KEPFOS T WSP COMPOSITION: Contains per g: Fosfomycin calcium 250 mg Tylosin tartrate 100 mg Fructose 1.6 Diphosphate Tri-sodium 180 mg DESCRIPTION: Fosfomycin (FOS) is a natural bactericidal broad-spectrum antibiotic which acts on proliferating bacteria by inhibiting cell wall and early murein/peptidoglycan synthesis. Fosfomycin acts bactericidal against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Other properties of this drug include inhibition of bacterial adhesion to epithelial cells, exopolysaccharide biofilm penetration, immunomodulatory effect, phagocytosis promotion and protection against nephrotoxicity caused by other drugs. Fosfomycin has, due to its low protein binding, a very good tissue penetration. Tylosin is a macrolide antibiotic with activity mainly against Gram-positive bacteria and cocci. In Kepfos T wsp, fosfomycin is linked to fructose. Fructose is an important source of energy for bacteria. Bacteria actively transport fructose into the cell, thereby also taking up the fosfomycin. In this way, the fosfomycin can be much more effective. INDICATIONS: Kepfos T wsp is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by Gram- positive, Gram-negative bacteria and mycoplasma in the digestive and respiratory tract in poultry and pigs. Kepfos T wsp in poultry is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by E. Coli, Salmonella spp., Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp. and in the treatment of infectious Coryza, Chronic Respiratory Disease (CRD), Avian cholera, Listeriosis, Pseudomonosis and diseases caused by fosfomycin and / or tylosin susceptible organisms. In pigs, Kepfos T wsp is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by Mycoplasma (swine enzootic pneumonia), dysentery caused by Serpulina hyodysenteriae and for the control of Porcine Proliferative Enteropathies (PPE) caused by Lawsonia intracellularis. CONTRA-INDICATIONS: Do not administer to animals with a severe impaired renal function. Do not use in layers producing eggs for human consumption. SIDE EFFECTS: Sometimes a mild diarrhoea can be seen during or after treatment. INCOMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER DRUGS: None. DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: For oral administration via drinking water. Poultry (broilers): Use amount of Kepfos T wsp as stated in table in 100 litres of drinking water during 3 - 5 days. This is equivalent to 80 mg of fosfomycin per kg bodyweight. document.docx
