Introduction
ALBERTA APPROVED FAMILY DAY HOMES VISUAL IDENTITY GUIDELINES
About Alberta Approved Family Day Homes
Approved family day homes are one of the many child care
options available to parents in Alberta. Approved family
day homes provide care for children under the age of 12 in
an environment much like their own home. Regional Child
and Family Services Authorities contract with approved
family day home agencies or individual approved family day
home providers to ensure that children in care are healthy
and safe. Both approved family day home agencies and
providers operate according to standards established by
Alberta Children and Youth Services.
About the logo
Alberta Children and Youth Services has developed
a new logo to identify approved family day home
agencies and providers and to distinguish them from
other forms of child care.
PAGE 2
Logo
The new logo is a symbol of the peace of mind and comfort
provided to children and parents by approved family day
homes. The smiling door graphic, drawn casually in red
brush strokes and accompanied by flowers, is warm and
inviting. A small badge of approval is attached to the door.
The text is traditional and official, adding legitimacy.
The graphic portion is referred to as the icon. The text
portion is called the logotype. Together, the icon and
logotype make up the Alberta approved family day homes
logo. The icon and logotype should not be used separately.

Sizing & positioning
The logo needs space to make sure it is prominent and recognizable. As a rule of thumb, make sure the space around the logo is the same size as the icon itself. Nothing should invade the clear space around the logo.
If the logo is too small, it may be difficult to read and understand. Make sure it is clear and legible where ever it is used.
In order to size the logo without distorting it, use the scaling tool in your graphics software program. Insert the appropriate percentage to make sure the logo is scaled properly in both directions.

Working with the Government of Alberta logo
The logo was developed for use by approved family day
home agencies and providers. It was designed to integrate
with the communications materials, like websites and print
advertising, already in use. The Government of Alberta is
referenced in the logotype.
However, there may be very specific and special
circumstances where the Government of Alberta logo
is also required in communications materials. Such a
circumstance may include a banner for an event featuring
approved family day homes that has been sponsored by the
Government of Alberta. In this circumstance, the logo and
the Government of Alberta logo may be placed side by side.

These samples show how the logo might be incorporated
on the website or print advertisement for an approved
family day home agency or provider. The presence of
the logo reassures parents and families who might be
considering an approved family day homes for their child
care needs. To that end, the logo should always be placed
where it is prominent and recognizable. Each website and
print advertisement is unique so it is important to consult
the guidelines in the sections above when incorporating
the logo.
