Plum Bedroom Inspiration Boards

When painting your walls a dark colour make all your accessories and lighting a sharp contrast of light to allow brightness into your space. Glass, silver, crystal add all these elements to bounce around the natural light, otherwise the darkness of the wall colour can turn your room dark and gloomy.

Purple and Grey is such a classic and elegant colour combination. Purple is a dark and intensive colour so offset it with some light. Use varying tones of grey throughout the room. Tricia has a dog who likes to hang out on her bed so light bed coverings would not be ideal for the dog hair. This picture shows the varying shades of grey you could use on your bed, dark comforter to hide the dog hair and a combo of light and dark grey pillows. Use metallic greys and shiny objects to create visual interest and varying degree of light and dark in the room.

The complimentary colour to purple is yellow, so in order to add some visual interest in your room at a few pops of yellow. Be slight though because yellow is a powerful colour and can become out of place. A few throw pillows in yellow or yellow flowers. When decorating a room in a primary or secondary colour on the colour wheel it is important to introduce its complimentary colour into the room in order to provide grounding for the eye, the eye naturally seeks out the complimentary colour to a primary or secondary colour. Dark woods tones would work against a purple backdrop but lighten it up with lots of silver and metallic accessories so that it does not make your room appear darker.

Drape your windows in a light fabric, off white would work to create a light dark contrast against your wall colour. Silk material is one of my favourite fabrics for window treatments, creates a lot of elegance and has a sheen to it that will add to the illusion of light.

Use lots of mirrors and glass to help bounce the light around your room, this will help to create the illusion of more space. When you paint your wall colours in a dark pigment it can cause the room to feel smaller, offset this with mirrors and glasses to open up the space. I love these sunburst mirrors, you can buy them in most decor stores right now big trend, but they are also easy to make (see my blog page www.mydiywithadime for instructions on how to make sunburst mirrors). Spray paint them in silver or high gloss gold for brightness.

Go to Home sense, winners, or even thrift stores to find silver, crystal etc. Lots of bright trinkets to accessorize your dresser and nightstands will help to create some glam to the room.

Look for lampshade that are light and airy, lots of beautiful lamps in home decor stores that are crystal, glass based, anything reflective again to bounce the light around the room.

Use your artwork to complement your walls; they can have some darkness to them, some moodiness, drama etc. I love vintage/European look in dark rooms, Go to a fabric store look for prints that are vintage and just simply frame them, easy art project, custom for your space and easily interchangeable
