    For your safety

Please follow these safety instructions closely to avoid the risk of injury to persons and damage to property.

    If you smell gas

Dont smoke! Dont use nakedflames or cause sparks (e.g. byswitching lights or electricalappliances on and off)

Open windows and doorsClose the gas shut-off valve Inform your heating engineers/service

contractors from outside the buildingObserve the safety regulations of

your gas supply company (see gasmeter) and those of your heatingengineers (see start-up or instructionreport).

    In emergencies

Immediately switch off the powersupply, e.g. at the separate fuse orpower supply disconnect switch(unless there is a smell of gas).

Close the shut-off valves in the oilpipes or close the gas shut-off valve, whichever applicable.

Use suitable extinguishers in theevent of fire.

    Work on the equipment

Installation, initial start-up,maintenance and repairs must becarried out by a competent person(heating engineer/service contractor).

Before work is undertaken on theequipment/heating system, switchoff the power supply voltage (e.g. atthe separate fuse or power supplyelectrical isolator switch) and takesteps to prevent it from beingswitched on again.

Gas-fired systems: Also close thegas shut-off valve and make secureto prevent unauthorized use.

    Installation of additional components

The installation of additionalcomponents which have not beentested together with the boiler canadversely affect the function andperformance of the boiler. Our warranty does not cover and weaccept no liability for damageattributable to the installation of suchcomponents.

    Boiler room conditions

Do not use a room in which theair is polluted by halogenatedhydrocarbons (e.g. as containedin aerosols, paints, solvents andcleaning agents)

Do not use a room subject to highlevels of dust

Do not use a room subject topermanently high humidity

The room should be frost-protectedMax. ambient temperature

    35 C / 95 F.Provide good ventilation and do

not close or obstruct vents(if installed).

    This symbol indicates a

    reference to other

    instructions which must

    be observed.

    This header denotes

    special instructions which

apply to the use of the

    Vitotronic 100 in a

    multi-boiler system.

    Notes on applicability

The Vitotronic 100, GC1, can be used insingle-boiler systems,multi-boiler systems in conjunction with Vitocontrol-S, VD2/CT3/CM2

ormulti-boiler systems with an external master control.

Multi-boiler system with external master control

Please observe the instructions marked by this header in thisdocument as well the instructions for the external master control.

Multi-boiler system in conjunction with Vitocontrol-S, VD2/CT3/CM2For this system type you need only consult the operatinginstructions for the Vitocontrol-S, VD2/CT3/CM2. These contain all theoperating steps for the Vitotronic 100, GC1, too.

  • Switching on and off

    7

    Starting up the heating system

The initial start-up and matching of the control unit to local conditions and

the structural characteristics of the building must be carried out by your

    heating contractor.

In a multi-boiler system, only the Vitotronic 100 and the

corresponding boiler are started up when the following steps are

    carried out.

    1. Check the pressure of the heatingsystem on the manometer. If the needle is below the redmarker, the system pressure is toolow in which case add more wateror contact your heating contractor.

2.Open the shut-off valves in the oilpipes (at the boiler) or open the gasshut-off valve, whichever applicable.

    3. Switch on the power supply voltage,e.g. at the separate fuse or a powersupply disconnect switch.

    4. Switch on the heating system on/offswitch 8; the operating status isindicated by the green lamp and, after a short time, the boilertemperature appears in the displaywindow.

The boiler is now ready for operation.

  • Switching on and off

    8

    Shutting down the heating system

In a multi-boiler system, only the corresponding boiler can be

switched off with the Vitotronic 100. If the complete boiler system

is to be switched off, it is necessary to switch off the master

control and the power supply power supply to the heating system

    as well.

If you do not want to use the boiler temporarily, select standby operation

    (see page 6).

If you do not want to use the boiler for a long period (several months), you

    should shut it down.

We advise you to contact your heating contractor before shutting down the

boiler for long periods. Your heating contractor will take any necessary action,

e.g. for freeze-up protection of the system or to safeguard the heat exchange

    surfaces.

    1. Switch off the heating system on/offswitch 8.The green lamp goes out. The powersupply to the boiler is now switchedoff. There is no freeze-up protection of

    the boiler and DHW tank.

    Please note:

The settings of the control unit

    remain intact.

2.Close the shut-off valves in the oilpipes (at the boiler) or close the gasshut-off valve, whichever applicable.

    Diagnosis and correction

If a fault occurs on the heating system, it will be indicated in the display

window and by the flashing red fault lamp (see page 5).

Using the scan facility, you can read off the fault code yourself and inform

    your heating contractor accordingly.

In a multi-boiler system, the Vitotronic 100 only displays those

faults which are applicable to it. Therefore you should always

check all the other control units in your heating system for faults too.

  • Servicing instructions

    17

Servicing/cleaning instructions and note on disposal of unwanted equipment

    Servicing

Servicing of heating systems is requiredunder current heating system regula-tions and standards (DIN 4755, DIN4756 and DIN 1988-8).

Regular servicing of the heating systemwill ensure troublefree, energy-savingand environmentally friendly heating. We strongly advise you to arrange aservice contract with your heating con-tractor.

    Operational checks

The following operational checksshould be carried out every month:Regularly check the pressure of the

    system.Check correct operation of safety

    valve.Check correct operation of control

equipment.Check all seals and re-seal if

necessary.Check the ventilation facilities of the

boiler room (see safety note on page2).

Check function of neutralizing unit.Check level of neutralizing agent.

    Boiler

All boilers have to be cleaned at certainintervals as the flue gas temperatureand therefore the energy loss rise asthe level of contamination increases.

We recommend the use of a flue gassensor. The efficiency of the system will beimpaired if the flue gas temperatureis excessively high due to contamination of the boiler or incorrectadjustment of the burner. In this caseit may be necessary to clean theboiler or readjust the burner.

A built-in hours run meter measuresthe operating times of the burner. The longer the operating times, thelower the standby losses.

    Cleaning

The equipment can be cleaned withdomestic cleaning agents availableon the market (do not use abrasivecleaning agents).

    Note on disposal of unwanted

    equipment

The unit contains an inbuilt,non-toxic battery. To safeguard the environment, please dispose of spent batteriesproperly via the appropriatecollection points. The battery should be removed bya competent person.
