OUR NATIONS SECRET EPIDEMIC INFLAMMATIONIt is staggering and alarming to see the growth and escalationo inlammation-related diseases in America. This is especiallydisturbing considering that we lead the world in medical science

and spend more on healthcare than any other nation in the world. Now, my intention is not to use scare tactics in this article but tomake you aware o dangers to your health so you can make the best

choices or good health. One reason disease continues to escalate is that our healthcare methodsocus on the symptoms not the causes o disease. It is now estimated that 50% o our nationspopulation is dealing with an inlammation-related disease.

What is inlammation and how does it evolve into disease? Inlammation is a process by whichthe bodys immune system protects us rom inection and oreign substances such as bacteriaand viruses. However, sometimes the immune system overreacts. This can lead to chronic

inlammation. Chronic inlammation is an immune response o prolonged duration thateventually leads to tissue damage. When chronic inlammation is in an organ or in a primarybody system, it can lead to disease and a signiicant deterioration o health.

When your body is sending you a signal that inlammation is present, it wants you to makechanges and deal with the in lamed area. Normally pain is associated with inlammation butmany types o internal inlammation are not identiied by pain but by various symptoms.

Inlammation o the heart: shortness o breath, leg swelling

Stomach inlammation: constipation, irritation, gas, swelling

Inlammation o the large intestines: cramps, diarrhea

Inlammation o the kidneys: high blood pressure

Over time, these symptoms can progress to serious diseases. Obesity and diabetes are twoinlammation-related diseases that dont necessarily start with pain. In most cases they arerecognized through symptoms; when liestyle choices are made to reduce the inlammation, the risks o the disease can be reduced. When your body is giving you a symptomaticresponse, you can make decisions to help stop the progression o inlammation.

Let me give you a personal example. Several years ago I was on one o my wilderness adventuresin northern British Columbia. I love that country with its beauty and remoteness. Whilehiking above the timberline and the vast water tributaries in the valley below, I lost my waterbottle with its good pure water to quench my thirst. So rather than retreating miles back to our

camp, I chose to drink water that unbeknownst to me was inected with bacteria. Within hoursinlammation was at work!

As I returned home my symptoms did not change even though I had good water and healthyood. As I gradually lost weight, my energy and strength deteriorated almost daily. My body wasentering a state o chronic inlammation, and my stomach tissue was being damaged. Fortunately, through the eorts o Dr. Conard and the University o British Columbia, the bacteria wasidentiied and a therapy was administered.

Now, think o the many things that could introduce bacteria or oreign substance into your

body without you being aware o it. Such things can be ound in the air you breathe and theoods you eat. Please give consideration to what I am saying as it may be critical to your health. The latest statistics rom Heart Screen show that 80% o illnesses are preventable and 90% ohealthcare costs deal with preventable illnesses.

You may have heard healthexperts explaining the poten-tial cardiovascular benefts

o Omega-3 essential atty acids. Yes,theyre certainly great or your heart. Now, theres increasing evidence thatthese atty acids oer many otherimmediate benefts.

Oma3 fatt acis a cssathohot lifWhat are Omega-3 atty acids and why are theyconsidered good ats? Its because good atsmake your brain and heart healthy. They helpreduce inammation, improve circulation andthe immune system, and help reduce pain.

Essential atty acids make the immunesystem work smarter, not harder. They canhelp right now by easing pain and inamma-tion, nourishing the brain and hormones andhelping ease the inammation that can triggerasthma and arthritis.

Essential atty acids can help your body protectagainst or help manage:

    Coronary heart disease and stroke

    Crohns disease

    Mild hypertension

    Autoimmune disorders includinglupus and nephropathy

    Rheumatoid arthritis.

Caiovascla halthOmega-3 atty acids have been shown to helpyour body protect against heart disease and

death rom coronary disease, especially cardiacarrest. This has been verifed in hundreds oexperiments and clinical studies.

The immense health-giving power o essentialatty acids was frst observed when scientistsinvestigated the incredible good health o Green-

land Eskimos. Their diets were very high in atrom seals, whales and fsh yet they had a verylow rate o coronary heart disease. Further studiesconfrmed that the majority o the at thatEskimos consumed came rom fsh that providelarge amounts o essential atty acids.

Bai halthMany health experts believe that Omega-3atty acids may be crucial or brain unction

and that a defciency could lead to or increasemental illness in certain people.

The blues several studies suggest thatOmega-3 atty acids may be benefcial inthe treatment o the blues.

Bipolar disorder a Harvard studypublished in theArchives of GeneralPsychiatry ound that Omega-3 atty

acids were eective in the treatmento bipolar disorder.

Schizophrenia according to a studypublished in the journal Lipids, essentialatty acids helped reduce the severity osymptoms in a group o 34 patients withschizophrenia.

    Attention defcit hyperactivity disorder

(ADHD) preliminary evidence suggeststhat a defciency o Omega-3 atty acidsmay be responsible or recent high rates oADHD diagnosis among children.

An Australian study tested a combina-tion o Omega-3 fsh oil and eveningprimrose oil on 132 children with ADHD.At the studys conclusion, almost hal othe parents reported that their childrenssymptoms had improved.

While additional research is needed to confrmthe benefts o Omega-3 atty acids and mentalhealth, some psychiatrists have already recom-mended that patients with mood disorders eatoods high in Omega-3 atty acids.

Ski halthEssential atty acids play an important role inthe health o our skin and can help you avoidskin rashes and inections.

Skin disorders such as psoriasis have beenimproved by supplementation with Omega-3atty acids. Psoriasis suerers typically have moreinammation in their skin. Omega-3 atty acidshelp inhibit production o these inammatorycompounds. Clinical trials have shown thatOmega-3 atty acids can successully assist in thetreatment o eczema. Omega-3 atty acids havealso been known to help reduce skin blemishes.

Theres another great beneft o Omega-3s theyhelp lock moisture into skin cells, encouragingthe production o strong collagen and elasticfbers, which aid in youthul-looking skin.

Joit halthNumerous reports show that Omega-3 atty acidshelp reduce inammation and joint pain. As youage, the constant movement o joints createswear and tear. Continual inammation can alsocause joint damage. Essential atty acids provide

lubrication or the joints as they move againsteach other. This reduces the wear that can occurat these joints and helps reduce inammation.

This means that there are things we can do to help prevent the deterioration o ourhealth. It is time or us to think outside the box as to what is causing this escalation oinlammatory diseases.

Lets briely look at how the oods we eat could trigger inlammation. I we ate meat

that was tainted with E. coli or chicken tainted with salmonella we would ingest a oreignsubstance that would create an in lammatory condition. What i you ate arm-raisedsalmon thinking it was good or you and the pellets that ed that salmon were ullo pollutants? What i you were eating turkey, chicken or bee that was ull o hormones? What i the vegetables you ate were contaminated with pesticides?

Obviously we cannot be hermits, but we can be more aware o the things in the worldaround us that are contributing to in lammatory diseases. You may be thinking, Michaelthat is an interesting point, but what can I do about it? There are several things you cando that will make a signiicant dierence:

    1. Understand that at cells are like a storage warehouse in our bodies or toxic oreignsubstances. By reducing your body at, you actually cut down on the storage capacityo these oreign substances.

    2. Exercise can improve circulation and the lymphatic cleansing o the unwantedoreign substances.

    3. By supplementing with OmegaPrime, which is an inlammation ighter, you canhelp reduce inlammation.

    4. By eating organic vegetables and ree-range meats, you can reduce your exposure.

Although we are just scratching the surace o this subject, hopeully you will be inspiredto at least consider the dangers and understand that there are things you can do to loweryour risk o chronic inlammation.

    Your attention span is shorter

    Your concentration is scattered

Its more diicult or you to startor sustain a conversation

Your handwriting is becoming sloppyor illegible

You are starting to wonder whetheryou are getting dementia.

I one or more o these is happening to you,it could be the result o brain erosion. Brainerosion means that the brain actually erodesor shrinks. Can the brain really shrink? Yes itcan! The human brain may lose rom 10 to 25percent o its total volume due to the e ectso stress.

Thats scary enough, but now brain erosion

is happening to people at a much younger agethan in the past. Statistics rom the 1970sand 1980s ound brain erosion only in peopleover 50. However, a major study conducted byWashington University (St. Louis, Missouri)detected brain volume loss as early as age 30.Researchers also discovered that this brainvolume loss oten leads to dementia.

People under the age o 30 may also losecognitive unction as a result o asthma,ADHD, allergies, digestive issues or diabetes. These medical issues can result in a muchlower B vitamin absorption rate. That meansthe brain is literally starving or the right

kind o nutrition. B vitamins, especially B-12,are so important because they help increasethe eectiveness o other essential nutrientslike Omega-3 atty acids.

Why are we seeing this dramatic change overa ew decades? Stress and its damaging eectson our bodies is a major reason. Stress maycome rom the pollution in our environment, lack o nutrients in our oods, the accumulationo small and large injuries that we carry withus, the relentless expectations that we placeon ourselves and the pressure o other peoplesexpectations o us.

Stress places such a demand on us that itovercomes our bodys ability to cope. Brainerosion is one result. How can you tell i yourbrain is shrinking?

You may initially have a nagging eeling thatyour mental perormance is starting to slide that you are no longer at your peak. When thishappens, its easy to eel rightened, depressedor rustrated, thinking that your mental abilitiesare slipping away. But dont despair or lose hope, because there is a lot you can do to slow andeven repair brain erosion.

So, how eager are you to do whatever it takes to improve brain itness nowand help protect against much worse problems like dementia rom developing?

Iflammatio: imm sstmso wil!Inlammation is your immune systems responseto damage. This damage can arise rom trauma,

stress, genetic abnormalities, metabolic disordersand a host o other sources including bacterial, viral or parasitic inection. Certain liestylechoices can also contribute to in lammation:poor diet, stress, overweight, a sedentary liestyleand smoking. Inlammation can cause redness, swelling, heat, pain and loss o unction.

Perhaps while cutting vegetables the knieslips and cuts your hand. The inlammatoryresponse immediately moves into action.

White blood cells rush to the scene o thedamage and begin to destroy the damaged cells, while sending out chemical signals that call ormore help. Thats when unstable moleculescalled ree radicals are released. Free radicals, now considered key players in many diseases, start to attack the damaged area with indiscrim-inate zeal, destroying some healthy cells in theprocess. This new damage leads to yet anotherround o inlammation.

And thats where the trouble begins! Thisdamage to healthy tissue can lead to a viciouscycle o chronic inlammation. Chronic inlam-mation has been linked with heart disease, arthritis, Alzheimers disease, strokes, certaintypes o cancer and more.

Lifstl choicsThe irst step you can take to help reduceinlammation is to eliminate some o thebehaviors that can contribute to it:

    1. I you smoke, quit. This is the numberone preventable cause o death!

    2. Practice stress management techniquessuch as deep breathing to help manageyour stress load.

    3. Simply being overweight can increaseinlammation. Start a sensible diet andexercise plan it will help with in lamma-tion and your overall sense o health andwell-being.

    4. Exercise at least 30 minutes per day, threeto ive days per week.

    5. Cut out unhealthy ood choices some owhich can actually contribute to inlam-mation. Some examples are:

    a. Trans ats read all ood labels so youcan avoid trans ats and any otherhydrogenated oils

    b. Reined carbohydrates avoidprocessed starchy oods such as white

    c. Processed foods i possible, removeall these health-stealing oods romyour diet.

Bo loss a ostooosis iskAccording to the National Institute o Arthritisand Musculoskeletal and Skin Disease, meno-pausal women begin to lose bone at an esti-mated rate o three to fve percent per year. Thisis because estrogen levels drop and estrogenprotects bone. The good news is that osteoporo-sis is highly preventable. You simply must makehealthy liestyle choices.

Get plenty o Vitamin D and calcium. The National Osteoporosis Foundationrecommends that women over 50 get1,200 mg o calcium and 8001,200 IUo Vitamin D daily.

Exercise or at least 30 minutes onmost days. Weight-bearing exercise isespecially important and has beenshown in studies to strengthen bone.

Plus, exercise has been shown to helpreduce the symptoms o menopause aswell as improve mental well-being.

I you smoke, stop. Nicotine and otherchemicals are toxic to your bone cells.

    Avoid excessive alcohol.

Get a bone density test. Your risk actorswill determine at what age you shouldget tested. Talk with your healthcareprovider about your individual needs.

I you have been diagnosed with bone loss, visittrivita.com to learn more about TriVita BoneBuilder, proven to rebuild bone!

Wiht ai: Its ot ivitabl! It is true that many women gain weight duringthe menopause years. However, you dont haveto accept this as inevitable! As you age, yourmetabolic rate tends to slow down. Most peoplecontinue with their same eating patterns, whichresults in weight gain.

This is where you will have to take special care.

You may need to reduce your caloric intake andexercise more. Plus, make sure what you are eat-ing constitutes a well-balanced diet. Be sure toinclude plenty o fber, whole grains, ruits andvegetables. Keep saturated ats to a minimum.

Exercise 30 minutes per day, most days othe week. Also, try to ft exercise into yourdaily activities:

Park ar away rom entrances to banks, grocery stores, etc.

Take the stairs instead o the elevatorwhenever possible

Turn o the television and take a walkaround the block

I you work at a desk all day, stand up atleast once an hour; do some stretchingand take a short walk.

Moas a salitThere is a common misconception that meno-pause negatively aects your sex lie every-

thing rom reducing your interest in it, to evenstealing your ability to perorm. Although thereare physical changes at menopause that canchange your sex lie, it certainly doesnt have tospell the end o it!

Menopause and the accompanying drop inestrogen can result in vaginal dryness and painduring intercourse. However, a study out o

the New England Research Institute and theUniversity o Massachusetts Medical School,Worcester, ound that diminished hormonesdo not necessarily aect a womans interest insex. Rather, lack o interest has more to do withgeneral health and social actors.

Medications, stress and other health problemscan all aect libido. Discuss any ears andworries with your partner. Age can also a ectmens sexual drive and perormance. Together, you can discover new sexual experiences thatwill satisy you both.

A ifft ki of moasDont let menopause or the ear o it controlyour lie. Take control by arming yoursel withthe knowledge you need to help minimize symp-toms and keep yoursel healthy and happy. Un-like menopause experienced by women decadesago, this can be a time you look orward to: you

are an empowered woman, and you are readyto roar!

    BAD FAT

Saturated fats Saturated at is bad at. These ats are solid atroom temperature and do not turn rancid easily when exposed to

air. Saturated at is guilty o raising blood cholesterol levels, whichput you at greater risk or stroke and heart disease.

    Food sources: Animal products.

UGLY FATTrans-fats Trans-at is the biggest threat to your health, andas many as 40% o oods in a grocery store include trans-at. Trans-at is ound in virtually every cookie, cracker and pastry available,

as well as being used heavily in restaurant and ast ood cooking. You are most likely to ind it on an ingredient label as a partiallyhydrogenated vegetable at (e.g. soybean oil, etc.). To help oodsstay resh on grocery shelves, or to create a solid at product suchas margarine, ood manuacturers hydrogenate add hydrogen to polyunsaturated oils. Fortunately, since January 2006, the Food andDrug Administration has required that ood labels show the trans-atcontent, making it easier or us to avoid it.

Trans-atty acids raise bad cholesterol levels and lower goodcholesterol levels, which raises the risk o heart disease.

Food sources: Cookies, crackers, rench ries, donuts and commer-cially ried oods.

TRIMMING THE FATT avid te uealty fats, yu suld:

Severely restrict intake o packaged baked goods like cookies

    and pastries

Eliminate commercially ried oods (like rench ries) asmuch as possible

Reduce the amount o animal products you eat

Use 1% or skim milk instead o whole milk.

T get re ealty fats it yur diet:

Eat more ish, such as salmon and tuna Use olive oil or cooking Try a handul o nuts in place o a sweet snack.

Remember, too much at o any kind can be unhealthy. Realize, too, that just because a product is labeled low at, does not meanit is low in trans-at. It is always better to go with unprocessed ood,and shop or resh produce instead.

GOOD FATUnsaturated fats good ats that lower bad cholesterol or raisegood cholesterol are ound in many orms. Unsaturated ats are thegood ats. They are either monounsaturated or polyunsaturated. Whileunsaturated ats can lower your blood cholesterol level and oer otherhealth beneits, you should moderate your at intake because all ats

contain more than double the calories o proteins or carbohydrates.

Monounsaturated fats oils made rom this at are liquid atroom temperature, but begin to get solid when rerigerated. Mono-unsaturated at lowers blood cholesterol when used in place osaturated ats.

Food sources: avocados, olives and peanuts; and canola, almond, hazelnut, peanut and olive oils.

Omega-9 is a monounsaturated atty acid that converts to oleicacid. High consumption is linked to reduced incidence o breast

    cancer and heart disease.

Food sources: lax, olive, evening primrose and borage oil.

Polyunsaturated fats oils made rom this at are liquid atboth room temperature and rerigerator temperatures. These ats turnrancid when combined with oxygen. Polyunsaturated at also lowersblood cholesterol when used in place o saturated ats.

Two important polyunsaturated ats are Omega-3 and Omega-6 attyacids, which come mostly rom ish sources. Both are essential atty

acids (EFAs), which means the body does not naturally producethem; they must be derived rom oods.

Omega-3 makes the blood less likely to orm clots that causeheart attacks, protect against irregular heartbeats that can causesudden death, and lower blood pressure.

Food sources: salmon, lake trout, herring, sardines, mackerel, albacore tuna, nuts, green leay vegetables; and salower, lax, corn, canola and sunlower oils.

Omega-6 is also known as Linoleic acid, which is turned into

gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) by the body. It reduces choles-terol, improves the eects o insulin and improves eectivenesso the immune system.

Food sources: evening primrose, borage and black currant oils.

What is BMI?Body Mass Index (BMI) most people have heard about it, but veryew people know what it really means. BMI is a number calculated roma persons weight and height. It is considered by many healthcare proes-

sionals to be a reliable indicator o body at or people. And, its also aninexpensive and easy-to-perorm screening tool that may help indicatepossible weight-related health problems.

How BMI is sBMI is a measurement tool, not a diagnostic one. Just because you have ahigh BMI doesnt necessarily mean you should be alarmed. To determinei excess weight is a health risk, a healthcare proessional may use otherassessments, including:

    Skinold thickness

    Diet

    Level o physical activity

Family history and other appropriate health screenings.

Calclati BMI is asWith BMI, you dont need to be a math genius to quickly assess weightand obesity. You only need to calculate height and weight. This makesit an inexpensive and easy tool or clinicians and the general public.Use the ollowing chart to fnd your BMI:

BMI liabilit as a iicato of bo fatThe relationship between the BMI number and body at is airlystrong; however the correlation varies by sex, race and age. Look orthese variations:

At the same BMI, women tend to have more body at then men

At the same BMI, older people on average have more body at thanyounger adults

Highly trained athletes have a high BMI because o increasedmuscularity, instead o increased body at.

Hih BMI = hih isas iskStatistics clearly indicate that higher BMI reading oten means obesity.

Obesity also increases your risk o getting a disease. So, by lowering yourBMI readings you will improve your chances or good health.

I your BMI is between 25 and 30, you should seek ways to lower BMI usingdiet and exercise.

A BMI reading over 30 indicates an unhealthy condition. You may beat risk or serious medical problems. A change in your diet and exerciseprogram is strongly encouraged.

Ulondas journey rom regular Membershipto Afliate Membership is a tale worthrepeating. It is a tale o product success,

easy reerrals and uture hopes. And its a taleothers might fnd valuable to ollow.

Four years ago, Ulonda became a Member whenshe started taking three dierent TriVita prod-ucts TriVita Sublingual B-12, Vitamin C andVitaDaily AM/PM. She also got her husband onthis same regimen to better his health. This wasquite a eat, she says, because her husbanddoesnt like to take pills o any kind. Today,Ulonda and her husband still take three prod-ucts each, except that they switched rom

VitaDaily AM/PM to Daily Women/Daily Men.

Over the years, Ulonda hadnt really given

much thought to stepping up rom regularmembership to Afliate Membership. But allthat started changing as her Leanology resultsmaterialized. Ulonda began taking it in June2007, and it only took her three months toachieve her desired weight o 145 pounds aloss o 27 pounds. This was a welcomingsurprise because Ulonda had tried many

dierent weight loss programs in the past, but,as she says, They just would stop working atera point and I couldnt lose any more weight. With Leanology, however, I could just keeplosing weight Im really sold on it.

Ulondas success with Leanology led her tobecoming an ofcial Afliate Member. She says,What happened was, other women would see Ilost weight, and then come up to me to ask aboutit. Ulonda adds, I wasnt an Afliate Memberater reerring Leanology to the frst woman whoasked me about my weight loss. But then I sawan advertisement in one o the publications, and decided to check it out. I went to TriVitas

website, read about the programs, and chosethe Afliate Membership because it was ree. That was in January 2008.

It was good that she did sign up becauseUlonda has now reerred a total o six womento TriVita with Leanology. Five are relatives:three sisters, a sister-in-law, and a niece. Thesixth is a woman rom church. Whats so goodabout all this is that Leanology is working orthese women, too. Ulonda says, Two o my

sisters lost 20 pounds each, and my other sister, while losing only 7 pounds so ar, is still pleasedbecause shes losing inches. Plus, my laterLeanology reerrals, to my sister-in-law andniece, have lost 15 pounds each.

One o the great things about Leanology is theway it helped Ulonda lose weight and reshapeher body.

Leanology has helped me lose inches every-where Ive lost 25 inches total. But it hasespecially helped me lose those stubborn inchesaround the abdomen, which up until now, wasimpossible to do. My improved fgure is one othe things other women are noticing. In act, several women rom church noticed the changesand approached Ulonda. She ended up reerringthree more women to TriVita or Leanology. Atthis time they havent bought yet, but Ulondahas high hopes.

Ulonda uses the 10% Discount Reerral Cardswhen making the reerrals. She says, When Ifrst signed up, I downloaded the online ReerralCards, then printed them up and passed a ewout. Later, along with my cash rewards checks, Ialso got booklets o these cards and now I usethem, too. I just write in my ID number andhand them out. As or the $25 Git Cards shegets or reerring others to TriVita, Ulonda uses

them to help pay or her avorite products sheorders each month.

Right now, Ulonda is a stay-at-home mom. Shesraising several children, with her youngest stillnot in school. Being at home all day long limitsmy chances or talking to people, she says, except or when I go to church. But once myyoungest starts school next year, Ill be able to goout more in public and make more reerrals.

Asked why she likes doing these reerrals,Ulonda says, I you like the product, you canreer it to people who need it, and then you getpaid or it. Then she adds with a chuckle, Itsreally not a lot o work.

Believing in the product is crucial andUlonda really believes in Leanology. Abouther own progress, she says, Ater reachingmy desired weight in October, 2007, I went

into the plan o just maintaining it. Then inMarch, 2008, I started up again and now Ivelost another ive pounds.

Interestingly enough, she also reports, Myniece had a problem with cholesterol, and sincestarting on Leanology, her level has dropped100 points. Asked i this remarkable drop wasdue to Leanology or to some other medication,Ulonda replied, without missing a beat, Myniece says it just has to be Leanology because

she doesnt like taking medications, and isnttaking anything or cholesterol.

Ulonda also likes TriVita Sublingual B-12 or herhusband. She says, My husband says he cantunction without it. I he stops taking it, hereally eels it.

Much o Ulondas initial reerral success came

rom a reactive mode women noticed andapproached her about her great weight loss andbody-reshaping results. But now Ulonda hasstarted acting proactively, too. There was thiswoman at church who had several medicalproblems, including being overweight anddiabetic, she says, so I reerred Leanology to

her. She needs the help, and it elt good reerringthis product I believe in so strongly to someonewho could beneft rom it.

Reerring is working out so well or Ulonda thatshe sees a uture where she might even sign up tobecome a Business Afliate. Her eeling is, Iyou really believe in your product, reerring it toothers is easy.

BRomELAIn And CATS CLAW mAY hELp InfLAmmATIon

New York, New YorkA clinical study has indicated that the enzyme bromelain has a much higher success rate than many prescriptiondrugs in treating inammation and pain. Most o the people in this study who took bromelain reported less painand were discharged rom the hospital sooner than those who took prescription drugs. These same patients alsoexperienced ewer side eects. The results o several other studies showed that bromelain has been eective inreducing inammation rom arthritis or sports injuries.

Cats claw, an herb that grows in South America, not only enhances the unctioning o the immune system, butalso has been ound to reduce inammation. Several studies have indicated that cats claw may help people witheither rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis.

TriVitas OptimaFlex has both bromelain and cats claw. See page 19.

Fort Lauderdale, FloridaClinical trials have examined the eectiveness o Omega-3 supplementation in a variety o inammatory andautoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, Crohns disease, lupus and migraine headaches. In somecases, patients who supplement with Omega-3 have been able to reduce reliance on anti-inammatory drugs orrelie rom painul symptoms.

Experts have noted that Omega-3s are excellent at lowering inammation. These ats actually crowd out excessarachidonic acid an immune system compound that promotes pain and inammation. Studies have shown that

when Omega-3 and Omega-6 atty acids are balanced, much less arachidonic acid is produced. Fewer o thesecompounds in circulation usually results in less inammation. See page 4 or more on Omega-3 atty acids.

    ExERCISE mAY EASE mEnopAUSE SYmpTomS

New York, New YorkA new study suggests that regular brisk walks may help improve the mental well-being o menopausal women.

Researchers discovered that middle-aged women who exercised regularly had lower stress levels, anxiety anddepression during menopause than those who didnt exercise regularly. These fndings, published in theMedicine and Science in Sports and Medicine Journal, add to the body o evidence that physical activity beneftsboth mental and physical health.

The study included 380 Philadelphia women who were 42 years old and premenopausal at the beginning o thestudy. Ater eight years, 20% were menopausal and another 18% were in the late transitional phase. The research-ers discovered that menopausal women who had exercised at moderate to high levels had lower stress levels thaninactive women. Postmenopausal women who exercised regularly had lower stress levels and suered less romanxiety and depression symptoms.

Simple waySthat can add years to

your lifeAdd One yeArGet a pet or i you have one, play with itSo many positive things happen when youinteract with your pet. Your blood pressure andstress levels drop while your mood-boostinghormone oxytocin rises.

A less stressed out heart is a healthy one. And

dog owners have an added advantage: they walkmore oten and cover more distance. One studyound that heart attack victims who own dogs areeight times more likely to survive an attack thanpeople without pet dogs.

Add TWO yeArSExerciseAccording to the Framingham Heart Study, walking just 30 minutes a day can lengthen yourlie. Regular exercise helps you burn calories and

maintain a healthy weight. It also helps protectagainst everything rom type 2 diabetes and heartdisease to high blood pressure and stroke.

Weight training two to three times a weekcan also be an important part o your exerciseregimen. Your muscles and bones weaken withage; weight liting can help reverse this and keepyou strong well into your 80s and 90s.

Add THree yeArSLose weightYour body mass index (BMI) measures bodyat based on height and weight. It may alsoaect how long you live. Being overweight(a BMI o 25 to 29.9) can take three years o yourlie. Being obese (a BMI o 30 or higher) may costyou seven years. Those extra poundscould raise your risk o heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and other lie-shortening

diseases. A BMI range o 18.5 to 24.9 is con-sidered healthiest. See our chart on page 12to calculate your healthy weight.

Add SIx yeArSFloss regularlyThe very same bacteria that cause periodontaldiseases such as gingivitis also trigger an immuneresponse that can cause arteries to swell, whichconstricts blood ow and increases plaque depos-its. It also may increase your risk o cardiovasculardisease. Routine daily ossing combined withregular brushing ater meals, will help protectagainst these problems.

Add SeVen yeArSPositive outlookAccording to Yale University researchers, anoptimistic attitude increases lie span by at least

7.5 years. Thats because a positive outlook boostsyour bodys immune system, which allows it tobetter handle the destructive eects o stress. So,it makes sense to keep looking on the brighterside o lie.

Add eIgHT yeArSStop smokingResearch shows that smokers who quit by age 35live about six to eight years longer than people

who continue smoking. Kicking the smokinghabit lowers your risk o developing many deadlyconditions, including lung cancer, heart disease, stroke, chronic bronchitis and emphysema.

Remember, while you may have limited controlover your genetics, you have lots o control overdierent liestyle choices that can add years toyour lie and lie to your years.

There are 108 boys born in the USA or every 100girls. Yet, by age 5 the numbers are about even orboys and girls. By age 65 the numbers are signif-cantly dierent: 235 women or every 100 men. There are several causes o this disparity. The frstis genetic.

That sk y chomosom!Genetically, men have one X chromosome andone Y chromosome. Women, meanwhile, havejust two X chromosomes. These chromosomes

are literally shaped like Xs and Ys. I you look atthe X and Y shapes, you can see the Y is missing aleg when compared to the X. As a result, womenhave eight regions o genetic material to rely on,but men have only seven. The gene pool that helpsa body resist disease is smaller or men than orwomen. And the smaller size also means that menhave a lower number o disease-protecting genesin total.

So, men need to take better care o themselves, and not neglect the gits o lie and health.

Bond gntics oth isks fo mnRisky lifestyleWhen we look at health risks, men tend to engagein more risky, dangerous behaviors and generallylive more hazardous lives than women. Men tendto smoke more, drink more and dont wear theirseatbelts as oten.

Poor dietMen also eat ewer vegetables. Yet, men need thenutrients and antioxidants rom ruits and vegeta-bles even more than women. Why? Because mentend to be bigger. The average man needs nineservings o vegetables and ruit every day to pro-vide the antioxidants necessary to reduce disease.I you are bigger than average, you need even moreruits and vegetables.

Lung cancerThe most prevalent orm o lethal cancer in menand women is lung cancer, which is primarilycaused by smoking. To help prevent this type ocancer, stop smoking.

Colon and prostate cancerThese two cancers are the second and thirdleading causes o death by cancer in men. Theykill roughly 40,000 men in the U.S. every year.Leading physicians and health policy experts tellus that these deaths are mostly preventable. Thatsbecause the incidence o colon cancer is reducedin those who routinely eat a high fber diet or takea fber supplement daily. This is another reason toeat plenty o ruits and vegetables. Besides all theantioxidants, they are also very high in fber.

Obstructive sleep apneaAnother killer o men is sleep apnea. Obstructivesleep apnea (OSA) kills nearly as many men asdoes colon cancer and prostate cancer just under40,000 per year.

Obstructive sleep apnea oten occurs in conjunc-tion with obesity. The more obese a person is, themore likely they are to have OSA. You can tell

i a person is at risk or OSA because they snoreloudly. Many heart attacks and strokes that occurduring sleep are caused by OSA. It is also the mostcommon trigger in congestive heart ailure.

Over 60 years o accumulated data clearly indicatesthat proper liestyle choices are the best remedyagainst early death and disability in men.

Genetics are a two-way street. Men defnitelyhave a genetic disadvantage compared to women.

But, this doesnt have to mean an early deathsentence. Knowledge is very empowering. Bymaking proper liestyle choices and ollowingTriVitas 10 Essentials or Health and Wellness, men can live longer, healthier lives, too.

Everyone has experienced loneliness at one time or another; whether itwas loss o a loved one through death or divorce or simply a eeling o

Being alone on the other hand is a state o being o being solitaryor independent on your own. Its important to realize that just becauseyou are alone, it doesnt mean you must be lonely or lonesome.

Just as a wound takes time to heal, the emotional pain elt by someonewho has experienced a loss may be elt or a long time. While it is truethat you may always miss the person or the thing that was lost, it doesntmean that you must suer permanent loneliness. Many times, older menwho are retired are less likely to have close riends and are thrown into

despair ater losing their spouse. It may be harder or them to connectwith the outside world when their whole lie has been wrapped aroundthat person. The same could go or many older women who ind them-selves alone and eeling lonely because they have spent much o theiradult lives caring or others. I you are in one o these positions, beingpatient with your emotional healing and remaining hopeul enables youto learn to move ahead.

Bil a timtablLearning to schedule your time is crucial when it comes to being alone.

Buy a journal and make lots o notes in it. Write down your eelings, yourdreams and desires. Give yoursel some short and long-term goals. Thishelps you put a method to the madness.

You may go through a transition stage beore youre ready to adapt tothe new you, but there is support out there. In time, you will evolve, and youll ind you can be very comortable in your own skin with orwithout anyone around.

dot wo abot th what ifsInterestingly enough, there is an increasing trend toward single living

in adults o all ages. Whether youre widowed, divorced, or single, there isavailable support or you. Youll need to keep reminding yoursel that youhave the energy, enthusiasm and interest to give and to receive. While itmay not be easy, you will go on to thrive once again. Keep in mind thatGod is with you all the time. You may ask yoursel, What i Im alonethe rest o my lie? What i this pain Im eeling never goes away? What i, what i, what i?... This is very sad,and you oten see these women migrating romrelationship to relationship simply to fnd thatone man who approves o them and makes themeel special. The really sad part is that approval

I was diagnosed with severe anemia and my

hemoglobin count was very low at 9.0. I elt dizzy,

oggy and did not have the energy to make it

through the day. I was wondering, Where has my

elephant memory gone? Whats happening to me?

One day, I did an online search or new solutions and

I ound TriVitas website. I was impressed by what I

saw. I ordered two boxes oTriVita Sublingual

B-12 immediately. The product arrived just threedays ater I placed the order. It was well packed and

I was impressed with the customer service and the

ast shipping. Ater I started taking the product back

in October 2007, I noticed my energy level increased,

my sharp memory returned and the dizziness went

away. My hemoglobin count is up to 11.6 and I

expect that count will soon rise to the normal fgure

o 12 as long as I keep taking TriVita Sublingual B12.

Thanks TriVita, I love your product, and I stronglyrecommend that everyone should add Sublingual

B12 to his or her daily vitamin intake.
