INTRODUCTION

New communication technology using “Visible Light”.

Eliminates most drawbacks of transmission via electromagnetic waves outside the visible spectrum.

Page 3: Vlc technical seminar report

TRANSMITTING DEVICES

It uses • fluorescent lamps (ordinary lamps, not special

communications devices) to transmit signals at 10 Kbit/s, or

• LEDs for up to 500 Mbit/s.

General Characteristics

• Eye safety• Security : What You See Is What You Send.• Health : Harmless for human body• Unregulated : no regulation in optical

frequency• Using in the restricted areas : aircraft,

spaceship, hospital

CONCLUSION

• VLC is a safe technology• It has the potential to deliver high data transfer

rates.• Light radiation neither constitutes nor suffers

from electromagnetic interference (EMI) making VLC a very attractive technology.

• It can be used where security of local communication is important e.g. defense and other applications.
