VIU Campus Food Movement OFFICIAL STRATEGY 1 PREAMBLE We wish to acknowledge the broader national food movement by which our work is both con- textualized and bolstered, and recognize the significance of and align our work with both the National Student Food Charter and Universities Fighting World Hunger (UFWH). 2 MISSION To foster a healthy food system that demonstrates and celebrates innovation and leadership in food sustainability within the VIU community. 3 VISION The VIU Campus Food Movement will build aware- ness, understanding, and access to healthy foods at VIU that benefit the local economy, sustain the environment, and uphold global justice. 4 VALUES We value: COMMUNITY WELLBEING: economic, ecological, social, personal We believe community wellbeing includes • An ecologically sustainable food system • Economic and physical access to healthy, local food • Innovative solutions to obstacles and barriers COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT We believe community engagement includes: • Partnerships with the local growing, harvesting, and processing communities • Inclusion of the diversity of food cultures that exist in our community • Collaborative relationships with food distributors FOOD LITERACY We believe food literacy includes: • Opportunities to learn about and apply research or experiential projects to healthy food systems • The understanding of the prioritization of healthy, local, seasonal foods on campus • Inclusion of Indigenous food knowledge and global diversity
