By Car: the City of Wanneroo is easily accessible by car. Heading north from Perth CBD on the Mitchell Freeway or Wanneroo road, the actual town Centre of Wanneroo is 25km from Perth. Yanchep, in the northern part of our City is approximately 55km from Perth.
By Train: Catch the Joondalup – Clarkson line and exit at any station north of Warwick. By Bus: Various bus routes link from the CBD and from the main railway stations. From the Airport: By car, Wanneroo is an easy drive from the airport via tonkin and reid Highways.

BoatingBoat launch facilities are available from Mindarie Marina (south) and Two Rocks Marina (north).
ShipwrecksWanneroo is home to some of WA’s
renowned shipwrecks, including the
SS Alkimos 1963, the Alex T Brown
1917 and the Eglinton 1852.
NOTE: Access to some wrecks requires
a boat. Divers need to be fit and
qualified. Persons diving on these sites
do so at their own risk.
Surfing Yanchep – Just north of the Lagoon there is a small reef called “Rafts” that provides both right and left breaking waves about 150 days a year. There are some good banks to the North providing some beach breaks too.
The Spot (north of Yanchep) – A popular break with the locals, The Spot often provides long barrelling left hand waves. There is a beach break to the north that provides some fast fun for the body boarders as well.
DivingThere are a number of dive companies that operate out of Mindarie Marina or boats that can be chartered by people with an appropriate skipper’s ticket.
Discover our CoastlineOur beautiful coastline stretches for 32 kilometres from tamala Park (just south of Mindarie), to two rocks and boasts limestone cliffs, heathland and sanddunes. this is not only a delight for nature lovers but also an ideal destination for beach and water sport enthusiasts.
the more adventurous can start the day challenging the waves at the spot, in two rocks, while others may prefer observing the ocean’s marvels at Yanchep lagoon, the perfect place for snorkelling.
Whilst in this northern area of the sunset Coast, take the time to go fishing in the beautiful Yanchep lagoon. Head further north again, where you will come across two rocks, a peaceful coastal community. two rocks also boasts a marina and boat harbour and the coastline is scattered with historic shipwrecks
Visit Mindarie Marina with its high-quality cafes and restaurants, plus a sophisticated microbrewery and a great pub serving sea-fresh fish and chips.
the maritime history of this coast is littered with tales of ships coming to grief on treacherous reefs. these days, the many remaining shipwrecks have become interesting historic artefacts and gripping dive locations.

Local ProduceWanneroo is historically the ‘food bowl’ of Perth and market
gardening still remains important today. It is possible
at different times of the year to
sample fresh produce, or even
pick your own straight from the growers. Olives, mangoes
and strawberries are always a
favourite. Fine wines are also
produced in the area and are available to purchase.
Yanchep National Park Provides a true Aussie experience just
45 minutes from Perth. There’s so much
to learn about Aboriginal culture*, take
part in a cave tour or see the flora and
fauna, including kangaroos and koalas.
You can walk along one of the park’s
nine trails, enjoy a picnic or barbeque in
the natural surrounds and perhaps stay
overnight at the historic Yanchep Inn.
If you’re peckish, sample some sweet
delights at Chocolate Drops tea
rooms or eat in one of the
park’s dining facilities.

Yellagonga Regional ParkNamed in 1990 to honour Yellagonga, the
leader of the local Mooro Nyungar people
who inhabited the region at the time of
European settlement. The huge 1400
hectare Yellagonga Regional Park runs
from Hepburn Avenue in the south to
Joondalup Drive in the north.
The park offers amazing biodiversity due
to Lakes Joondalup & Goollelal, Beenyup
& Walluburnup swamps and the mature
woodland areas. Throughout the whole year
this ‘Jewel of the North’ has something
to offer everyone from bird watching,
picnicking, numerous playgrounds, BBQ’s
areas, cycling or jogging.
Crystal Cave atYanchep Park See Perth’s only tourist cave and experience an underground wonderland full of natural cave decorations. Guided tours run all year round and provide information on the cave’s history, geology, and the ecosystem that lies within. Cabaret Cave can even be hired for private events, including corporate meetings and weddings.

the diversity of landscapes, fauna and flora is amazing. The local vegetation includes species and communities that are found only in a restricted part of the south-west of Western Australia.

Lime kilns The burning of limestone was a major post-war industry for Wanneroo. Huge kilns were built and you can view some at:Cooper’s Park, Fairport Vista, Mindarie and at the end of Kiln Rd, Carabooda.

Discover our Heritage & Arts
Cockman HouseDating back to 1860 this remarkable cottage built using local materials reflects the lives of the early settlers. Having had few changes and complete with early furnishings its rural nature will delight. (Open Sundays 2pm – 5pm, not Feb)
Wanneroo has a rich and diverse heritage. like the nyoongar people the new settlers used the natural resources of the ‘lakes districts’ to sustain them and by 1872 there were 60 new families in the area.
the name ‘Wanneroo’ comes from the word ‘Wanna’, meaning digging stick used by Aboriginal women and ‘roo’ meaning ‘the place of ’.
You can visit our earliest surviving residence at Cockman House, discover some of our military history at the 10th light Horse trail (a WW11 campsite), wonder at the relics of our early lime-burning industry or visit the regional Museum for a wonderful insight into Wanneroo over the years. school programs are run at all museums including Buckingham House and the old Wanneroo school House.
there is a range of art happenings in the City including great touring exhibitions from national institutions to be enjoyed. upcoming exhibitions and opening hours can be found on the City’s website.
Did you know? in the 1800s the Wanneroo area was known as the lakes District.

Walking Trails• Wanneroo Cultural & Civic Trail – The
trail consists of 16 markers celebrating
places and events, each marking a site
of cultural and heritage value within the
townsite of Wanneroo.
• 10th Light Horse Trail – a 1.2km trail just
north of Flynn Drive on Wanneroo Road,
provides a bushland trail around the site
of the 10th Light Horse Trail, who packed
up camp in 1944.
• Yaberoo Budjarra Heritage Trail
a 28km walktrail from Lake
Joondalup through Neerabup,
to Yanchep National Park.
