes and dreams of

success fill the hearts of fans all

across the fruited plains.

Everyone has a deep dream that

this is their season; the one that

they have waited for all their

lives. By the first of February,

January and December, pro, col-

lege and high school fans will

watch someone else celebrate

and the tears of disappointment

will occupy the faces of every-

one. Then the long, hard off sea-

son and the wait to August

begins. But our August is here

and happiness is seen on football

fans everywhere. Reading our

pre season magazines hoping to

give our dreams a doze of reality

is the talk at water coolers all

over the country. I was asked by

a fan of the newspaper what I

would do to make my team a

winner. I told him to read the

next edition of A KING SIZE

VIEW and I would provide the

answer. Now first let me say at

each level, the only way to have

a possible winner is to have out-

standing players, a great coach-

ing staff and a support staff that

all have one goal-winning! Now

I must add that even having

those things may increase your

chances of winning but it does-

n’t guarantee it. Great teams

have failed to win champi-

onships. So as stated at the top

of this column, here is the way I

see it.

A quarterback must be in place-

Unlike athletes in key positions

in other sports, a quarterback is

essential to the success/failure of

a team. He is the team leader, a

person everyone counts on when

the game is on the line and a big

play is needed to win. The coach

counts on him to keep everyone

focused on the job at hand and

his leadership is the main key

towards winning.

A defensive leader: middle line-

backer-Simply put this is the

physical leader of the team. He

takes a lot of punishment but

gives even more. He is always

hurt, but he never leaves the

field. He yells at the defense and

offense players. He is a coach on

the field, in the sideline and in

the locker room. A middle line-

backer asks for no sympathy and

he gives none.

A receiver that makes big/small

plays-A great receiver has two

simple roles; make the big catch

every game and yet make the

simple catch that doesn’t make a

lot of conversations but when

you look at the film those catch-

es paid dividends that help seal

the win. He must make key

blocks to help secure first downs

and he must bail out his quarter-

back when the pass rush is about

to wreck havoc on the offense.

A defensive end that seeks and

destroys the quarterback-A great

defensive end has only one role;

rush the pocket and sack the

quarterback. He must attack,

attack, attack all the time. He

must be relentless and simply

put a very mean man. He may

be pound for pound the best

conditioned athlete on the team.

A kicker with no nerves-Watch

the loneliest player on the team

as he sits and waits until his

name is called. He practices with

the holder by himself. He must

be relaxed ready to contribute

when asked. The weather condi-

tions could be sunny, rainy, and

cold with snow and or biting

with gusty wind. Sometimes the

kicker must kick with the game

on the line. He must produce

when he is called. The clock is

about to strike zero. The kick is

in the air……..

A head coach that pushes the

right buttons-A head coach must

be leader, teacher, parent and

enforcer along with other roles

all into one. He doesn’t sleep for

several months at a time, must

be careful regarding is diet and

be very careful with his health.

He must trust his assistant

coaches to develop a top game

plan implement it and be pre-

pared to make changes when

everything is going wrong. He

must be able to go with his

hunches when everyone warns

him it won’t work. He must

know which players to trust and

replace –players that aren’t pro-

ducing. He must face the public

and accept the criticisms for fail-

ures and be humble after wins.

He must have that fire in his

belly to wake up the nest day,

ready to compete.

Trust me there be more to add to

this list. As I stated earlier, noth-

ing is guaranteed for success but

if none of the listed items are

present and this one is not there,

the desire to win, then it won’t

and I repeat won’t happen. Give

me a team that all want to win

and work hard at everything

they do, they’ll win. Maybe not

on the field, but in life itself. I’ll

take life winners every time.

That’s just the way I see it!

Beaumont, Texas-Graduating

number 42 in a class of 179,

Alexander Brown didn’t sit and

wait to be given a scholarship;

he went down to Beaumont’s

Lamar University and walked on

to the team. The talented offen-

sive lineman was a four year

varsity player at Booker T.

Washington High School and

one of his high lights was to

beat Jack Yates in the 7th

Annual Fiesta Booker-Bryant

Memorial Classic 14-13. Brown

said it was tough those first

three years when they lost to

Jack Yates. “We kind of thought

we could have beaten them my

junior year but it didn’t work out

but as seniors we really felt we

were going to win that game.

The mild-manner young man is

the son of Sharon Peavy and

Nelson Brown and says having

the Peavy name simply means a

little pressure. “Well I wanted

to make sure I lived up to the

name and worked hard and will

continue to do so”. When asked

if he would do anything different

in life if given an opportunity to

start over he replied, “No sir; I

feel I’ve done pretty good and

I’m excited to win the Fiesta

Booker-Bryant Memorial

Classic Scholarship because it

can help me get in school and

take some of the load off my

parents”.

We moved on to ask what it

means to have our first African

American president. “When Mr.

Obama won it showed that

blacks can be whatever they

want to be in life if we work

hard at it”. Brown who knew a

coach and a former Booker T.

Washington players at Lamar,

that helped him make his mind

up. But he also liked the cam-

pus and the fresh start of the

program and a chance to grow

with them. Having played varsi-

ty since the 9th grade at

Washington, he knows what it’s

like to start from scratch. “I

love the campus and the city

because I truly like the small

town country like setting Lamar

has to offer.

English was his favorite subject

at Washington but he plans to

major in Accounting because of

his love for the classes he took

at Washington and he feels it

challenging also. Poetry gets the

big guy’s attention as well and

he says he and his friends work-

out and have some good times

doing things together.

Moving to Beaumont next

month Brown says he going to

miss his usher job at South

Union Missionary Baptist

Church but he says what he

learned in the services will

always be with him.

If he could change anything he

says his senior year at BTW he

felt the fans support wasn’t what

he thought it could have been.

“I’d say we were probably at a

seven and I felt there could have

been more of an effort to get our

student body more into our

games”. He added everyone

was very excited about going

into the Jack Yates game and felt

the Eagles had a chance to win.

In closing Brown said he would

like to have his own sports

apparel store so he could give

back to the community!

Throughout time our troops have

sought the comforts of home

while on the battlefield. During

the Civil War soldiers on both

sides carried hardtack (a brittle

biscuit with little taste) which

was easy to carry and served as

quick nutrition. During World

War I our troops survived on

Reserve Rations. In 1941 K-

rations were introduced. Made

from crackers, hard sausage and

candy bars these meals provided

nutrition and calories but little

else. In the early 1980’s our

troops were given the MRE or

Meals, Ready to Eat. None of

these meals were particularly

appetizing but they did provide

the basics of nutrition.

During World War II, Korea and

Viet Nam soldiers looked for-

ward to goodies sent from home.

In some cases they were reward-

ed with homemade cookies or

other goodies provided by their

loved ones. Often by the time

the treats were received they had

deteriorated to the point that

they were unable to be eaten and

had to be tossed.

Our fighting men today have

much different conditions. The

heat of the dessert, insects, and

mobility issues create the need

for a different type of reward.

Fortunately there are many

ready to serve snacks available

packaged and easy to carry.

Unfortunately, there is not

always available. Someone to

send the goodies to them.

Operation Lone Star-Texans

Supporting Our Troops is one of

several organizations that are

determined to bring a little home

to the troops as they serve in a

foreign and hostile atmosphere.

Founded by Jim Conley,

Operation Lone Star-Texans

Supporting Our Troops is dedi-

cated to remembering our troops

and the sacrifice that they make

for us every day.

(Quoted form the Operation Lone

Star-Texans Supporting Our

Troops web site) Unfortunately,

in this 10th anniversary year of

the terrorist attacks of September

11, many Americans have forgot-

ten our brave heroes who paid the

ultimate price as well as those

who are still fighting the Taliban,

Al Qaida, and other terrorists

around the world. These men and

women should never be forgot-

ten.

We’ve praised the Greatest

Generation of World War II.

We’ve finally recognized the vet-

erans of Korea, otherwise known

as the Forgotten War, and those

honorable men and women of the

Vietnam War who chose to stand

for their flag rather than flee like

cowards to another country.

This generation of Warriors is

different. They are all volunteers.

They enlisted because it was the

right thing to do. They are heroes

in the truest sense of the word.

I spent a week with my son

before his unit, the 2nd Battalion,

7th Marine Regiment, deployed

to Iraq in 2007. I had the honor

and pleasure of meeting his

Marine buddies, a fine group of

young men. All volunteers. All

eager to do what they had been

training for. In spite of the risks

involved, and the sacrifice of

being away from their families, I

didn’t hear a single one say he

didn’t want to go.

Seven months after coming

home, having lost several mem-

bers of their battalion in Iraq, 2/7

deployed to Afghanistan. I again

spent the week before the deploy-

ment with my son and his Marine

brothers. As they were waiting

for hours at the staging area I

heard not a single one say he did-

n’t want to go. For some this was

their second, third, and fourth

deployments. Obviously they’d

rather be home with their fami-

lies, but they took a solemn oath

to defend the country they love.

My daughter deployed to Iraq

with the Army’s 810th Military

Police Company in 2009. As with

my son, I spent several days with

her prior to the deployment. I met

her buddies, non-commissioned

officers, and her commanding

officer. They were ready to do

their job. No complaints. No

arguing. They were ready.

Sandy, Operation Lone Star-

Texans Supporting Our Troops’s

Secretary/Treasurer has had the

same experiences. Her son, a

Marine sergeant, also deployed to

Iraq in 2009. She saw that same

willingness to do what was right,

to do what needed to be done.

Her daughter-in-law, also a

Marine sergeant, is currently

deployed aboard USS Kearsarge

off the coast of Libya. She and

her unit were ready to go. A few

months after her return, Sandy’s

son will deploy to Afghanistan.

Watching our loved ones, which

includes their buddies who are

now also our sons and daughters,

board those buses and drive away

is the hardest thing we’ve ever

had to do. But because we love

and support our heroes, we’ll be

there again if necessary.

We have to do whatever it takes

to make our friends and neigh-

bors remember these True

Americans, the hearts and souls

of our country. Today’s warriors

have been described as the best

our country has to offer. Let’s

keep them, and the military per-

sonnel serving all over the world,

in the hearts and minds of every-

one in this great country of ours.

Let’s fly those flags, attend cere-

monies, and donate to causes

such as Operation Lone Star-

Texans Supporting Our Troops

and other military support organ-

izations who provide much need-

ed support for our troops.

What is Operation Lone Star-

Texans Supporting Our Troops

doing to help? Suring a recent

talk with Secretary Sandy

Alexander, she explained that

they are attempting to provide

our troops with as many luxury

items as possible. By that she

means trail mix, DVDs, beef

jerky, reading material, pow-

dered drink mix and clean socks.

As small as these items seem to

us they mean a lot to a soldier in

the dessert or on a ship in a war

zone. As we wind down our

efforts in Iraq, there are still

thousands of troops in

Afghanistan that need some love

from home.

In order to achieve these goals

Operation Lone Star-Texans

Supporting Our Troops raises

awareness at events such as the

annual “Impact a Hero” run and

walk. They will also be at the

Houston Hot Sauce Festival that

will be held in Stafford on

September 15th and 16th. What

is most needed are donations of

the items listed above as well as

other ready to serve food items

(fruit cups, snack bars packaged

nuts and items that do not

require refrigeration or prepara-

tion). They can also use base-

balls; cool down collars and toi-

letry items. (Please note that any

literature or video items must be

family friendly due to

Government regulations and the

protocols set by the foreign gov-

ernments where our troops are

serving.)

Also needed, of course, is the

financial assistance needed to

mail these items to our troops.

Our government does not pro-

vide postage or shipping for

these groups. According to

Sandy, even unused gift cards

can be donated. Wal Mart and

other grocery cards can be used

to make purchases of needed

items.

Another suggestion is to hold an

Operation Lone Star-Texans

Supporting Our Troops drive at

your school or workplace

instead of the gift exchange that

nobody really wants. With

Thanksgiving coming up in a

couple of months, giving thanks

for our fighting men and women

is a great way to celebrate.

As we end one school year and

begin another we have a very

special young man to profile in

this Fiesta Student of the Week.

He’s Jamespaul Tristian Bryant

who just finished from Jack

Yates as Mr. Yates. Bryant fin-

ished with a 3.3 grade point

average and number 30 in a

class of 246 as a graduating sen-

ior. “It was an honor to serve as

Mr. Yates and to have the other

students at our school look up to

me”. The mild mannered young

man went on to say he felt using

the knowledge taught to him by

his parents and it played a big

role in his life. “They taught me

to do what I’m supposed to do

when you suppose to do it and

things have a way of working

out with God’s help”.

The handsome lad is the son

Scherra and Tim Bryant and is

the grandson of the legendary

James “Bear”Bryant who led the

Booker T. Washington Eagles to

the state semi-final in 1968,

becoming the first predominate-

ly black high school to do so in

the University Interscholastic

League. He is also the Bryant in

the Fiesta Booker-Bryant

Memorial Classic which is

scheduled to be played on

October 26, 2012 this year.

Jamespaul went on to say he is

inspired when he played in the

game the past three years know-

ing the game honors his grandfa-

ther. We also learned that it was

Bear Bryant who named

Jamespaul and the legend lives

on. Fact is his older brother Tim

Bryant is Mr. Prairie View and

his younger brother Titus started

as a freshman at Jack Yates and

is figured to be one of the best

lineman of all-times before he is

done.

Word is Jamespaul plans to

walk-on at P.V. this fall; the tal-

ented athlete was expected to

play receiver at Yates because

his great catching ability he had

while playing with the

Studewood Cobras, but once the

Yates coaches saw him on

defense they kept him at line-

backer and defensive end. He

went on to lead the Lions in

sacks the past two years.

In the classroom at Yates

Jamespaul favorite subject was

English and enjoys writing and

going on-line doing research on

sporting events. But at P.V. he

plans to major in Education and

Human Performance and later

even become a coach.

On the field Bryant is inspired

by Adrian Hamilton who led the

Panthers in sacks the past two

years and signed a free agent

contract with the Dallas

Cowboys. “I plan to work hard

and get a spot on this team and

with the Lord’s help I would like

to follow in Hamilton’s footsteps

and play on the next level”.

On Sundays you’’ find the

Bryant family over at Wheeler

Avenue Baptist Church where

Jamespaul is an Eagle Scout and

a member of the chapel choir.

Crediting his grandmother (Mrs.

Charlotte Kelly-Bryant) with

teaming up with his parents to

make sure he stays on the

straight and narrow path. “They

made it clear to me a long time

ago that when you work hard

and follow God’s word things

have a way of working out”.

When asked if he would change

anything at Jack Yates if given

an opportunity to be principal he

stated “No Sir; I think Miss

Sheppard is doing a wonderful

job and students are coming to

class at a much larger rate now

and Yates is certainly in good

hands”. Sheppard is the first

female to head at the historic

high school in Third Ward.

His thoughts of President Barack

Obama are clear as it is very

inspirational to see the first

African American President. “It

shows that we can actually hold

that office and I think the

President is doing a very good

job and fully expect him to be

re-elected for a second term”.

In closing Jamespaul considers

himself a man of God and is

very determined to live a good

life and showing a high standard

of character. We agree with him

because that’s just the way we

see him. By the way Jamespaul

T. Bryant is the winner of this

year’s Fiesta Booker-Bryant

Memorial Classic Scholarship.

In one of the biggest battles in a

football game is the way in

which the cheerleaders battle all

game long. Fact is the TSU

Lady Tigers cheerleaders are one

of the best in the country at get-

ting their fans into their games.

While the Lady Panthers cheer-

leaders from P.V. are just as

good, so anytime the two teams

meet sparks fly. The competition

is from horn to horn and they

never stop. Over the years we at

A King-size View have always

covered their battles and look

forward to this year’s show

down on September 1 in Reliant

7.00PM and you it’s going to be

Houston, Texas-In these days of

troubled times, one has to won-

der if the historically black uni-

versities Administrators are los-

ing their caring instincts? Fact

is the black university is special

and those of us who follow them

closely are confused to say the

least. There was a time when

we put our best foot forward and

went out of our way to make

sure we did the best when we

faced the public. But now it

would appear it’s about who’s in

my little circle I can employ and

make life better for my cousins,

despite the fact someone else

was much more qualified for the

position. Case and point would

be the historically black univer-

sities are having all kind of

problems as it relates to NCAA

rules and regulations. Is it that

they are not hiring good compli-

ance officers or is that they sim-

ply are showing a disregard for

the rules set by the NCAA?

Every time you look at the sport

news you hear about another

black school with a low gradua-

tion rates and our students are

simply not making the cut.

Could we fall for the excuse

they say they are financially

scraped and simply do not have

funds to recruit good student

athletes? These are some of the

excuses made by officials of

these universities but every time

you see them in the newspaper

they are receiving another check

and yet no one ever sees what

these grants and donations are

supposed to be doing. Fact is

it’s time for our black universi-

ties to get their act together and

educate our children the way

they once did. Money is no

longer an excuse when you take

a look at the budgets of these

schools. Wasteful spending is a

big part of the problem and no

matter how many different

coaches and administrators they

put in place the problem still

remain the same.

There use to be a time when the

black university produced quali-

ty people who went out and

made a position impact on their

communities. Ask yourself

when was the last time you saw

a good solid black college grad-

uate making a positive impact in

their community?

Part of the problem could be

major corporations simply write

checks to these universities

without following up to see just

where those funds are going.

Fact is in the past the corpora-

tions would assign someone to

watch over the funds they donat-

ed so that it went into the pro-

grams they wanted it to. In

order to help solve this problem

those same corporations are

going to have to get back to

watching what they give and

how it is used so that it will help

get our youth a fair chance at

getting a quality education.

For too long we have read about

scandal after scandal at our his-

torically black universities and

it’s clearly time for them to

clean out their act. In laymen

terms they simply need to shape

out or ship out.

Getting back to caring for the

university and its students as

well as their athletes is what it’s

going to take to get back on

track. Or could it really be that

due to the lack of caring

instincts by administrators, the

black university is losing its use-

fulness?

PRECIOUS is Time. Therefore while you have

time, use it to learn and do Gods Commandments

for at the end of life is pay time and your pay will

be according as your work has been. You will find

in 2 Corinthians 5:10 the following: “For we must

all appear before the judgement seat of Christ,

Now after reading, understand-ing, and accepting the WORDSof the Lord and Savior JESUSCHRIST; it is NOT the MANYbut the FEW. This study, as allare, is for SELF CHECKINGaccording to the WORD; forthere be few that are willing tolive a 24/7, SELF-DENYING,Christian lifestyle. So, inChristianity the old saying “themajority rules” doesn’t apply. The Word of TRUTH RULES,and there be FEW that accept IT.Contrary to what seems to be thebelief that living a Christian lifeis easy, according to Christ thisis not true; because it is a suffer-ing lifestyle of denying our sec-ular wants, fun, pleasures etc. This is why we believe accord-ing to the Word, that the words“Christian” and “Christianity”are the most miss-applied wordson earth. It was not easy forChrist, or for those that followedhim. He lived a suffering, selfdenying lifestyle while here, thatended most cruelly on the cross, for our sake. Beware of falseteachers in sheep’s clothing, which teach “Christ suffered forus, we don’t have to, and all wehave to do is believe”. Christspeaks to the contrary, for DEV-ILS BELIEVES and trembles(James2:17-26), but they WILLNOT OBEY, which takes us intothis study: IF AY MAWILL COME AFTER ME,LET HIM DEY HIMSELF

1 Pet 2:19 For this is thankwor-thy, if a man for consciencetoward God endure grief, suffer-ing wrongfully. 20 For whatglory is it, if, when ye be buffet-ed for your faults, ye shall takeit patiently? but if, when ye dowell, and suffer for it, ye take itpatiently, this is acceptable withGod. 21 For even hereuntowere ye called: because Christalso suffered for us, leaving usan example, that ye should fol-low his steps: 22 Who did nosin, neither was guile found inhis mouth: 23 Who, when hewas reviled, reviled not again;when he suffered, he threatenednot; but committed himself tohim that judgeth righteously: 24Who his own self bare our sinsin his own body on the tree, thatwe, being dead to sins, shouldlive unto righteousness: bywhose stripes ye were healed. 25For ye were as sheep goingastray; but are now returnedunto the Shepherd and Bishop ofyour souls. (KJV)

1 Pet 4:1 Forasmuch then asChrist hath suffered for us in theflesh, arm yourselves likewisewith the same mind: for he thathath suffered in the flesh hathceased from sin; 2 That he nolonger should live the rest of histime in the flesh to the lusts ofmen, but to the will of God. 3For the time past of our life maysuffice us to have wrought thewill of the Gentiles, when wewalked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, ban-quetings, and abominable idola-tries: 4 Wherein they think itstrange that ye run not withthem to the same excess of riot,

speaking evil of you: 5 Whoshall give account to him that isready to judge the quick and thedead. (KJV)

1 Pet 4:12 Beloved, think it notstrange concerning the fierytrial which is to try you, asthough some strange thing hap-pened unto you: 13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakersof Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed,ye may be glad also withexceeding joy. 14 If ye bereproached for the name ofChrist, happy are ye; for thespirit of glory and of God restethupon you: on their part he is evilspoken of, but on your part he isglorified. 15 But let none of yousuffer as a murderer, or as athief, or as an evildoer, or as abusybody in other men’s mat-ters. 16 Yet if any man suffer asa Christian, let him not beashamed; but let him glorifyGod on this behalf. 17 For thetime is come that judgmentmust begin at the house of God:and if it first begin at us, whatshall the end be of them thatobey not the gospel of God? 18And if the (1)righteous(2)scarcely be saved, whereshall the ungodly and the sinnerappear? 19 Wherefore let themthat suffer according to the willof God commit the keeping oftheir souls to him in well doing,as unto a faithful Creator. dren, it is the last time: and as yehave heard that antichrist shallcome, even now are there many(3)antichrists; whereby weknow that it is the last time. 19They went out from us, butthey were not of us; for if theyhad been of us, they would nodoubt have continued with us:but they went out, that theymight be made manifest thatthey were not all of us. Dear reader, after reading theseinstructions given by the Lordfor one to be His follower; havewe confessed, (praised) Him byapplying these things to ourlives (true Christians)? Or havewe denied Him by OT deny-ing OURSELVES thereby beingDISOBEDIENT (antichrists)?Remember the purpose of thesearticles is to seek the TRUTHaccording to THE WORD,thereby exposing ERROR,which is false doctrine, for thepurpose of saving our souls. Webelieve this is best done by defi-nitions and the PREPONDER-ANCE OF SCRIPTURES;which is having superior weight, force, importance, or influenceof SCRIPTURE. Again webelieve this allows SCRIPTUREto INTERPRET SCRIPTURE,thereby allowing a better under-standing on that topic. Thanksagain for your interest in theWORD of TRUTH; GRACEand SALVATION; John 17:17-21; Acts 20:29-32; James1:21-25. After all it is our MAP toHEAVEN, and away fromHELL!
