Virtues Awards Ka rawe to the following students who were recognised for displaying virtues their teams are focusing on this term. Courage and Determinaon: Michael Goldsack, Mahias Paa, Cooper Hiscox. Empathy: Alana Gleeson, Misha Young, Tana Hawley. Flexibility: Tamzyn Newland, Ryan Renton, Jackson Belliss, Emily Howells. Determinaon: Xander Laird, Liam Cox, Melanie Goosen, Adam Ding, Jacob Kennedy, Jack Reid, Ashton Baxter. Kindness: Zac Davies, Connor Ellico, Jonas Paa, Liam Penwarden, Isla McKee, Logan Plant, Sophia Wiebe, Kento Uno. Friendliness: Benjamin Law, Deepika Madhu, Micah Chiet, Wairangi Potaka-Osborne Milner-Skudder. Year 4 Overnight Camp Our Year 4 students enjoyed a fun day out and overnight stay at school recently. The camp concluded with a Polar bear swim early Saturday morning before everyone packed for home. A great me was had by all. Many thanks to all our parent helpers. Kia ora koutou WARNING! St Johns Hill School has got worms! Lots of them! But dont panic. They are not residing in the intesnes of our tamariki. These worms are compost worms who are domiciled in three old bath tubs next to the chook house. These are our worm farms which we feed daily with food scraps leſt over from our morning teas and lunches. Nutrient rich worm juice and worm castes are applied to our vege gardens. WE ARE AN ENVIROSCHOOL. The worm farms are just one of the many on going sustainable acons our students are involved in. Did you know we have photovoltaic solar panels, providing renewable energy from the sun, solar water panels warming our pool, class vege gardens, a recycling shed, class and office recycling, chooks which provide compost for the gardens, eggs for sale and cooking. We encourage, promote and model rubbish free lunch boxes as a way of minimising rubbish. We have shade houses in which nave seedlings are propagated, an orchard, a beauful nave reserve, a weather staon, a peaceful garden and food scrap bins. We have a working relaonship with Gordon Park and the Department of Conservaon as well as Bushy Park Sanctuary. We have a newly developed Predator Free NZ group called the Halo Team. Senior students parcipate in kapa haka and all classes are tutored in te reo and kanga ( maori custom and equee) which strengthens Maori children's identy while non-Maori journey towards shared cultural understandings. Energy audits are kept regularly by senior pupils with a view to exploring ways we can reduce our energy consumpon. Our school has been developing Educaon for Sustainability within our curriculum plan since before the year 2000 and we connue to do so. There is no environment out thereseparate from us. The environment is embedded in us. WARNING! St Johns Hill School has got worms! Lots of them! But don’t panic. They are not residing in the intestines of our tamariki. The Walking Wednesday School Buses have resumed operation. If you wish to be part of the programme please contact the office to register your interest. It is great to see our tamariki out pounding the pavements on their way to school in the mornings.

Room 17 Camping—’Up the Creek’

A huge thank you to our camp Mums and Dads who took us over to Mangamahu, up the Creek Rd, for 4 days of roughing it in the outdoors on Brenda and Andy Collins’ farm. It rained on Tuesday so we wore a bit of mud but happily the sun came out and warmed us for the remainder of the week.

Many wonderful memories will be with us forever while new relationships were

developed.
