What first attracted you to the wine industry? We reached a “certain age,” and my husband
wanted to go back to farming. Perhaps it was a mid-life crisis, but it’s worked out very well for us. The

1.) Check your preconceived notions about specific grapes at the door. A grape is only a grape and can
be made into a variety of styles of wine. Vineyard location, harvest decisions and winemaking
techniques can make a huge difference.
2.) Taste wines OUTSIDE of your comfort zone or normal preferences along with a few wines in your
preferred grapes and styles, but from different wineries. A tasting event is a great chance to explore,
and you don’t have to figure out what to do with the rest of the bottle if you don’t like it.
3.) Always, and especially if trying many styles, remember to start with dry, but light flavoured wines,
then move up to heavier and finally sweeter.
4.) If you start to feel tipsy, spit your wines out. This will ensure you maximize the number of wines you
can try so you get the most out of the time available. You can always go back to drinking your
