advisorycouncil meetings is nearing completionthroughout each of
the 72 counties inWisconsin. The gatherings will collect
publicopinion and offer the DNR advice andsuggestions on local deer
populations,antlerless quotas, and season options... Asrecently as
2007, 5,468 deer were shot in the
years) have reduced deer populations. InSawyer County, 40%
percent of deer tracked fora study died. To help rebuild herds 19
counties,about the northern third of the state, have nodoe hunting
in 2014. The largest "no doe" zonein 20 years. Fawn mortality was
estimated at43 percent. Populations in the Central Forestand the
Central and Southern Farm areas faredbetter. Estimated 1.14 million
deer after 2011hunting season and 1.16 million deer after
2010hunting season. Estimated 990,000 deer inJanuary 2010. Down
significantly since 2000based on legislated deer goals. Deer
huntingestimated to have $1.3 billion in economicimpact on the
state. About 650,000 deerlicenses sold annually. History of Deer
Huntingin Wisconsin Two deer in Marathon County tested positivefor
Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in 2014. Since 2008, CWD has been
detected in 35counties in deer or elk. Deer management was
reorganized alongcounty boundaries in 2014, each county isforming a
County Deer Advisory Council(CDAC) of six to eight members.

Most have been angling for musky, withfairly consistent action
