Suomikirkon Ystäväkirje EMMAUS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 6344 Sperling Ave., Burnaby, B.C. V5E 2V4 Sept-Oct 2017 Suomen itsenäisyyden 100-vuotisjuhla- vuoden teema Suomessa ja ulkomailla on Yhdessä. Suomen yhtenä historiallisena vahvuutena on pidetty kykyä toimia yhdessä, varsinkin tiukan paikan tullen. Erilaiset taustat ja poliittiset painotukset eivät ole erottaneet ihmisiä, vaan on kyetty etsimään yhteisiä ratkaisuja kriisien ratkaisemiseksi. Tällainen ajattelu ja toiminta vaatii omasta edusta luopumista sekä lyhytnäköisen hyödyn tavoittelun sijasta yhteisen hyvän etsimistä ja sen näkemistä. Täällä meillä Brittiläisen Kolumbian suoma- laisväestön kesken on aina ilo huomata kuinka tärkeää monille ovat yhteiset juuret ja osallistuminen eri järjestöjen toimintaan. Olemme osaltamme vaikuttamassa itsenäi- syyden juhlavuoden teeman toteutumiseen erilaisissa tilanteissa ja tapahtumissa. Kristittyjä ympäri maailmaa kutsutaan myös elämään todeksi uskoaan yhdessä. Jeesus itse rukoili uskovien ykseyden ja yhteyden puolesta jäähyväisrukouksessaan: ”Minä rukoilen, että he kaikki olisivat yhtä, niin kuin sinä, Isä, olet minussa ja minä sinussa. Niin tulee heidänkin olla yhtä meidän kanssamme, jotta maailma uskoisi sinun lähettäneen minut.” (Joh 17:21). Kun kristityt ja eri kirkkokunnat tunnustavat yhteistä uskoaan ja toteuttavat käytännössä rakkauden tekoja, he edistävät Jeesuksen rukouksen ja Jumalan valtakunnan toteutumista. Kristittyjen yhteinen todistus kertoo maailmalle viestiä Jumalan armosta ja rakkaudesta, sovituksesta ja anteeksiannosta. Erilaisuus ei ole uhka vaan mahdollisuus todistaa yhteisestä kutsusta ja tehtävästä. Ekumenian ja kristittyjen yhteyden toteutuessa aidosti, omia opillisia painotuksia ja käytäntöjä ei tarvitse hylätä ja kieltää eikä omaa hengellistä kotia tarvitse vaihtaa. Oleellista on keskittyä siihen mikä yhdistää ja on jakamatonta kristikunnassa. Jumalan Sana, Raamattu on uskon perusta ja pyhä kirja, jota on käännetty tuhansille eri kielille ympäri maailmaa. Usko Jeesukseen ja kolmiyhteiseen Jumalaan kutsuu kristittyjä palvelemaan ja rakastamaan kirkkokunnasta riippumatta. Siunausta syksyyn! Differing backgrounds and political pressures have not divided people, instead they have been able to look for common solutions to solve crises. This kind of thought and action demands foregoing one's personal benefit and, instead of seeking shortsighted gain, looking for and seeing benefits that can be shared by all. Here in British Columbia among the Finnish people it is always a joy to notice how important common roots and active participa- tion in various groups is. For our part we are having an influence on the bringing to reality the independence year celebratory theme by participating in various events and happenings. Christians all over the world are also called to bring to life their faith together. Jesus himself prayed on behalf of the unity and connection of the faithful in his farewell prayer: "that all of them may be one Father, just as you are in me, and I am in you. May they also be in us so the world may believe that you have sent “. (John 17:21). When Christians and various church congregations profess a common faith and bring to fruit acts of love they are advancing Jesus’ prayer and the fulfillment of God’s king- dom. Christians joint profession of faith tells the world the message of God’s grace, love, atonement and forgiveness. Having differences is not a threat but an opportunity to profess and answer a common call. When ecumenism take place and Christians join together genuinely our own customs and focus do not need to be abandoned and denied and our own spiritual home need not be changed. It is meaningful to focus on that which brings together and is indivisible in Christianity. God’s word, the Bible, is the basis of faith and the Holy Scriptures, which has been translated into thousands of languages around the world. Belief in Jesus and the triune God call Christians to serve and love regardless of church affiliation.
