What is a “Bump it Up Wall”?

0 A visual reference that displays leveled student work

0 Allows students to independently recognize what areas of their work need improvement

0 Used in conjunction with a rubric

0 Students become involved in the evaluation process and learn to rank assignments

0 Provides a forum to have a discussion on how to “deconstruct” an assignment

What are the Benefits of a “Bump it Up Wall”?

For Students:

0 Become invested contributors of their learning

0 Deeper understanding of assignment criteria

0 Students switch roles with the teacher

0 Marking schemes are better understood

0 Encourages self and peer assessment

0 Practice completing assignment based on each level

0 Compare their assignments to other levels to determine how to "bump it up"

For Teachers:

0 Student submitted work is at a higher level

0 Supports the teacher evaluation on the overall level achieved

Step One: Scan The Work0 Generally speaking, a “Virtual Bump it Up Wall” works best when the files are saved as a *.pdf

0 Files open on all computers quickly and easily

0 Files are then stored in the “Web Locker”, which can be found in the Advanced tab0 This is best organized by creating a subfolder

0 Note the URL of the stored *.pdf file

Step Two: Create a New Web Site “Sub Page”

0 Title a new sub page as “Virtual Bump it Up Wall”

Step Three: Edit The "Sub Page”0 Select images to represent each of the four levels in the “Virtual Bump it Up Wall”.

Step Three: Edit The "Sub Page”0 Hyperlink the chosen image to the URL of the *.pdf that you stored in the “web locker”
