About Virtual Virginia • Virtual Virginia (VVa) is a program created by the Virginia Department of

Education to offer students online courses throughout the Commonwealth and nation.

• VVa began around 1980 because middle and high school students were unable to enroll in Advance Placement (AP) and world language courses

• In response, The Virginia Department of Education created the Virginia Satellite Education Network (VSEN), for students to successfully complete AP and world language courses

• After the creation of VSEN, the Virginia Department of Education incorporated a web-based delivery option, establishing Virtual Virginia

Hear from Other Parents

"The impact that Virtual Virginia's classes and faculty members made on my son and his college experience is one that can be measured in much more than knowledge gained and credits earned. The program encourages independent learning and thinking, skills that will be needed in college and in the workplace. On a personal level, my son continues to maintain strong ties with Virtual Virginia whose teachers have become a second family to him.“

Christine Collins,Virtual Virginia Parent

"Our daughter has blossomed as a result of her foreign language experiences. Jenny started her study of Mandarin in a Virginia school system, traveled to Shanghai as part of the National Security Language Initiative for Youth, and has for the past two years studied Mandarin through Virtual Virginia. Virtual Virginia works extremely well for Jenny. She has a close connection with her teacher. Her language skills are improving rapidly and at a pace that she can support. Virtual Virginia is a terrific program!“
