Host System Requirements

Processor Requirements for Host Systems

You must install Workstation on a host system that meets certain processor requirements.

Supported Processors

The host system must have :

LAHF/SAHF supported , 1.3GHz or faster core speed , Multiprocessor systems are supported.

Memory Requirements for Host SystemsThe minimum memory required on the host system is 1GB. 2GB and above is recommended. To support Windows 7 Aero graphics in a

virtual machine, at least 3GB of host system memory is required. 1GB of memory is allocated to the guest operating system and 256MB is

allocated to graphics memory

Display Requirements for Host SystemsThe host system must have a 16-bit or 32-bit display adapter. Use the latest graphics driver recommended for the host system.

To support Windows 7 Aero graphics, the host system should have either an NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT or later

Drive Type Requirements

- Hard disk IDE and SCSI hard drives are supported.

- At least 1GB free disk space is recommended for each guest operating system

- CD-ROM and DVD drives are supported.

- ISO disk image files are supported.

Local Area Networking Requirements for Host Systems

You can use any Ethernet controller that the host operating system supports.

ALSA Requirements for Host Systems:

- The ALSA library version on the host system must be version 1.0.16 or later.

- The sound card on the host system must support ALSA. The ALSA project Web site maintains a current listing of sound cards andchipsets that support ALSA.

- The sound device on the host system must not be muted.

- The current user must have the appropriate permissions to use the sound device.

Help System RequirementsYou must have a supported Web browser installed on the host system to use the Workstation Help system

The following Web browser versions are supported.

- Internet Explorer 6 or later

- Mozilla Firefox 1.x or later

- Netscape 7.x or later

- Safari 1.x or later

- Opera 7.54u2 or later

Because Chrome does not support JavaScript on local systems, you cannot display the Workstation Help system in Chrome.

How to Install VMWare Workstation 9 on Windows 7 OS

You cannot install vmware workstation directly on Physical machine. To install VMWare workstation is required OS’s like, Windows, Linux.

Here i am explain how to install vmware workstation 9 on windows 7 OS.

Before download vmware workstation 9 from vmware official website, you need vmwareaccount.

After download is complete click on setup file.

Click On Next

Choose the setup type Click on Typical and press Next

The default path to install Workstation is C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Workstation. Leave it as same Click on Next.

Click Next and Again Next

It will ask for Shortcuts of workstation. Click Next

Final step is Ready to perform Click Continue

Now the installation is sucessfully completed. You can create VM from workstation

Configuring a New Virtual Machine

After installation, Create Virtual Machine dialog box will pop up automatically but if not, click on "new" in the top left.

1) Enter the name and operating system. In this case we're going with Linux and Ubuntu.


2) Memory size is next. Default is fine for what we're doing. 512MB is plenty. Too much/too little can be problematic.

Configuring a New Virtual Machine3) Create a virtual hard drive. This is where your files will be stored inside your VM.


4) Choose VDI unless you have other VMs


6) Choose the amount of storage space. 8GB is fine for most users. Linux will take up some of this so leave about 5GB for that.


7) There will be a quick pop up about optical disks, ignore this for now.

Installing Ubuntu on the Virtual Machine

Now that you have a Virtual Machine:1) Download the latest version of Ubuntu fromhttp://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop.

2) Open VirtualBox if you haven't already.3) Click on your newly created VM and go to "settings“


4) From here click the "storage" subcategory.5) In the storage tree, click on the disk icon that should say "empty." If it doesn't then click on it anyway.6) Click on the small disk with the down arrow to the right of the field under "attributes" on the right side of the storage window.


7) Locate the .iso you just downloaded from the Ubuntu website.


8) "Ok" the settings window to return to the main window of VirtualBox.

9) Click "Start"


From here, the VM will act just like any computer.1) Go through the installation process of Ubuntu.


It is not necessary to update if you have the latest version.


Tick Erase disk and install Ubuntu , then click continuous


Choose keyboard Layout, Then click continuous to complete installing .
