Dine at Alimentum during graduation week and win a case of wine

VIVID To our readers,

Welcome to spring. A casual glance from your window might reveal a brightly lit court, a fat duck plucking at a stem of grass, a pair of butterflies mating help-lessly in the dewy air. Go on, leave those books. Step out into a brave new world and make sure you take this copy with you.

Here we cast off the polemi-cal garb of the last issue and don the investigative deerstalker and pipe. Since the terrible events of September 11th 2001, the world has undergone enormous economic, political and social change. Perhaps in the chaos of that fateful day we did not antici-pate the extent to which our lib-erty would be curtailed through the fear of recurrence. With in-creased powers to hold without charge, and hawkishly observed rights to free speech, we very much live in the long shadow of the fallen towers. As we are sure you’ll agree, our seven page in-quiry into contemporary free thinking comes to some interest-ing conclusions.

And there’s more. Treat your-self to the writing of some of Cambridge’s finest comedy tal-ent, indulge in the world’s wacki-est science, and discover a little known group of sexual deviants in Norway.

We extend our sincere thanks to our valued team: the hero that is Danny Mirpuri-Vatvani has excelled himself again with his art, and Andy Spanring and Ka-tie Chesover have helped with the formatting. Thanks also to our sponsors, in particular the champion, Eddie the barber, VIVID’s longest running sponsor, and purveyor of the best haircuts in Cambridge.

The summer’s coming. Work hard. Play harder. Carry this vol-ume everywhere. If nothing else, you can use it as a hat in the in-evitable rain.
