Home visits to pre-school children, to help families understand the visual impairment and advise them how to help their child with visual stimulation so they can acquire the full range of early learning skills Full functional vision assessments for children in educational settings, to provide recommendations for managing the vision impairment Specialist support for visually impaired children in their educational settings Differentiated braille programmes for educationally blind children and young people Modifications to teaching and learning materials and advice on access arrangements for exams Low vision device assessments Who else do we work with? We work closely with other services and professionals including: Consultant Ophthalmologists Opticians Speech Therapists Educational Psychologists Mobility Officers Social Workers Specialist Teachers of the Deaf Staff from a local Specialist school Visual Impairment Service Service Aims The service aims to ensure equal access to education for pupils with a vision loss and endeavours to equip young people with strategies, skills and knowledge that promote independence in learning and life. What can my child really see? Will visual problems affect her learning? How can she join in activities? Will he have to learn Braille? The service for Visually Impaired Children supports children with a diagnosed vision impairment, their families, teachers and others involved with them.
