Desde hace aproximadamente un par de si-glos, la navidad representa una hermosa época del año en la que afloran los mejo-

res sentimientos de las personas y las familias se reúnen para celebrar con amor el nacimiento de Jesús, conmemoración que también gira en torno a otro de los elementos típicos para cel-ebrarlo: el árbol navideño.

aunque en nuestros días es utilizado también con fines decorativos, como muchas otras tradi-ciones que son adaptadas con fines distintos a su costumbre original, en esta ocasión tampoco debe de sorprender que -tiempo atrás- el icóni-co árbol no fuera empleado para celebrar estas fechas, sino que se adoptó así como resultado de la evangelización y el sincretismo cultural.

el roble de las de idades

en muchas antiguas civilizaciones, incluyendo la oriental y la mesoamericana, el árbol es un sím-bolo sagrado y de encuentro con la divinidad, tal como se refleja en algunas costumbres que tam-bién llaman la atención dentro de la mitología nórdica.

según cuenta la leyenda, en la alemania pre-cristiana se realizaban dos ritos. el primero se ll-evaba a cabo cada solsticio de invierno, cuando suponían que se renovaba la vida; le rendían un culto especial a odín, deidad que dentro de la mitología escandinava era considerado como “el padre de todos”.

un grupo de guerreros se reunía en torno a un gigantesco roble sagrado llamado el Divino Ygg-drasil, en cuya copa se hallaba Asgard (la morada de los dioses), el Valhalla (el palacio de odín) y en las raíces más profundas estaba Helheim (el reino de los muertos).

en torno a él, y a manera de tributo, ofrenda-ban las vidas de los prisioneros de guerra, baila-ban y cantaban, por lo que su primera conno-tación fue más bien bélica y sanguinaria. en tan-to, los antiguos germanos creían que el mundo y todos los astros estaban sostenidos pendiendo de las ramas de ese árbol; por ello, lo adornaban con antorchas que representaban a las estrellas, la luna y el sol.

el segundo rito estaba dedicado a Thor, (hijo de odín, considerado el más fuerte de todos los dioses nórdicos). en su nombre realizaban una ceremonia con pencas de palma de 12 hojas, cada una de las cuales representaba un mes del año. al finalizar la ceremonia, encendían la punta de cada hoja y apilaban las palmas en forma de pirámide, formando una hoguera en su honor.

a partir del siglo Xvii estos ritos sufrieron un cambio importante tras la llegada a alemania de un monje conocido como san Bonifacio, quien, al darse cuenta de los sacrificios humanos que practicaban los nativos en aquel roble dedicado a odín, decidió usar un abeto (género de la familia de las pináceas al que pertenece el árbol navide-ño) para evangelizarlos.

aprovechando su forma triangular, comenzó por transmitirles el concepto de la santísima trinidad (Dios padre, hijo y espíritu santo). con base en ello, poco a poco consiguió que los na-tivos se convirtieran a la religión cristiana y que empezaran a venerar este abeto como el árbol de Dios, tal como antes lo hicieron con el roble como símbolo del Dios odín.

although nowadays it is also used for decora-tive purposes, as many other traditions that were changed for purposes that are different from the original traditional purpose, in this occasion it is also no surprise that, long ago, the iconic tree was not used to celebrate christmas, but was adopted later on, as a result of evangelism and cultural syncretism.

in many ancient civilizations, including east-ern and mesoamerican civilizations, the tree is a sacred symbol of encounter with divinity, as re-flected in some customs that are also worth not-ing in norse mythology.

according to a legend, in pre-christian Ger-many, two rites were performed. The first was carried out every winter solstice, when one as-sumed that life was renewed, a special worship was surrendered to odin, a god considered as “the father of all” in norse mythology.

a group of soldiers gathered around a gigan-tic sacred oak called the Divine Yggdrasil, on top of which was asgard (the dwelling of the gods), valhalla (odin’s palace), and in the deepest roots was Helheim (the realm of the dead).

The second ritual was dedicated to Thor (son of odin, considered the strongest of the norse gods). in his name was performed a ceremony with palm tree main ribs with 12 leaves, each of which represented a month of the year. at the end of the ceremony, the tip of each leaf was lit and palms were piled in a pyramid shape, forming a fire in his honor.

since the seventeenth century these rites underwent a major change after the arrival in Germany of a monk known as saint Boniface, who realizing that human sacrifices were under-gone by the natives in that oak tree dedicated to odin, decided to use a fir tree (the Pinaceae fam-ily genus the christmas tree belongs to) to evan-gelize them.

taking advantage of its triangular shape, he began to convey the concept of the Holy trinity (God the Father, the son and the Holy spirit) to them. on this basis, he gradually got the natives to convert to christianity and had them venerate this fir tree as God’s, as they used to before with the oak tree as a symbol of god odin.

La representante de Haciendas y Casonas de Jalisco ha hecho de la promoción el eje principal de su gestión mediante las 26 experiencias en 15 destinos, “de los cuales estoy sumamente orgullosa. He conocido a cada dueño de los establecimientos y he visto grandes cualidades, fortalezas y debilidades, pero tenemos en común la pasión por el servicio, por cubrir con los lineamientos de un segmento de turismo Premium. Junto a esto, tenemos dos años con el programa Tesoros de México -un distintivo importantísimo, llevamos casi un año en capacitación, hay mistery shopper, la certificación es anual… y no a cualquier hotel se lo otorgan- y Jalisco es el estado que más distintivos tiene en el país”, destaca Sally Rangel.

También aumentamos la calidad del servicio en la oficina porque queremos que el turista conozca una experiencia diferente a las que está acostumbrado cuando va a un hotel con amenidades propias en cada establecimiento, como la ordeña de vacas, preparar ensaladas con verduras recién cortadas, disfrutar de tortillas hechas a mano… Y queremos llevar a la Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco al municipio de San Sebastián del Oeste, es una petición especial y trabajo en eso”.

“La Sierra de Quila canta

con una lira”A una buena hora y media desde Guadalajara, se llega a Teco-lotlán; y treinta y tantos kilómetros de brecha empedrada en buen estado, sube y sube entre pinos, robles y encinos hasta las rocas del Huehuentón que surgen entre el lomerío de la Sierra de Quila.Ni que decir de las vistas a lo largo del camino. A lo lejos se divisan los valles con sus pueblos reposados en el verde tostado de los campos. Una cascada en el fondo de la ba-rranca rasga en blanco el verdor de la cañada despeñándo-se entre bosques de robles y pinos. Una singular variedad del hermoso “pino triste” que lánguidamente dobla hacia abajo sus agujas, da una falsa apariencia tristona pese a ser unos arbolones fuertes y magníficos. Su nombre “Pinus lumholtzii” le viene del explorador noruego Carl Lumholtz, que a fines del 1800 a recorrió lomo de mula gran parte de México, tomando apuntes sobre flora, fauna y costumbres de los pueblos, dejando en su libro “México Desconocido” un valioso documento.Y hablando de pinos… la gente de la sierra, ingeniosamente teje las agujas de los pinos, para fabricar canastas, sombre-ros, vasijas y objetos de arte en una bonita artesanía (ocochal) que es, palabra, muy digna de verse.Importante es reconocer que ahora que Sierra de Quila fue declarada “Área de Protección de Flora y Fauna”, el personal a su cuidado está haciendo una admirable labor: Los caminos están en perfectas condiciones. La basura que se puede en-contrar es mínima. El campamento de La Ciénega, está impe-cable. Los guardias forestales enamorados de su trabajo. Las guías y educadoras merecen 10 y nota buena. Quila es pues, un bosque del que los jaliscienses podemos estar orgullosos. La misma brecha -por fortuna tan solo empedrada- cruzan-do la sierra, pasa por las cercanías de tranquilos caseríos en donde, casi ocultos en el bosque, se antoja quedarse un rato haciendo… nada, tan solo rodeados de pinos, robles y aire fresco de la montaña. Más tarde se llega al pueblo de Quila para luego, caminando otro trecho descender hasta AmecaUno de los puntos a visitar, es el enorme pino con extrañas ramas que parecieran ser una enorme lira. La otra es el pe-queño e insólito bosque Los Cedritos que escondido entre las barrancas, tiene unos arbolones cuyos troncos, casi del tamaño de una recámara pequeña, ascienden rectos hasta alturas admirables. Y donde, por contrapartida… volteando detenidamente hacia la tierra, es muy bello encontrar entre la hojarasca otros pequeños bosques miniatura con los hongos más admirables que puedan imaginar; algunos del tamaño de la palma de la mano con textura consistente y uniforme, que con tan solo tirarlos sobre la parrilla entre las brasas, con unos granitos de sal gorda encima, hummm… bocado deli-cioso con sabor a mantequilla.Belleza hay pues por todos lados; tanto para la panza como para todos los sentidos ¡Gócenla …!

The views along the way are breathtaking. In the dis-tance, you can see the valleys with their villages rest-ing in roasted green fields. A waterfall at the bottom of the ravine colors in white the greenery of the ravine tumbling through oak and pine forests. A unique vari-ety of the beautiful “sad pine” that languidly bends its needles down, gives a false sad appearance despite being strong and magnificent gigantic trees. Its name “Pinus lumholtzii” comes from the Norwegian explorer Carl will Lumholtz that traveled on the back of a mule to a large part of Mexico in late 1800s, taking notes on flora, fauna and customs of the villages, leaving in his book, “Unknown Mexico” , a valuable document

And talking about pines ... people cleverly weaves pine needles to make baskets, hats, vases, and art ob-jects in a nice craft (ocochal) that is very worth seeing.

It is important to recognize that now that Sierra Quila was declared “Flora and Fauna Protected Area “, the staff in charge of taking care of it, is doing an admirable job. The roads are in perfect condition. The garbage that can be found is minimal. Camp La Cienega, is impeccable. The forest guards love their job. Guides and educators deserve 10 and a good note. Quila is, therefore, a forest which Jalisco can be proud of.

The same path- fortunately just stoned - crossing the sierra, passes through nearby quiet villages where, almost hidden in the forest, you feel like staying there doing…..nothing, just surrounded by pines, oaks and fresh air mountain. Later, you reach the village of Quila and then walking down another stretch you arrive to Ameca.

One of the places to see is the huge pine tree with strange branches that seem to be a huge lyre. The other one is the small and unusual forest Los Ce-dritos that hidden among the cliffs has gigantic trees whose trunks, about the size of a small bedroom, as-cend straight to admirable heights. And where, on the other hand ... turning carefully toward the earth, it is very beautiful to find in the litter fall other miniature forests with the most admirable fungi you can imagine, some of them of the size of the palm of the hand with consistent and uniform texture which you may grill over burning wood or charcoal and sea salt on top, delicious butter-flavored bite.

Beauty is everywhere, tanto para la panza como para todos los sentidos…. Enjoy it …!
