Band Against Bullying Did you know… Over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year? Did you know that approximately 160,000 teens skip school every day because of bullying. Did you know what some Student Council students are doing to help? I met with Samantha Laska, Gina Carollo, Trinity Miller, Olivia Wujek and Alyssa Kornacki to learn what they are doing to help stop bullying in our school. The girls said that they have taken the pro-ject over from an 8th grade student from last year because they wanted to make a difference in our schools bullying issues. The girls were selling $1 bracelets in lunches for around 2 weeks. The bracelets say Being Bully Free Begins with Me! The idea was to have students purchase the bracelets and wear them and if a fellow student was being bullied, that student would have someone to come to. All the proceeds are going to PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center a center that actively leads social change, so that bullying is no longer considered an accepted childhood rite of passage. The girls want to make it known that even if you don’t think bullying is going on in our school it is and that everyone should help out those being bullied. The girls are hoping to make a difference in the lives of those being bullied and want you to help too!

Welcome Back Dance The Welcome Back dance was a huge success. This dance took place September 22, in the courtyard. We sold out and it was a very big turnout. It was a little dusty and grassy, but the weather ended up being perfect! What a fantastic night!

7th Grade Dance The 7th grade dance took place September 8th. We sold a lot of tickets! It was very successful and the 7th graders had a great time. This dance is one of the best of the year! Thanks to all our 8th grade volunteers and 7th graders. Welcome to LMS!

HEALTH OFFICE INFORMATION

Annual vision, hearing, and scoliosis screening will take place during the months of Novem-ber and December. Only those students who are unable to pass the screening will receive a notice in the mail.

INFORMATION ABOUT SCHOOL PHYSICALS

New York State Law requires physical examinations of children when they:

are new students to the district

are in grades 2, 4, 7, and 10

participate in interscholastic sports

apply for working papers

To be eligible to participate in interscholastic sports, all students must have a current physical on file in the health office prior to the start of each season. Physicals are valid for a period of 12 months through the last day of the month in which the physical was conducted.

According to state law, if any reason prevents you from having your child’s physical completed, be assured that your child will be examined in a timely manner by the school physician. Physi-cals are offered prior to each sport season as well as several dates in the spring. Parents must contact the health office between February 1

st and March 1

st if they want their child to obtain

a physical at school.

Please contact the LMS Health Office with any questions, concerns, or to schedule your

child’s physical. Contact us at 686-3225 or [email protected] before 2/1/18.

FALL FOOD TRUCK NIGHT

The sun was shining and the smell of tacos and fried dough was in the air

on Friday, October 20th at Lancaster Middle School. The National Junior Honor

Society hosted their first Fall Food Truck Night for the community. The cus-

tomers’ food might have tasted even better knowing that 10% of all food sales

went to the local Lancaster Food Pantry! There were three food trucks at the

event: Lloyd’s, House of Munch, and Anderson’s. Lloyd’s served up Mexican

food, with their tacos being the top seller. House of Munch sold carnival fare,

specifically fried dough, cotton candy, and corn dogs. Anderson’s, a local fa-

vorite, specialized in beef on weck and ice cream treats. The night was a suc-

cess, as more customers arrived as the night went on. Many thanks go to Mrs.

Godios, Mrs. Gregory, Miss Blatner, Mrs. Gramza, Coach Sinclair, Coach

Hauser, Mr. Kruszynski, and Mr. Bindemann and all of the other teachers, staff,

students and administrators for helping make this NJHS charity event a success!

WHAT IS MAKERSPACE?

You may have noticed some buzz about changes in the Middle School Library. This is our

second year running the Makerspace. We are in the midst of redefining what it is to be a li-

brary in the days of new and innovative technology.

Today the library is not just about checking out books and completing research (although we

still do quite a bit of that), it’s also about creating and inventing.

When you walk into the library you will not only observe students reading or studying, but

there is a very good chance you will see students engaging in activities. We have started

“Crafts of the Month” and are excited about getting into the fall projects. To date we have

completed several hundred handmade crafts with our students. Students have the oppor-

tunity to utilize an area of the library that we call Makerspace. A Makerspace is…

“.. A place where students can gather to create, invent, tinker, explore and discover using a

variety of tools and materials.”
