It is important that in order to achieve your best, that you study! Here are a few study tips to help you get the best grade you can. The first thing you can do is write down everything that is going to be on the exam on a separate sheet of paper. Writing the information on a separate sheet of paper makes it easier to remember because you had to look at it to write it down. It also helps because you focus. The next study tip is to write everything in blue ink. Blue ink stimulates the brain cells, making it easier to remember what you wrote down. Making flashcards, using on-line sites such as Quizlet, creating songs, and rhymes are also helpful ways to remember things. The final study tip is to take breaks after you study a topic. According to www.goconqr.com, None of us are superhuman, so its important to realize that you cant maintain an optimum level of concentration without giving yourself some time to recover from the work youve put in.After your break, you can quiz yourself, or have someone quiz you on that topic. This is a good point in time to select a couple of study partners who you know you work well with and are motivated to achieve good grades also, says www.goconqr.com. It will help you retain the information because it is giving your brain a chance to comprehend what you just studied. If you just study topic after topic, you are going to get confused, and forget which answer goes with which topic. These are a few tips to help you during this years semester exams. Magical musicianship performed at the winter concerts By Sammie Lobosco and Jenna Goedeke

Wranglers are definitely in the holiday spirit this year with all of the winter concerts. Students, staff, and parents were treated to multiple concerts from the music department! The tree that keeps giving By Emi Rucker and Kennedi Fredricks

This holiday season Del Webb wants to GIVE! Every student has some pocket change, and although some students don’t, everyone has a chance to give to the people that need help! Every month Del E. Webb Middle School has a Casual for a Cause which donates money to organizations or children. In November and December the Casual for a Cause is donating to the Wrangler Tree! The Wrangler Tree will be donating food and holiday gifts to students in the Clark County District who may not otherwise have a holiday celebration. Our donations can provide these students with clothing, small gifts, and food. Donating only a small amount can impact someone’s life in a tremendous way, and by helping these children through the Wrangler Tree, you may just impact someone's life in a way that’s unimaginable! Thank you Wranglers for having such a kind heart!

Price paves the way By Dallas Smith

Our Student Body President sat down to talk about his term for this school year. President Aaron Price described himself as, “Patient, hyper, trustworthy, and charismatic. ” Price said, “I want to impact the stu-dents in the best way I can for the students.” This year he wants to improve our school by holding better spirit days. He is a student that gets good grades, he’s joyful, and extroverted. He wants to set a posi-tive example for other students at our school and feels he is ap-proachable and is open to helping peers. He views Del Webb as, “..a canvas it’s only as good as you make it, but it can be exciting if you want it to be.” He challenges the students to make a good example of this school to other students and other schools.

No. Phones. Allowed.

By Dominic Aliberti, Editor

The Del Webb agenda clearly states the cell phone policy. “Students may use their phones before school, during lunch, and after school.” Well, now it is being STRICTLY enforced that the cell phone must STAY in your locker during class in-struction. Students may NOT bring their phones to class. Phones are prohibited and if a teacher sees a phone in a student’s pos-session during instruction, it will be confis-cated. Phones must stay in a student’s locker at all times no matter what (except for before school, lunchtime and after school). The rule isn’t applied until after winter break, but teachers are giving their students a fair warning before it is enforced.

Fro-yo Fridays By Sammie Lobosco and Jenna Goedeke

Swirling into Uni-versal Studios, the Multi-media program will be selling fro-yo at all lunch-es for $3 on Fridays! They are going to use the funds to take a trip to Universal Studios. The flavors

that are available are cookies and cream, watermelon sorbet, birthday cake, and sea salt caramel pretzel. The multimedia teach-er, Mr. Oliver, says that he loves teaching multimedia, and that it is his 13th year teaching it. Mr. Oliver says, “We are doing this for the multimedia because we would like to take a trip to Universal Studios!” The first week of selling has gone great! Mr. Oli-ver says, “We sold 169 fro-yo bowls, so I

think that’s an indication they like it.” So far, kids seem to be loving the yogurt, and the idea!

Student spotlight shines on Wranglers By Emi Rucker Multimedia announced that students can go to Mr. Oliver’s website to write a student spotlight! Many peo-ple are quite exuberant to finally be able to express themselves on the daily announcements for the whole school to see. Multimedia is trying to reach out to students who may want to be involved. Brianna Yarbray said, “I think this will bring new opportunities for new levels of participation! I’m so ex-cited to see what happens next.” 1. Go to the DWMS home page. 2. Go to Faculty. Search “Douglas Oliver” 3. Click on his name then go to “Multimedia Forms 4. Click on either link and read the description.

Book fair success By Krystina Fierro

Del Webb had a very suc-cessful book fair. The book fair took place December 4th through December 8th. This year’s book fair had wonderful volunteers to help restock the fair, gift wrapped books that had been pur-chased, and provided gen-eral customer service to the shoppers. The book fair was a good way to help students purchase books for themselves and their families and friends for the holidays. “I bought my brother a Harry Potter book for a Christmas!” said Wrangler Michaela Lauderdale. Some teachers even made wish lists of some books they might have en-

joyed. The book fair hoped to in-crease kids’ interest in reading and hopefully inspired students to go out and read more. Not only did the book fair have books, but it also had shirts, erasers, high-lighters, pencils, etc. The book fair provided books of all genres.

From comedy to horror to fiction there were all sorts of different books. “This year’s book fair had many great books and school sup-plies, like erasers and highlight-ers!” said Candace Tso. This years book fair was great! Hope-fully Del Webb has more to come!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! By Jenna Goedeke

Winter break is right around the corner and so are the holidays! Christmas, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa, the best time of the year! Winter break is for spending time with family, relaxing, eating, and traveling! There are many different ways to celebrate these holidays! Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners, baking, lighting the menorah at Hanukkah, and lighting the Kinara at Kwanzaa! Seventh grader at Del Webb, Khailey Vo says, “My family always decorates our house and travels to see family for Christmas.” Some families enjoy show their love for the holidays by decorating their houses! Khailey says, “We also always put up a Christmas tree every year and put fun ornaments on it.” An interesting fact about Hanukkah is that the dates always change because the holiday runs on the lunar cycle. Winter holidays are the best!!

By Isabella DeJong The holidays are coming fast, and there are probably many things that you still haven’t done. Here are a few DIY’s to get you into the holiday spirit! DIY 1: If it doesn’t snow where you live, make snowflakes with hot glue! All you need to do is print a picture of a snowflake out on a piece of paper, and put hot glue over it. Then, let the hot glue dry and peel it off the paper. Now, take a pair of scissors and cut a hole on the top of the snowflake. Finally, take a piece of string and put it through the hole on the snowflake. DIY 2: The DIY is cake pops! The recipe is simple. All you need is some

cake, blue and white frosting, blue chocolate, piping bags, and sticks. First, take your cake and crumble it up. Then, take your frosting and mix it in with your cake. The amount of frosting you use depends on how much cake you have, and how much frosting you want. Next, take your mixture and mold it into a ball. Put your cake ball on your sticks and chill it for 30 minutes. Then, take your chocolate and melt it. Take your cake pops out of the fridge and dip it in the chocolate. Once the cake pops are dipped, let them set for 10 minutes. Fi-

nally, take your frosting and put it in the piping bags. Pipe a David Shines star on the top of the cake pop and you are done!

A: Fleece Navidad! Holiday gift ideas

By Isabella DeJong

Many people have different opinions about what the best holiday presents are. Here are a few presents that are sure to make the receiver happy! Every teen would love a phone or IPad! Technology is always the way to go! If that is too costly for your budget then how about something like a drawing notebook, and a box of some good quality colored pencils? Everyone loves to draw!! If you are getting a gift for someone who likes to travel, you could get them a person-alized photo book for them to put their photos in when they travel. Finally, if you are getting a gift for a kid, they really want toys that everyone has been talking about, so do some research and find out what they best toy is, and get that for them. For people who celebrate Hanukkah, a personalized menorah( or a nor-mal menorah) is a good gift. You could also get them chocolate coins, and a Dreidel is always a good choice! Finally, if you celebrate Kwanzaa, then you could get the person you are gifting a personalized photo collage, a long sleeved sweatshirt is something you can’t go wrong with, a very tra-ditional, but classy idea is a Unity Cup. Many people celebrate different holidays, and this should help you pick out a gift for that lucky person!

2018 is

almost here!! By Sammie Lobosco

Time goes by so fast, and that means that the years do too! It feels like New Year’s 2017 was just here. New Year’s is a big holiday, and is widely celebrated all over the world. Some different New Years traditions are watching fireworks, counting down, and watching the ball drop. New Year’s is a time when you get together with your family, and you get to spend time with them. Jerzi Andersen, a 7th grader at Del Webb Middle School, said, “I like new beginnings, fireworks, and staying

up late.” She likes to spend time with people that she doesn’t usually get to see that often. Another 7th grader at Del Webb Middle School, Jaxson Findlay, said, “I like spending time with my family, traveling, and watching fireworks on my grandpar-ents’ boat.” Hopefully everyone has a safe and happy new year!

Polar bear sugar cookies By Krystina Fierro Ingredients

2 ¾ c. all-purpose flour ½ tsp. baking powder ¼ tsp. kosher salt 1 c. unsalted butter ¾ c. sugar 1 large egg 1 ½ tsp. pure vanilla extract

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking pow-der, and salt. Using an electric mixer, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Beat in egg, then vanilla. Reduce mixer speed to low and gradually add flour mixture, mixing just until incor-porated. Shape dough into 4 disks and roll

each between 2 sheets of wax paper to 1/8-inch thick. Chill until firm, 30 minutes in the refrigerator or 15 minutes in the freezer. Heat oven to 350°F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper. Using floured cookie cutters, cut out cookies. Place on prepared sheets. Reroll, chill, and cut the scraps. Bake, rotating pans half-way through, until cookies are lightly golden brown around the edges, 10 to 12 minutes. Let cool on the sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely. Outline and fill each polar bear with white royal icing, leaving the sweater area unfilled and let sit until dry. To make the noses, pipe a mound of stiff royal icing in one spot and let sit until almost dry, then press on mini brown M&Ms. Pipe on faces, then decorate sweaters as desired using royal icing and sprinkles and let sit until dry. http://

Rebel soccer kicks off to a great start By Sammie Lobosco

Our local college, UNLV, not only has a football team, but they also have a soccer team! Their women’s soccer program has done amazing the past couple years, and might even be one of the best. One of their pre-vious games against UNR, UNLV won 5-0. The University of Nevada Reno has a really good soccer program as well, so that just shows how good the UNLV women’s soccer team is. Kendra, a student at UNLV, says, “ I love having the soccer team because I like to be supportive, and cheer them on!” She has played soccer throughout her life. “I feel like I’m part of a community.” The students at UNLV are so proud of their soccer team, and their friends!

They don’t sweat, they sparkle! By Sammie Lobosco

Have you been wondering why there are people staying after school? Those were the people that were working hard to try out for cheer! The Del Webb Wrangler cheer team has officially been chosen, and there are 22 cheerleaders on the 2017-2018 cheer team. Congratulations to the following people: Ava Azucenas, Katelyn Eberwein, Madelyn Eberwein, Paige Foster, Summer Hill, Kayli Hill, Izabella Hottentot, Natalie Jud-kins, Summer Kennedy, Aniya Knight, Zoe Krincek, Carson Krincek, Ana Kulesza, Cameron Lewis, Remi Par-rotto, Aspen Pierce, Ashley Polhemus, Elina Polhemus, Taylor Rossiter, Ella Santiago, Mackenzie Shepard, and Jacklyn Thomson. Current cheerleader Aspen Pierce says, “In third and fourth grade, I did competitive cheer leading.” Aspen likes the new cheer coaches because they are open to more choreography, and they are enthusiastic. “I have been going to some tumbling classes to improve things, and I have learned my back tuck.” Aspen Pierce is super excited for this year, and ready to cheer on!

Knights skate into a brand new hockey season By Jenna Goedeke

Las Vegas is skating into the new hockey season with a professional hockey team! This past year the NHL (National Hockey League) has gained another team. So far, the Golden Knights have done amazing! It is still early in the season and all the Knights fans can not wait to see them do great in more games! The ranking for the Vegas Knights team is 6-3-1. The Vegas Golden Knights have been practicing for such little time and all the fans cannot wait to see what they have in store! Dexter Kickline, seventh grader at Del Webb, says, “I love how the Knights are doing great so early in the

season and how they are working together as a new team. It is very hard to work well with a team that was just drafted and it is amazing that the Gold-en Knights have adapted so well to the new season,” says Dexter. The Knights will hopefully continue to do so well the rest of the season!

Top FIVE silliest sports injuries By Emi Rucker

Do you love sports? Do you love funny things? Well then this article is for YOU! Here are top five SILLIEST sports injuries in the past. 1. John Smoltz

John Smoltz was an unlikely-to-get-hurt baseball pitcher who worried he may be last Tommy John pitcher in Hall of Fame. This guy tore his elbow ligament and had to undergo a surgery which, in most instances, would be a death sentence for a pitcher job. Later, he was better than before! Illuminati much?

2. Gus Frerotte, 1997

Gus Frerotte, after getting a touchdown run decided to celebrate by head-butting a wall, on purpose. Yes, on pur-pose. Well, let’s just say that wasn’t his greatest move. 3. Brandon Marshall, 2008

Maybe there’s something special about 2008 for sports injuries, but this guy really messed up! If you think put-ting your arm through an entertainment center is bad, don’t even start on that! Brandon Marshall slipped on a McDonald’s bag and ran into the entertainment center and then he smashed his arm through it!Marshall’s play

4. Brian Griese, 2002

We have all heard about the ‘dog ate my homework excuse’ (and sometimes it may be true), but what about “I was absent because my dog tripped me on the stairs.”? You’d think a football player of all people would step aside! 5. Orlando Brown, 1999

Orlando Brown was hit in the eye by a penalty flag and angrily confronted official Jeff Triplette who had thrown the flag. Brown was hospitalized for nearly a week and didn’t start playing again until 2003. He eventually sued the league for millions of dollars.
