We, on behalf of Podra Vivekananda Nagar Juba Samity, are very glad to present the 10th

Annual Report of the organisation to the members of the organisation and to the public atlarge. It is hoped that those who read this report will find it interesting and informative andwill be inspired to extend their helping hand to support the valuable work that thisOrganisation has undertaken. We would like to take this opportunity to thank whole-heartedly the patrons, the members of the general body and executive body for their kind andvaluable support rendered during the year in completing the task with great success. Ourgrateful thanks are also to those who worked very hard to make our all activities movesmoothly and effectively towards its short and long term goals, thereby enriching the lives ofthe beneficiaries.

OVERVIEW :

VYS Envisions…A strong and prosperous India where in particular, the poor are given the opportunity to reachtheir full potential in life and gain status and their rightful place in the Society and to worktowards this dream in conformation with the ideologies of Swami Vivekananda.

VYS’s Mission is…This is the Decade of Development, there is no other choice. Not on paper/not by speeches, tobuild a strong, caring and compassionate nation with truly robust democratic values, we needto emphasise on Human Resource Development starting at local grass-root level bymobilising the youth of this country (who constitute about 50% of the population of India andare the future of India) to be aware of the need to generate a sense of Community of youthacross India, youth who wish to give a helping hand to others.

We wish to bridge the gap between local grass-root level and higher level of the society -

To involve the children and young generation in socio-cultural activities as well as inGames & Sports and overall development of the community for the character evolution inthe nation.

To raise public commitments to the social sectors development to sustained economicgrowth of nation.

Believes in the power of patience, compassion and tough love in transforming humanlives.

Is humble and mindful in our actions and words. We seek and heed advice and counselfrom those who know more than we do.

Our initiative:

We feel that, all out efforts will have to be made by everyone of us at every level in everywalk of life; government alone would not be able to do this. . We also feel that to make ourcountry better, prosperous, we should emphasis on human resource development.Accordingly we care particularly the children and young generation to help them to growproperly. In the above backdrop, we had taken a major developmental project in the financialyear 2003-2004 from our long-cherished dream that we ourselves should do somethingsignificant for the nation. In the meantime, we had already completed CHILDREN PARK,FOOTBALL GROND, VOLLEYBALL GROUND, VIVEKANANDA PARK and veryrecently STUDENTS’ LIBRARY and are very much hopeful to complete the remaining partof the project very soon.

Like others, we are truly concerned with the development of West Bengal and to get startedwith, we have taken this initiative in our own locality, where we all have grown up.

We are sure that the success of our recent efforts will have impact on the neighboring localityand they will soon initiate similar efforts in their own area. However, once such efforts willbe successful, we can plan to give access of library/ children’s park/playground to peoplefrom neighboring locality as well.

MAJOR ACTIVITIES OF THE YEAR 2007-2008 :

14th April, 2008 (Bengalee New Year Celebration)♦ In the morning March Past, Flag Hoisting and Band Procession on 15th August.♦ Afternoon – Final Match of the Howrah District Sports Association affiliated Football

Tournament with the 1st Division Football Club (Sub-Junior Group).

22nd November, 2008 (Inaguration of Vivekananda Public Library & Study Centre)♦ Giving Quilts to the local poor people♦ Inaguration by eminent Film Personality Mr. Soumitra Chattopadhyay♦ Cultural Programme performed by BHOOMI and JOJO

During the financial year, we have provided monetary co-operation to the local needy peopleof our area for their various urgent needs.



DEVELOPMENTAL PROJECTIn a general body meeting held in 2004 inviting all the local people, from our long-cherisheddream, we planned to undertake a major developmental project for the overall upliftment ofthe social life of the people. The following were considered to be important by the newlyconstituted development committee:-

1. Football Ground2. Children Park3. Volleyball Ground4. Students’ Library with study room5. Swimming Pool6. Gymnasium7. Health Clinic with free medicines for poors.8. Community Hall

All the above projects will be executed within our premises called “VIVEKANANDASPORTS & CULTURAL COMPLEX”.

Out of the above, in the year 2005, we had successfully completed the Children Park &Football Ground, in the year 2006 completed the Volleyball Ground and Vivekananda Park.

Very recently i.e. during November, 2008, we had inagurated and opened to the public the 1st

Phase of STUDENTS’ LIBRARY and now in process of 2nd Phase work.

RECENTLY COMPLETED PROJECT :

We are very much pleased to put on record that on 22nd November, 2008 we had inauguratedthe Students’ Library (1st Phase) and opened it for public use. We are now required to installsome library related equipments, books to complete the 1st Phase.

We will now proceed for 2nd Phase work of the Library i.e. Library Building on the 1st floorwith a Study Centre. Under its 2nd Phase, our plan is to keep education-related books ofhigher classes (i.e. Degree Course onward) alongwith other books on various topics ofchildren, Computer related Books, Stories/ Novels/Biography, Magazines,Dictionary/Encyclopedia, Books of General Knowledge and other education related booksand other Informatic Books.



Besides this, we will also install several computers with internet facility so that the localstudents and other general people can use this for getting various important information.

Apart from that we will also construct a separate Study Centre where we will conduct infuture a FREE Coaching Centre & FREE Carear Guidance Centre for the poor students. Wehave already discussed the matter with the local Professors, School Teachers, Private Tutorsand they have agreed to provide volunteer service for this Coaching Centres.

For the above purpose, the budgeted expenditure is as under :-
